AN EXCELLENT CATALOGUE OF HIGH-QUALITY EVERYMAN CLASSICS ACHIEVE SUPERB RESULTS AT CCA SALE

AN EXCELLENT CATALOGUE OF HIGH-QUALITY EVERYMAN CLASSICS ACHIEVE SUPERB RESULTS AT CCA SALE
1970 Ford Capri MK1 2000 V4 GT XLR

Last weekend’s sale of 115 Everyman Classics at the Warwickshire Event Centre achieved outstanding results as two Ford Capris and a delivery mileage BMW 1M stood out as they went under the hammer at the CCA sale.
Modern classics were certainly cars to be watching as a Golf Sportline, BMW 735i, Mercedes E55 AMG, Ferrari 348 and an Audi Quattro achieved very solid results.
Classics featured very well with 1959 Isetta Bubble car, Triumph TR250, an Austin 7 Special and two MG TDs also achieving excellent results.
Gary Dunne Classic Car Auctions Manager commented: “We had a very good sale resulting in a very respectable 68% sale rate in the current market conditions. Classics did very well, but so did modern future classics with some notable standouts all helping to achieve over £1.1 million worth of sales.”
“The quality of the cars consigned was excellent and wide-ranging. From these results, modern classics are certainly proving a popular investment, but your traditional classics are still holding their own.”
Out of the 115 cars consigned there were two Ford Capris from the 1970s. Lot 741 the 1974 Mk1 RS3100 which had been superbly restored and possibly one of 50 left achieved £53,280 and the just as rare Lot 749 1970 Mk1 2000 V4 GT XLR in outstanding condition saw £27,195 as the hammer fell.
One of the most modern cars crossing the block and taking centre stage at the auction was Lot 755 the 2011 BMW 1M with delivery mileage only. Finished in a striking Valencia Orange this car had been tucked away from the elements and now having seen the light sold for £59,385.
The quality of modern classics continued with Lot 708 a 1993 VW Golf GTi Sportline which had just 26,000 miles on the clock and was in amazing condition. Sparking lots of interest it sold for a staggering £26,085. Lot 727 was also in remarkable condition and seemingly un-marked this 1985 BMW 735i with 18,000 miles sold for £17,205.
Other notable achievements were Lots 728 a 1999 Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG a super impressive super-saloon selling for £17,205, Lot 724 a 1994 Ferrari 348 Spider in manual sold for £53,280. Lot 714 a very nice example of a 1988 Audi UR Quattro in Tornado Red sold for £22,866.
Among the traditional classics, there were some very unusual and well-presented offerings, Lot 709 a cheeky little 1959 BMW Isetta Bubble Car saw battle between Cyprus and Dorset eventually selling to a Cypriot museum for £12,210. Lot 739 a very nicely restored 1968 Triumph TR250 sold for £37,185, Lot 759 the little 1934 Austin 7 Special had a last-minute change to No Reserve and sped off the blocks at £12,210 still achieving its estimate. There were two 1953 MG TDs in the auction and eight lots apart both selling very well. Lot 780 the fully restored Old English White car which had been converted from left to right-hand drive sold for £24,420 and Lot 788 also fully restored but in left-hand drive sold for £22,200.
Gary Dunne continued: “Some very pleasing results, a testament to the quality of the catalogue and these highlighted cars are just some sold within their estimated price range. A full list can be found on our website.”
“Our next sale is on the 7th December at the Warwickshire Event Centre, so we look forward to our next catalogue of consignments over the coming weeks.”

SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS GATHERING SPEED FOR NEC AUCTION WITH HIGH-PERFORMANCE SUPERCARS

SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS GATHERING SPEED FOR NEC AUCTION WITH HIGH-PERFORMANCE SUPERCARS
1993 Jaguar XJ220
The Silverstone Auctions sale at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show is looking set to be one of the best auctions with some significant high-performance modern classics and supercars being offered.
From Jaguar the ultimate of big cats, the XJ220, from Aston Martin a super rare factory-built Virage Volante Widebody, from Noble the M600 Carbon Sport and fighting to keep up is a rare low mileage BMW Z3 M Coupe with its own special weapon under the bonnet.
The Jaguar XJ220 was announced in the late 1980s just before the recession hit in the early 1990s. It was not good timing for Jaguar, as the first of its high performance and eagerly awaited supercar was due to arrive to owners who had been on a waiting list for some years. It was also the fastest production car in the world after setting 212.3 mph at the Nardo test track in Italy.
With a change in the original specification along with the financial collapse of the markets only 275 of these cars were eventually produced, making it at the time one of the most expensive cars in the world. But they are still one of the most admired and extremely desirable for any collector.
This 1993 UK-supplied right-hand drive XJ220 has a very special history of just two owners and incredibly low mileage of just 2,000 miles. It was delivered new to Sir John Madjeski who was the founder of the magazine Thames Valley Trader which became Auto Trader and was Chairman of Reading FC. Our vendor purchased the car from him in 2010 and formed part of his collection. Finished in Spa Silver with a Charcol interior this car has had
£28,000 spent including the replacement of the fuel cell and other recommended work with XJ220 specialists Don Law. Estimated at £350,000 to £400,000 this is a superb opportunity to acquire of the most significant, low mileage and low ownership supercars of its time.
Last week we announced four superb classic Aston Martins and now to add to the pack we have one of the 26 factory-built Virage Volante Widebody from 1994. This 6.3-litre V8 car certainly looked the part with the flared wheel arches and larger wheels creating demand for a kit for those who had the standard version. The stand-out fact of this car is that it is the third Widebody produce of the 26 to full specification for registration in the UK. Presented in Buckingham Green with a black leather interior, this is one stunning looking car with an estimate of
£100,000 to £120,000 and just under 11,000 miles with a substantial service history. The Original Bill of Sale shows the total price of this car new was £195,236, so this is a fabulous opportunity to acquire one of these 26 factory-built cars.
Noble Automotive was established in 1999 to build high-speed sports cars and in 2010 they started to produce the M600 aimed to take on the established brands and enter hypercar territory. This 2013 UK-supplied right- hand drive car is the Carbon Sport edition with a Yamaha sourced 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. Carbon Sport is the second car in the range of hand-built sports cars and this version is estimated at £150,000 to £170,000. Finished in polished Carbon with red detailing, 11,500 miles from just two owners and a full Noble works service history, this is a great looking 225mph supercar.
Our final car in this release isn’t quite in the territory of our high-performance supercars but none the less it is equally rare and just as potent in its own circle of competition. It has also been part of a private collection of a discerning collector who is also offering other cars in this auction, including the Aston Martin mentioned in this release. This 2003 BMW Z3M Coupe is fitted with the S54 engine from the BMW M3. A clearly loved car as the first owner sold it to his brother who then sold it back to him, so he must have missed it! Details of the car’s life can be found in the history file and its recent service last month. With just 11,282 miles this well-specified Z3M in Titan Silver with a black leather interior is a very sought-after car and at £40,000 to £45,000 can you afford to let this one slip by.
Harry Whale Silverstone Auctions Auction Manager commented: “The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor show at the NEC is a great auction for us, we always get some great cars consigned. These latest cars are superb examples of current and future classics.”
“We have a number of extremely notable cars from a private collection, two of which are in this release, but all
are of the highest quality.”
Silverstone Auctions are accepting cars for their Classic Motor Show auction on the 9th and 10th November and can be contacted on 01926 691141 or email enquiries@silverstoneauctions.com and would be happy to talk with you and help you through the process of consigning your car, closing date is the 15th October.
On each day, the automobilia and lifestyle auctions start at 11am and the car auction starts at 2pm. (Remembrance Sunday 10th November, the automobilia auction will begin at 11.05am)

A FABULOUS SELECTION OF COMPETITION CARS ELIGIBLE FOR HIGH QUALITY AND PRESTIGIOUS EVENTS ARE COMING TO AUCTION

A FABULOUS SELECTION OF COMPETITION CARS ELIGIBLE FOR HIGH QUALITY AND PRESTIGIOUS EVENTS ARE COMING TO AUCTION
A fabulous selection of race cars are heading to auction next week at the prestigious Silverstone Classic where cars eligible for Goodwood, Masters Series, Historic Touring Cars, Spa Historic and other classic racing series will be offered.
One of the star lots will be the iconic Kaliber liveried Ford Sierra Group A touring car. Estimated at £150,000 to £180,000 this is one of two the legendary cars built by Andy Rouse for the 1988 British Touring Car Championship and predominately used by the well-known motorsport marketing guru and ex-Formula One driver Guy Edwards. Whilst one of the cars headed off to Peter Brock after the season finished this car went Adrian Fu and was competed at Macau and the Asian Pacific Series. In 1992 it then competed at Bathurst in the James Hardie race before it was displayed in the museum. In 1993 the current vendor purchased the car and continued to race it in New Zealand after a visit to Peter Brock for some re-engineering. The car continued to win races and was eventually retired at the end of 1997 where it remained in his ownership and in late 2016 early 2017 it was decided to restore the car to its original livery. This is now one totally and the utterly amazing touring car not only prepared by Andy Rouse but also by Pete Brock, two of the biggest names in touring cars. What’s more, it also comes with a basic spares package and an option of a complete inventory to support a race effort lasting many seasons.
Lionel Abbott of Silverstone Auction commented: “This is a very special car, well known to many in an era when these RS500s were all-conquering. Our vendor has owned this car for many years and it is now presented in a wonderful condition for the next owner to either go racing or to include in their collection.”
If you are thinking of going racing in the World Sportscar Masters, this next car would be a great way to get involved and be competitive straight away. This 1972 Lola T 290estimated at £110,000 to £125,000 once took part in the 1974 Targa Florio and more recently competed at the 2011 Silverstone Classic in the hands of the respected engine builder David Gathercole. Purchased in 1988 by a Swede and taken back to Italy until 1995 it was then purchased by Mr Jim Jaqua who exported it to America and had it prepared by a well-known US preparer. It was later bought through Simon Hadfield, well known historic racer by the current vendor in 2007 and now with full FIA HTP papers is looking for a new home and to go racing again.
With a number of Ferraris in the sale, this 430 GT3 which in 2008 and 2009 was raced by Hector Lester and the late Allan Simonsen is a very special car. In their hands, it achieved one win, three pole positions and four fastest laps. Now restored by Prosport in 2015 and used for track days by the current vendor, prepared by RnR, this Ferrari GT3 comes with spares and interesting provenance. Estimated at £100,000 to £120,000 this is a great opportunity for someone to either continue using it on track days or to go racing once again.
For something a little less raucous yet still bundles of fun, this 1973 Triumph Dolomite Sprint is very suitable for events like Goodwood and Historic Touring Car Cup meetings. Believed to have last been raced in 1981 and still wearing its distinctive Mach 3 livery but under the bonnet, there are signs of its original Butch Racing Team livery from the 1974 and 1975 Spa 24 hours race. This car has a great history, has been professionally stored in dehumidified storage for the last two years and is now ready to be rebuilt to Group 1 specification in order to gain FIA papers to go racing again. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 this is a wonderful Dolomite with a BMIHT certificate and a spare set of wheels and tyres.
And for historic racers wishing to go to Goodwood or to compete in the Masters Series, Historic Touring cars or similar this rare 1965 Studebaker Lark Daytona 500 estimated at £65,000 to £80,000 and excitingly offered at No Reserve is a fantastic opportunity. This a highly developed, expertly prepared and extremely competitive car. It comes with a host of spares including wheels, tyres, differentials, body panels and further assorted parts. There is also highly likely to be an invitation from Goodwood when their period for racing is 1960s saloons.
With so many cars and competition cars in the forthcoming sale, one cannot forget that another of the star cars is the Lotus Cortina prepared by Alan Mann Racing for Sir John Whitmore. It dominated the 1965 season, winning eight out of the nine rounds. With links to being a Works car and also being shared with Jack Sears and Sir John Whitmore for an assault on the Nurburgring 6 hour race, which they won overall and set a new lap record, being used by Ford for a promotional tour, this is one of the most historic and important race cars to come on the market.
Sir John owned the car from 1967 until 1995, residing in the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu from 1972 to 1978 and then with Jack Sears on his farm in Norfolk. It was then purchased by an American enthusiast who continued to preserve the history and in 2013 the Ford Lotus Cortina returned to the UK to be sold at auction having just covered 1,000 miles whilst in the care of the previous owner. The current vendor, who is a family friend of the Manns, is now offering the car for sale at £190,000 to £220,000 with just 11,464 miles, albeit mainly race miles.
Harry Whale auction manager for Silverstone Auctions commented: “We have several fabulous lots of competition cars which are suitable for all budgets and eligible for a variety of high-quality historic events. We are also delighted to be offering such legendary cars as the Kaliber Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and Sir John Whitmore’s Lotus Cortina.”
“The Silverstone Classic sale is our most prestigious sale at one of the UK’s largest historic motorsport events at the legendary Silverstone Circuit and we are very real looking forward to the sale over the weekend of the 26th to 28th July.”
The Silverstone Classic Auction takes place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July 2019 offering an exclusive selection of classic cars, sports cars and supercars and automobilia. The lots can be previewed on the 26th of July from 09.00 to 18.00.
