A MAMMOTH MINI ADVENTURE, FIVE MINI DERIVATIVES GOING TO AUCTION

Five superb variations of the Mini, all with fascinating stories, are set to go under the hammer at Classic Car Auctions March sale held at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show.

The Mini which celebrated a significant birthday throughout 2019 continues to hold the limelight and is one of the most recognisable cars on the road. It also spawned a number of derivatives making it an extremely versatile car for its size.

Classic Car Auctions have five versions in their March sale on the 28th and 29th at the NEC in Birmingham which will certainly get the enthusiasts fired up.

Bought 58 years ago this 1962 Austin Mini Cooper MK1 has remained with its first and only owner for its entire life achieving a staggering 300,000 miles. Now in need of restoration but still in regular use, this Mini apparently goes like the clappers with an 850cc short-stroke in place over the original 997 and will be driven to the auction.

Originally presented in Almond Green with an Old English White roof, it is now in red but retains the original Dove Grey/Porcelain Green interior vinyl.

With a very desirable and valuable registration of 150 FOC and estimated at £12,000 to £15,000 this is a Mini with a maxi story.

“These are great cars and they all come with their own unique story and have wonderful characters. The 300,000 mile MK1 Cooper is staggering and has the most fascinating story,” commented Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions Manager.

“The vendor told us it was bought new for him by his mother-in-law because she didn’t like his choice of cars to drive her daughter around in!”

One of the Mini variations was the Moke, originally designed for military use and to be parachuted into action, but due to ground clearance issues, it wasn’t to be. However, it found a different audience across the world and developed a cult following as an easily maintainable recreational vehicle.

The first Mokes were produced in Birmingham at BMC’s Longbridge plant between 1964 and 1968. In later years they were produced in Australia and Portugal with production ending in 1993.

Classic Car Auctions have this UK supplied 1968 Austin Mini Moke which has been with the vendor for the last 13 years. Finished in white with 89,000 miles on the clock, this car is well presented but with age-related wear, however with a little bit of work could be made Concours. Estimated at £10,000 to £12,000 this a great car for the summer.

The Innocenti Mini Cooper was built between 1965 and 1975 with production taking place in Italy. The Export 1300 was the most popular and what made it stand out from other Minis was the black plastic grille and plastic chrome Innocenti badge and side repeaters on the front wings amongst other small details.

This 1975 Innocenti Mini Cooper Export 1300 was imported in 1982 and then re-shelled. In 2014 the current vendor purchased the car which was in great condition but needed some of the missing Innocenti details. This he did and three years ago had the car re-sprayed and re-trimmed correctly.

Estimated at £12,000 to £15,000 this is one of the last Export 1300s and is presented in great condition after a faithful restoration. It also comes with a good history file with brochures, handbooks, workshop manual and spares.

Our fourth Mini derivative is this wonderful 1962 Austin Mini Seven Pick-up. In 2004 it was rescued by the current vendor a known marque specialist and restored to the superb condition it is now presented in. In 2010 a bare metal restoration got underway, it was returned to the original Tweed Grey paintwork and Tan interior. The original engine was re-installed along with all period correct features.

In 2011 this little Pick-up was featured on the cover of the Mini World magazine, such was the detail of the restoration. Estimated at £16,000 to £20,000 this is a cracking, accurately restored Pick-up.

Our final Mini is the 25th Anniversary edition. Amazingly this 1984 Mini 25 has just 8,730 miles on the clock. The first and second owner did near equal mileage in the time they owned it. The current vendor, a marque specialist, has owned the car since 2016 and has kept in excellent condition, it scores 115 out 135 on the condition report. It has had little use on the road and when it has gone out it has been by trailer to shows.

Estimated at £6,000 to £8,000 it comes with great originality, history and a fresh MOT.

1972 Lamborghini Espada GT400 S2

Classic Car Auctions have two stunning Italian masterpieces consigned to their final auction of the year at the Warwickshire Event Centre alongside two beautifully restored British icons of the 4x4 world.

Taking place on the 7th December Classic Car Auctions will be selling two fabulously designed Italian cars from 1972 and both needing recommissioning to get them to their best and possibly beyond, the Lamborghini Espada and the Maserati Indy 4700. Both of these cars are UK supplied, so they come in right-hand drive.

The 1972 Lamborghini Espada GT400 S2 is an incredibly rare car, only 1,217 were made and of those, just 575 Series 2s were manufactured with only 58 in right-hand drive. So this UK-supplied car really is exceedingly rare. Estimated at £60,000 to £70,000 this original Espada found its way to Malaysia and has recently returned to the UK where it will be registered in time for the sale. A really interesting car with some early paperwork and a stylish red and black interior. We believe the engines run, but there is some work to do. So take the bull by the horns and with some recommissioning, this is going to be one stunning car ready to charge into the wild.

Another Italian masterpiece is the 1972 Maserati Indy 4700, a Grand Tourer styled by Vignale and in need of some TLC to get it back to where it should be. Discovered in a garage, this stalled restoration project requires finishing. The car does roll, but the 4.7-litre V8 engine with 37,000 indicated miles has not been run for some years. The bodywork, finished in Nautilus Blue, appears to be sound and there are boxes containing the remaining parts including brand new front and rear bumpers. Estimated at £30,000 to £35,000 there appears to be little to do before this Italian stunner takes to the open road again.

Now talking of charging into the wild, we couldn’t be more opposing as we come to a great British icon, the trusty Land Rover. With the launch of the new Land Rover a modern take of a classic art form dividing opinion, the original still holds fond memories for many. Some of us even learnt to drive in one across open farmland when our feet could only just touch the pedals or sitting on an adults lap and just steering and hoping. Classic Car Auctions have two 1960s Series 2As on offer, just three years apart but equally well presented after being restored.

The first one the 1966 soft top has come over from Guernsey and is now UK registered. Finished in Pastel Green this mud plugger has been fastidiously restored by and F1 engineer. The engine has been professionally rebuilt to the original specification as well as the transmission. Estimated at £18,000 to £20,000 this is a stunning Land Rover, one you really need to see and it even comes with the rare and now refurbished Smiths heater.

Our second Landy is a 1969 soft-top which like the other one has undergone a beautiful restoration from the ground up. Estimated at £14,000 to £18,000 this S2A is ready to tackle whatever winter throws at it and to ensure it is well protected the chassis has been finished with a special protective coating and Waxoyl. This is a very competitively guided 4x4xFar.

1970 Ford Capri MK1 2000 V4 GT XLR

Last weekend’s sale of 115 Everyman Classics at the Warwickshire Event Centre achieved outstanding results as two Ford Capris and a delivery mileage BMW 1M stood out as they went under the hammer at the CCA sale.

Modern classics were certainly cars to be watching as a Golf Sportline, BMW 735i, Mercedes E55 AMG, Ferrari 348 and an Audi Quattro achieved very solid results.

Classics featured very well with 1959 Isetta Bubble car, Triumph TR250, an Austin 7 Special and two MG TDs also achieving excellent results.

Gary Dunne Classic Car Auctions Manager commented: “We had a very good sale resulting in a very respectable 68% sale rate in the current market conditions. Classics did very well, but so did modern future classics with some notable standouts all helping to achieve over £1.1 million worth of sales.”

“The quality of the cars consigned was excellent and wide-ranging. From these results, modern classics are certainly proving a popular investment, but your traditional classics are still holding their own.”

Out of the 115 cars consigned there were two Ford Capris from the 1970s. Lot 741 the 1974 Mk1 RS3100 which had been superbly restored and possibly one of 50 left achieved £53,280 and the just as rare Lot 749 1970 Mk1 2000 V4 GT XLR in outstanding condition saw £27,195 as the hammer fell.

One of the most modern cars crossing the block and taking centre stage at the auction was Lot 755 the 2011 BMW 1M with delivery mileage only. Finished in a striking Valencia Orange this car had been tucked away from the elements and now having seen the light sold for £59,385.

The quality of modern classics continued with Lot 708 a 1993 VW Golf GTi Sportline which had just 26,000 miles on the clock and was in amazing condition. Sparking lots of interest it sold for a staggering £26,085. Lot 727 was also in remarkable condition and seemingly un-marked this 1985 BMW 735i with 18,000 miles sold for £17,205.

Other notable achievements were Lots 728 a 1999 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG a super impressive super-saloon selling for £17,205, Lot 724 a 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider in manual sold for £53,280. Lot 714 a very nice example of a 1988 Audi UR Quattro in Tornado Red sold for £22,866.

Among the traditional classics, there were some very unusual and well-presented offerings, Lot 709 a cheeky little 1959 BMW Isetta Bubble Car saw battle between Cyprus and Dorset eventually selling to a Cypriot museum for £12,210. Lot 739 a very nicely restored 1968 Triumph TR250 sold for £37,185, Lot 759 the little 1934 Austin 7 Special had a last-minute change to No Reserve and sped off the blocks at £12,210 still achieving its estimate. There were two 1953 MG TDs in the auction and eight lots apart both selling very well. Lot 780 the fully restored Old English White car which had been converted from left to right-hand drive sold for £24,420 and Lot 788 also fully restored but in left-hand drive sold for £22,200.

MODERN AND EVERYMAN CLASSICS AT CCA SALE IN OCTOBER 

1991 Porsche 928 GT

Classic Car Auctions forthcoming sale is offering some great modern and Everyman classics at their October sale on the 5^th October at the Warwickshire Event Centre.

Two fabulous British classics being offered are a 1969 Mini Cooper Mk2 and a 1966 Morris Minor Series V alongside two Bavarian bruisers, a cherished and rare Porsche 928 GT and a BMW Z3M.

The ultimate Porsche 928 is coming to market and this one is special. It is one of 38 right-hand drive GTs and this 1991 edition is finished in the popular colour choice of Guards Red which has been colour corrected and ceramic coated. This 5.0-litre powerhouse has had one previous owner and been with the current one since 2008.

Estimated at £25,000 to £30,000 this is a very smart Porsche which has been clearly cherished and maintained with just 120,000 miles. With a recent timing belt change and other mechanical works to be done prior to the sale it also comes with a spreadsheet to include some history, MOTs and other works. These are rare and sought after cars and will no doubt be a popular car on sale day.

 1969 Austin Mini Cooper Mk II

With Mini celebrating its 60^th birthday, this is a great year to acquire one of Britain’s most famous small cars. CCA have a lovely 1969 Austin Mini Cooper Mk2, matching numbers and sympathetically restored car. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 this is a well-prepared car featuring a new Webasto vinyl roof and refinished in its original colours of Island Blue and contrasting Snowberry White roof. This car has been with the current owner since 2010 and comes with detailed history from this point, along with a Heritage Certificate. These are very popular cars and this one will make a great purchase.

Another great British classic is the Morris Minor and what a superb example CCA have got in their sale. Offered at £5,000 to £7,000 this final version 1966 series V looks superb in Birch Grey with a red interior and with 37,000 miles on the clock. This 1098cc car has had just three former keepers and comes with old MOTs dating back to 2000 and will be supplied with a fresh one prior to sale. A great entry-level classic, one not to be missed.

Introduced in 1998 the BMW Z3M Roadster took BMWs little two-seater to a new level with production only running until 2002. CCA have a great early version, finished in Estoril Blue with blue and black Nappa leather interior this 3.2-litre S50 engine car comes with just under 97,000 miles on the clock and an MOT. Sensibly guided at £8,000 to £10,000 this is a great opportunity into M-Sport ownership.

 1966 Morris Minor Series V

 1974 Ford Capri Mk1 RS3100

After the success of last months auction CCA are now gearing up for their next sale at the Warwickshire Event Centre on the 3rd October.

Early entries include a very rare 1970 Ford Capri Mk1 and a 1990 Lancia Delta Integrale and a 1988 Audi UR Quattro. But what do all these cars have in common? They all had successful competition siblings.

The Ford Capri is thought to be very special with possibly only 50 of these RS3100 left and originally built for homologation into European Touring Car Racing. This 1974 example is in what could be classified as show quality condition and suitable for any Concours where it has the potential to win. In the 1990s it underwent restoration with photographic evidence to show this and is finished in Modena Green with gold detailing around the power bulge and rear panel. With 48,000 warranted miles, loads of history including magazine articles and an estimate at £50,000 to £60,000 this is one good looking classic.

Our next lot is a Lancia Delta Integrale. Famous for its success in international rallying, Lancia won six constructor titles from 1987 to 1992 with the Delta. This original 1990 UK supplied example of the HF Integrale 8 valve, underwent a factory-approved conversion to right-hand drive, as there were only 50 right-hand drive factory cars built and none were imported to the UK. Presented in the classic Monza Red and with 56,000 miles, this Lancia had a full body-off restoration in 2008. It also comes with lots of documentation and history with marques specialists. At £10,000 to £12,000 it would be a very welcome addition to your garage.

1990 Lancia Delta HF Integrale 8v

Audi is famed for its Quattro, four-wheel-drive systems and achieved huge success with their cars in international rallying with some of the most famous drivers. The desire for the road-going versions has always been strong and CCA have a very fine 1988 UR Quattro 10 valve. This original UK specification car has clearly well cared for its five former owners who have covered 97,000 miles. Finished in Tornado Red and with the digital dashboard, this Audi has had £4,000 spent on it including the refurbishing of the original Ronal wheels. A fabulous looking car, estimated at £20,000 to £25,000, will certainly get enthusiasts fired up.

1988 Audi UR Quattro (WR-10v)

FULL HOUSE, ENTHUSIASTIC BIDDING AND GREAT RESULTS FOR CCA AUCTION

The Classic Car Auction on the 3rd August was a resounding success with modern classics coming to the fore and achieving excellent results.

A full house of cars and a healthy crowd of bidders helped CCA to achieve over £1.9 million in sales and a healthy sale rate of 60% cars sold.

The collection of carefully selected high-performance Japanese cars attracted lots of interest leading up to sale day and didn’t disappoint when it mattered. The Honda Integra was first off the block achieving £12,432 followed by Lot 562, the Honda NSX at £53,280, then came the first of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 2 Makkinen Editions Lot 604 at £27,750 with the other at £24,975. It didn’t stop there, the Subaru Impreza P1 achieved £22,755 and the WRX STi £15,762. Lot 619 the Mazda RX-7 came in at £41,625, but the big gun was the 2000 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec which after some fabulous and at the start furious bidding brought the hammer down at £62,715.

From the same collector of the Japanese cars, his astute knowledge paid off again with European cars, Lot 561 the Renault Clio Sport V6 sold for £34,410 and a 2005 BMW M5 Saloon selling for £26,085 and a little Peugeot 205 Rallye gathering £16,650.

Talking of Peugeots, there were a number of these hot hatches in the sale and they were right little crackers too. Lot 505, a 1988 1.9 GTi sold for £8,889, Lot 626 sold for £8,769, the 309 1.9 GTi sold for £12,432 and not to be left behind a 1.6 GTi sold for £9,102. With such a fantastic offering there would always be one for somebody.

Mercedes also proved a popular marque, with convertibles selling well as were some very popular classic designs from the 1970s and 80s. A 2004 SL600 sold for £36,075 and a 1984 230 CE which attracted some very strong bidding sold for £12,432. Lot 682, a 1970 450 SLC proved a popular choice with some fantastic bidding achieving £16,650.

Lot 620, a faithful reproduction of the Range Rover from the James Bond film Octopussy had lots of interest and for the new buyer would present plenty of marketing opportunities and a chance to recoup his investment at £57,720.

With a number of Minis on offer, Cilla Black’s car was always going to attract bidders hoping to own a part of British entertainment. With some lively bidding, it was no surprise the car fetched £20,535.

One of the largest rounds of applause went to the new owner of Lot 602, the 1972 Rover 3.5 Coupe P5B. Again, with lots of interest in this car, it sold for £39,405.

Classic Car Auctions sale on the 3rd August is set to be the biggest sale ever, with 185 cars consigned covering early classics to modern supercars further underlining CCAs moto of Everyman Classics.

The Warwickshire Event Centre will be again hosting the August sale and headlining will be a 2007 Aston Martin Vanquish S estimated at £100,000 to £120,000.

The Aston Martin Vanquish S is the highest value lot and also the highest value car ever consigned to a CCA auction, scoring very impressively on the CCA condition report. With just over 15,000 miles this is a stunning car presented in Morning Frost White with Chancellor Red leather and Black Cherry carpeting. One of the best- designed cars by the design master Ian Callum and attractively guided to sell.

Over the years there have been some very high-powered cars produced by Japanese manufacturers and further boosted by the Fast and Furious films inspiring many to further modify these rocketships. CCA have a superb unmodified 1997 Toyota Supra car with just over 64,000 miles, which is possibly one of the best available and estimated at £30,000 to £35,000.

The Volkswagen Beetle was made famous in the Herbie films and was launched as the people’s car. In 2003 production ceased after 65 years as demand dropped and CCA have one of the very last cars produced in Mexico with just 435 miles on the clock. A left-hand-drive model and just two owners this car has formed part of a private collection since 2012. Estimated at £12,500 to £15,000 but being offered at No Reserve, this car is in wonderful condition with its original owner’s manual fresh service and MOT.

Another wonderful car, again being offered at No Reserve but estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 is this 1974 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC. Coming from a private collection since 2011 and just three owners from new, this is a superb example of a classic coupe. Coming with a full history, book pack and a smidge over 27,000 miles this car is in stunning condition.

Among the lots are two notable classics, a 1954 Citroen Traction Avant, a car that was ahead of its time setting the standard for modern-day motoring. Built in Paris, this left-hand-drive car has had a full independent inspection by a Citroen specialist, comes with a good history file, MOT and estimated at £12,000 to £15,000.

The second of our notable classics and one with a wonderful story is this 1938 Austin Heavy 12/4 Pick Up estimated at £20,000 to £25,000. Originally created as one of just six and all almost unique as they were built using spare parts and made by the apprentices at Longbridge. This pick up has been restored by its former keeper over a number of years and is now a real piece of automotive history making it a rare opportunity to acquire a vehicle that would be seen on film sets such as Downton Abbey.

Viewing takes place on Friday 2nd August from 10am to 6pm with the auction getting underway on Saturday the 3rd from 10.30am.
