JAGUAR RESTORATION PROJECTS TO GO UNDER THE HAMMER AT SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS BRITISH MARQUES SALE

JAGUAR RESTORATION PROJECTS TO GO UNDER THE HAMMER AT SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS BRITISH MARQUES SALE

A number of Jaguar restoration projects are set to be auctioned at the British Marques sale in association with the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club at Heythrop Park on the 11th May.
E-types, XK150s and XK120s in varying conditions are being offered to new homes and these cars come with some wonderful history.
The 1966 Series 1 FHC 2+2 E-type is quite incredible as it has had just one owner from September 1967. Cherished and used up to 1980 this E-type then spent the remaining 38 years in a garage prior to coming out for auction. In need of some restoration, this matching numbers example is supplied with a fantastic history folder, a Heritage Trust Certificate, plus factory manuals, original buff logbook and purchase invoice. A great opportunity, estimated at £30,000 to £35,000.
A matching numbers 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Roadster has surfaced after returning from Hong Kong where it was delivered. The former custodian of the car for 36 years, had it dismantled and shipped back to the UK and put in dry storage. It was subsequently then sold on to the current vendor, who planned to restore the car, but due to more pressing projects, is now offering the car for sale. All parts are documented with an impressive inventory and an unwarranted 22,631 miles which could well be correct. This right-hand drive car would make an exciting project estimated at £50,000 to £70,000.
There are very few Jaguar XK150 ‘S’ available, this is one of 86 coupes in right-hand drive with a manual gearbox, overdrive and a 3.8 litre engine. With matching numbers and in need of returning the car to its former glory having been in storage since 1975, this is a wonderful opportunity to restore this highly original Jaguar to the road. Estimated at £45,000 to £55,000 it comes with a Heritage Certificate and it last valid tax disc, December 1975, still on the windscreen.
In 1948 Jaguar launched the XK120 at the Earls Court Motor Show with 194 right-hand drive fixed head coupes being made. This particular car is #111 and presented in British Racing Green, we understand that only 24 were made in this colour, making this a very rare colour choice. This matching numbers car was discovered in Denmark by the vendor and recently returned to the UK to be restored. Estimated at £35,000 to £45,000 this is probably one of the last unrestored examples left.
Arwel Richards, Auction Manager for the Heythrop sale commented: "Jaguars are always a popular choice of car and in our British Marques sale we have quite a choice including these restoration projects.”
“The XK120 is of significant interest, bearing in mind in could be one of the last unrestored examples.
“We are looking forward to a great day of sales, as we have the Heythrop Classic Car Sale first, followed by the British Marques Sale in association with the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club later on the same day.”
The Heythrop and British Marques sale is a one day sale with viewing of the lots on Friday 10th May from 09:00 until 17:00 and on the morning of Saturday 11th May 2019.
The auction will take place on the 11th May starting with the Automobilia at 10:30 followed by the Heythrop Classic Car sale at 12:30 and finally the British Marques at 14:00

COMPLETELY RESTORED VINCENT BLACK SHADOW SERIES C TO GET PULSES RACING AT BRITISH MARQUES SALE

COMPLETELY RESTORED VINCENT BLACK SHADOW SERIES C TO GET PULSES RACING AT BRITISH MARQUES SALE
1951 Vincent Black Shadow Series C

A rare, valuable and stunning Vincent Black Shadow Series C is being offered for sale at Silverstone Auctions’ British Marques sale at Heythrop Park on the 11th May.
In superb condition and beautifully restored by Marque Guru, Andrew Kenningley of Southport using original parts, this is a legend of the motorcycle world.
The Heythrop Classic Car sale, which takes place earlier in the day, has a 2007 KTM 990 EFI Adventure offered from the classic car and bike collection of Jay Kay.
Making its public debut at the 1948 Earls Court Motorcycle Show, the Vincent Black Shadow went on to become a legend in its own lifetime, fuelling the demand among discerning collectors for fine examples of the marque, such as this one being offered in the Silverstone Auctions sale.
Amongst knowledgeable Vincent enthusiasts, the name of Andrew Kenningley from Southport is held in reverence. It was he who was responsible for the restoration of the 1949 Vincent Black Shadow Series 'C' that achieved the remarkable sum of £119,100 (inc. premium) at a major auction around 18 months ago.
Pleasingly Andrew was also responsible for, and indeed was the former keeper of, this 1951 Black Shadow we are privileged to be offering for sale.
The National Database of Classic Vehicles has confirmed that this Black Shadow dates from 1951. The Certificate of Authenticity from Vincent Motorcycles Ltd clarifies that frame number RC9055B has been fitted with a 1949 HRD 998cc engine, which is now to full Black Shadow specification and after speaking to Andrew he confirmed that it would be capable of 130mph if you are brave enough. In the period the Vincent Black Shadow was the fastest road bike, originally topping out at a remarkable 125mph.
There is also a Vincent Motorcycles 'repair order card' showing that the motorcycle was rebuilt to a 'show standard' using all original panels. 512 hours were logged on the restoration and the work was completed in 2016. Every aspect of this Vincent’s return to the top level has come under the scrutiny of Andrew and his brother and the results speak for themselves.
Our vendor purchased the completely restored motorcycle in 2016 and we believe it has remained in his lounge ever since. He starts it occasionally, but it has never been on the road. Restored to a show winning standard with zero miles since and with an estimate of £55,000 to £65,000, this is a 'Best-of-Breed' Black Shadow.
If you are after something more modern, a 2007 KTM 990 EFI Adventure is being offered in the Heythrop Sale from rock legend Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, a keen classic and supercar collector.
The bike has 1,000 miles from new and comes with a history file and a KTM service. Having been in Jay Kay’s collection for a few years, he is now offering the bike with no reserve.
Arwel Richards, Auction Manager for the Heythrop sale commented "This is one fantastic motorcycle and one that has created a lot of interest. We are delighted to be offering such an important motorcycle and very much look forward to seeing the bidding in our British Marques sale.”
“We are also delighted to be offering the KTM motorcycle from Jay Kay. In fact, we now have two lots from his collection and are honoured to be entrusted with selling two of his prized possessions.”

Extensively used for touring and trips to the Continent, the car has been in the same ownership for 19 years. The 1087cc Twin Cam engine was subjected to a recent rebuild and comes with a partial history. Estimated at £12,000 to £15,000 a great little car for the summer.

In 2014 the car underwent a body off restoration and repaint which has been comprehensively documented and included in its extensive history file. “The MG Magnette has a lovely story to it and I am sure will be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection. The Riley Nine is also an intriguing car with the body having been crafted by its current owner.”

FINE EUROPEAN CLASSICS OFFERED IN HEYTHROP AUCTION ON THE 11th MAY

FINE EUROPEAN CLASSICS OFFERED IN HEYTHROP AUCTION ON THE 11th MAY
1975 BMW 3.0 CSi (E9) Coupe

Stunning and rare European Classics are being offered at the Silverstone Auction on the 11th May at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire.
A pair of superb BMW CSi, a trio of the mid-1960s and early 1970s Mercedes, a very rare early 2001 Porsche 911 GT2 Clubsport and a splendid 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello are just some of the exotic that will be looking for new homes.
The first of the two BMWs is the 1975 3.0 CSi (E9) Coupe number 43 of 207 right-hand drive cars built during the final two years of production. The current vendor had the car restored by Classic Legends with a full mechanical overhaul and a bare metal respray in Turkish Blue and a retrimmed and restored interior. The final bill was a little over £22,000. This is now a superb example and very sensibly guided at £40,000 to £45,000 and may well turn out to be a wise investment.
Our second BMW 3.0 CSi is a left-hand drive version first registered in 1973 and delivered to a Berlin dealership. Later in its lifetime, it underwent a respray in its original colour, Atlantic Blue and some light restoration before it became part of a private collection until now where it is being offered for sale with just under 84,000km on the clock. A timeless classic estimated at £40,000 to £46,000.
The Mercedes of the 60s and 70s had such a classic appearance and the first of our trio is the 1964 220 SEb fixed head Coupe. The UK supplied a car in September 1964 and currently with its sixth owner, was subjected to a comprehensive restoration between 2009 and 2011 and resprayed in its original colour scheme of Burgundy with a contrasting black roof. The current vendor has owned the car since 2013 forming part of his small collection of classic cars and now offered at £27,000 to £30,000.
The second of our Mercedes is the 1965 600 SWB originally delivered new to Australia. It was first registered in the UK in 2008 to the first of its two UK registered keepers. This car has been meticulously maintained with over £30,000 of bills, impeccable maintenance records and a recent service from model specialist Wolfgang Wills of Germany. Believed to be 1 of only 273 right-hand drive cars produced, this is an exquisite car and offered by television actor and Mercedes enthusiast Gary Mavers at £75,000 to £85,000. This is fast becoming a collectable classic.
The third of our Mercedes is the 1971 280SE 3.5 V8 Coupe presented in Silver with Black leather interior, formerly owned by television actor and Mercedes enthusiast Gary Mavers who carried out some restoration work. Further work was carried out in 2017 with the car now in excellent condition and just over 46,500 miles this is a discreet and powerful coupe estimated at £60,000 to £70,000.
In 2001 Porsche launched their most extreme version of the 911 (996), the GT2, with only 129 coming to the UK and of those just 17 were Clubsports. This is one super rare 2001 car aimed for both the racetrack and for the road. It comes with an impressive history file detailing all the options chosen for the car and its previous owners. The car has completed just 1,000 miles in the last three years with a total of 56,738 miles during its lifetime. This car is so special and now offered by the current vendor from his private collection of special cars at £90,000 to £110,00.
Of the Ferraris offered in the sale, this 1998 550 Maranello is a fine example of a V12 European Grand Tourer. Supplied new to a director of Newcastle United Football Club in August 1998, this car has clearly been well cared for over the years, as it comes with a complete service record and wealth of invoices from main agents and marque specialists. This is a lovely example of the last of these hand-built Ferraris and offered at £90,000 to £100,000 an opportunity not to be missed.
Arwel Richards, Auction Manager for the Heythrop sale commented: "This is a fabulous selection of some of the spectacular cars being offered at our forthcoming sale on the 11th May.”
“This is the first time we have held an auction at the stunning Heythrop house, a glorious location to display these fine cars at their best.”
“Alongside these European exotica, we also have a large selection of British cars in our marque specific sale later in the day.”

RM SOTHEBY’S ACHIEVES MORE THAN €18.7 MILLION AT INAUGURAL GERMAN SALE AT TECHNO CLASSICA ESSEN

RM SOTHEBY’S ACHIEVES MORE THAN €18.7 MILLION
AT INAUGURAL GERMAN SALE AT TECHNO CLASSICA ESSEN
MERCEDES-BENZ 540 K LEADS TWO-DAY AUCTION AT €2.25 MILLION
LANCIA RALLY GREATS AND YOUNGTIMER COLLECTION COMMAND RECORD PRICES
  • RM Sotheby’s totals €18.7 million in sales with 86 per cent of all lots sold at inaugural Essen, Germany auction
  • Handsome 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Cabriolet A by Sindelfingen tops the sales list at €2.255.000
  • A trio of Lancia rally greats and cars from the Youngtimer Collection draw exceptional interest and record prices
  • Complete results from Essen now available at rmsothebys.com
  • RM Sotheby’s continues auction calendar with Guyton Collection, 4-5 May, and Villa Erba, 25 May

ESSEN, Germany (12 April 2019) – Today at Messe Essen during the renowned Techno Classica Essen fair, RM Sotheby’s wrapped up the company’s first-ever German auction, reaching total sales of €18.7 million with 86 per cent of all 229 lots on offer finding new homes. The two-day sale represents one of the most successful and significant collector car auctions ever held in Germany in terms of both total value and number of cars sold. The auction took place in a packed room on both days and drew bidders from 46 countries, with more than 40 per cent of participants being first-time RM Sotheby’s clientele.
The Thursday session was led by the top result of the entire sale when a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Cabriolet A offered from a Private Swiss Collection, achieved €2.255.000 to fall squarely within its pre-sale estimate. Featuring outstandingly handsome coachwork by Sindelfingen, the supercharged 540 K was presented in Essen having undergone a high-quality restoration and retaining its original chassis, engine, gearbox and bodywork.

Stealing the spotlight during the Friday sale session was a trio of legendary Lancia rally greats, which sold one after the other at Messe Essen, each exceeding pre-sale high estimates. The remarkably well-preserved, Azzurro-painted 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale was first up. Offered from just three owners and showing a mere 11,800km from new, the Stratos surpassed high estimate to a final €545.000 (est. €480/520k). The 1982 Lancia 037 Rally Stradale came under the gavel next. Another exceptionally original car and surely one of the lowest mileage examples in existence with just 3,500km from new, the 037 soared to a final €770.000, nearly doubling its high estimate (est. €350/400k). Finally, a 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, a very original, 2,200km-example of Lancia’s iconic Group B homologation Special, shattered its pre-sale estimate of €450.000 - €550.000 to achieve a final €1.040.000 to applause from the Essen crowd. Both the 037 Rally Stradale and Delta S4 Stradale achieved world-record prices by a significant margin with RM Sotheby’s, over any examples previously sold.

Another 85 modern and emerging collectables from the much-buzzed-about Youngtimer Collection also starred at RM Sotheby’s Essen sale, with results demonstrating an additional strong interest in this segment further to what was witnessed in Paris, Amelia Island, and Fort Lauderdale. On Thursday, a highly desirable 1990 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG 6.0 ‘Wide-Body’ surpassed its pre-sale estimate to bring a final €149,500. Increasingly popular with collectors, a 1992 Land Rover Range Rover with only 24,000 on the clock, doubled its low estimate bringing €40,250. Continuing the trend witnessed in Amelia Island and Fort Lauderdale, a highly original 1992 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo from the Youngtimer Collection sold for a final €32,200 to eclipse its high estimate. The bidding competition continued Friday, when perhaps the most highly anticipated lot of the Collection, a 1979 Mercedes-Benz 500 TE AMG, saw more than ten bidders raising their paddles for the pre-merger wagon, which eventually exceeded all expectations and made an astonishing €143.750, more than doubling pre-sale estimate of 60/70k and establishing a world record price for the model. Similarly, a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC AMG 5.4 ‘Wide-Body’ also ignited a bidding battle, bringing a final €161.000, and far exceeding pre-sale expectations and establishing a new world record.

We are thrilled with the success of our first ever auction in Germany and feel privileged to have been a part of Techno Classica Essen.  Further, we are thankful for the warm welcome the RM Sotheby’s team received from the German collector car community,” said Kenneth Ahn, President, RM Sotheby’s, following the sale. “This was the most successful collector car sale Germany has seen in some time, and we consider Germany to be an important part of our growth strategy in Europe given the size of its economy, significant wealth, and the number of active car collectors. Our inaugural Essen auction has been a noteworthy event for us as it has not only extended the RM Sotheby’s brand in continental Europe but has also extended the RM Sotheby’s experience to collectors at a wider variety of price points in Europe. We look forward to returning next year and to expanding business with German collectors.”
Maarten ten Holder, Head of Europe, RM Sotheby’s adds: “The last two days in Essen have proven that the collector car market is strong in Germany across a variety of segments. From well-pedigreed pre-war greats like the Mercedes-Benz 540 K, through to Lancia rally legends and rare modern collectables from the Youngtimer Collection, fresh-to-market, exceptional examples continue to bring top prices. We were pleased to see strong interest from new collectors at this inaugural sale, especially across the much-loved Youngtimer Collection which has appealed to a slightly younger generation of collector, and we look forward to further refining the Essen experience next year.”

If a left-hand drive XJ220 doesn't suit, well you can have a 1995 right-hand drive version with just 700miles in Le Mans Blue. This car was recently discovered in a private collection in Malaysia and brought back to the UK where it underwent £25,000 worth of work by XJ220 model experts Don Law in December 2015. Estimated at £325,000 to £375,000.
Two highly collectable cars which to date are still the fastest cars produced by Jaguar. A great opportunity to acquire one of the most significant supercars of their era.

Other Jaguars in the auction include E-Types which have always been considered one of the most desirable cars and Silverstone Auctions are offering a variety of specifications including this remarkably pretty 1973 V12 Roadster Series 3 in manual. The car has been in the same ownership for the last 22 years and underwent a restoration in 2000, taking four years by respected firm Classic Motor Cars (CMC) in Bridgenorth. At the same time as the restoration, the clutch and brakes were upgraded. Registered as FRW 300L in Coventry, the Heritage Certificate states it was a Jaguar Cars Ltd press car. Prior to the auction, this car will be MOT tested and is estimated at £80,000 to £100,000.
The British Marques sale also includes a remarkable 47,000 mile, two owner, 1965 E-Type Series 1 FHC. What is even more remarkable is the car still retains its original paint. This is a US delivered, left-hand drive car, which had a replacement interior whilst it was in the United States finished fantastically to its original specification. A true time warp and estimated at £40,000 to £50,000.
RBN 376 is a very interesting XK150. If you like doing some competition then this XK150S with a 3.8L engine could be the car. It started life as Fixed Head Coupe in Pearl Grey, then underwent a full restoration in 1990/91 when it was converted to a Drop Head Coupe at a cost of £58,000. In 2000 it was upgraded to rally spec for competition at a cost of £60,000, followed by a further upgrade and another £58,000 in 2005/6 with a competition engine. In 2008 the current vendor purchased the car and has since had it fastidiously maintained by Pearsons Engineering. This is a striking, sporty Jaguar and looks fantastic in Red, with an amazing history file, estimated at £120,000 to £150,000 you will not be able to walk by this amazing car.
If something a bit more modern is for you a 1994 Jaguar XJS Convertible could be the car. Presented in Artic Blue and with just 14,700 miles indicated and three former keepers, XJS’ of this quality are becoming quite desirable in this market. The second owner had the car for 21 years before selling it to the current vendor and at an estimated £20,000 to £25,000 this could be a fantastic example to own.
The sale day will start with Automobilia and watches, with some of the highlights for Jaguar enthusiasts being an original XK150 painting by Tony Upson estimated at £300 to £400, some original E-Type handbooks estimated at £150 to £200, a cherished number plate, JA66 UAA, at £600 to £700 and an extremely rare cast brass leaping cat mascot from 1930 which is one of the five original prototypes and the actual mascot accepted by William Lyons estimated at £10,000 to £15,000.
