PORSCHE CARRERA GT AND FERRARI 599 MANUAL STAR AT MARQUE DEDICATED SALE

PORSCHE CARRERA GT AND FERRARI 599 MANUAL STAR AT MARQUE DEDICATED SALE
 2005 Porsche Carrera GT

2008 Ferrari 599 GTB Manual

Silverstone Auctions marque dedicated sale for Ferrari and Porsche was well supported on Saturday as owners clubs took part in the day’s events that saw a Porsche Carrera GT and a rare Ferrari 599 Manual top the sale.
The auction took place at the Dallas Burston Polo Club in Warwickshire with 66 cars on sale across both marques and the Porsche Club GB held their Pride of Ownership within the grounds, with the presentation taking place in the break between the two sales.
The sale of Ferraris were the first out of the blocks with some very notable cars attracting lots of interest. With four Ferrari 599s in the auction, the rare manual version sold for £360,000 and swiftly followed one of 40 special editions an Alonso Final Edition achieving £208,125. Jay Kay’s 356 GTC/4 Coupe found a new home at £219,375. Lot 326 the 1995 Ferrari 512 M had a fierce battle which eventually settled on bids going up by the £1,000 much to the support of the room and the auctioneer achieving a superb £153,000.
The star lot in the sale of Porsches was the 2005 Carrera GT which sold on the phone for £607,500, a stunningly rare car looking superb as it took pride of place in front of the rostrum. Jay Kay’s second car in the auction was his 911 (911) Turbo S which went for £106,875. Lot 406, the rare manual 928 GT sold for £51,750 to new owners, one of whom was so happy with their purchase he couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear and was over the moon when he finally got to sit in it after the auction had finished. Another car that was subject to much discussion on the day was Lot 430 the 944 Turbo Cabriolet which sold for £27,000, a rare car, one of just 200 finding a new home. Lot 425 the rare and desirable early 1971 911 2.2 S sold for £72,000.
Nick Whale, Silverstone Auctions Managing Director commented: “We had some fabulous cars on offer with the key cars selling and finding new homes. The Porsche sale achieved a sale of £1.2 million which was good for the marque despite them having a tougher year of late. The Ferraris did well with £1.8 million in sales with Jay Kay’s car selling along with two of the 599s.”
“It was great to have the support of the clubs and their enthusiastic members. Working with them as we regularly do, is always a pleasure.”
“Our next sale is at the NEC for the Lancaster Insurance Classic Car Sale, which is held over two days. Traditionally a great weekend for us and our final sale of 2019.”

LIMITED PRODUCTION FERRARIS AND PORSCHES TO BE OFFERED AT SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS SALE THIS WEEKEND

LIMITED PRODUCTION FERRARIS AND PORSCHES TO BE OFFERED AT SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS SALE THIS WEEKEND
1983 Ferrari 308 GTS QV
This weekend Silverstone Auctions will be holding their marque dedicated sale for Ferrari and Porsche at the Dallas Burston Polo Club with superb examples of 34 Ferraris and 32 Porsches in each of the sales.
Held in association with the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain and Porsche Club GB some fine examples of sports cars are being offered with limited editions and limited production runs starting in this weekends sale.
Of the 34 Ferraris being offered this car is what many consider to be the most desirable of all the 308s, the GTS Quattrovalvole. Made famous by Tom Selleck in Magnum PI, this is your chance to acquire a limited production run of just 233 UK supplied right-hand drive cars. This superb UK supplied in 1983 Ferrari has been in the same family for the last 27 years having been purchased in 1992 and passed from father to son. The father used the car until 2000 when the car was then placed in long term storage until 2018. It was at this time that they decided to recommission the car at a cost of £24,000 and now giving a great driving experience for the next owner at and estimated £50,000 to £60,000.
Our second Ferrari is the successor to the 308 we have just talked about. This is the 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS and built in the final year of its production which started in 1985. This is one of 292 UK supplied right-hand drive cars in the classic Rosso Corsa with Crema hide interior and has just 17,000 miles on the clock. The car is currently in the possession of Silverstone Auctions and is really worth seeing if you are thinking of purchasing this car and would like a private viewing. It is in stunning condition and accompanied by its owner’s manuals, tool kit and interesting history file. Estimated at £75,000 to £85,000 and coming from a significant private collection this is a rare version of a low mileage classic Ferrari.
Now turning our attention to the Porsche sale which follows on from the Ferrari sale, we have some superb lots which include this 1988 Supersport Cabriolet. One of just 39 examples produced for the UK market in right-hand drive, this Guards Red Porsche with an unusual interior which was chosen from the Special Wishes Programme, Linen leather and other additions including a gold embellished gear knob and to differentiate it even further it features the front air dam and side skirts which were dealer-fitted from a 930 SE. The list of features on this car is endless, but it does feature the very desirable manual G50 gearbox which was fitted in the final three years of the car’s production. At an estimated £48,000 to £55,000 this really is an even rarer version of the Supersport Cabriolet with its Special Wishes options and the 930 SE aerodynamic kit.
Our final car in this release is the 1988 Porsche 928 S4 Sports Equipment estimated at £33,000 to £38,000. Only 42 of these cars were for the UK market and this one was purchased new by Formula One driver Tom Belso who raced for Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1973 and 1974 and owned for 24 years. The current vendor purchased the car in 2016 and began a programme of works to restore the car to its best using marque specialists and at a cost of £25,000 according to the cars history file. This is a rare car and one for any Porsche collector or enthusiast coming with an interesting provenance.
Harry Whale commented: “We have 66 high-quality cars in our sale this weekend and all of them with some great stories or history. We also have some outstanding cars being offered, the Carrera GT, two Ferrari Daytonas, cars from rock star Jay Kay, low mileage cars and limited production cars too.”
“We are really looking forward to the sale at the weekend, there is plenty of choice for Ferrari and Porsche collectors and enthusiasts.”
Silverstone Auctions sale also includes a selection of marque related automobilia which starts at 10.30am. If you are thinking of purchasing a 308 you might like to know about Lot 129 a very rare pair of original cylinder heads. Both cylinder heads are in good condition, complete with cam covers but do not come with the camshafts and one is missing the valves. A very rare component at an estimated £2,700 to £3,150. With many other lots offering automobilia for both Ferrari and Porsche enthusiasts there is plenty to get the auction revved up on Saturday.
The Sale of Ferrari and Porsche takes place at the Dallas Burston Polo Club on Saturday 21st September. The auction starts with automobilia at 10.30, followed by the Ferrari sale at 12.30 and Porsche at 2.30. The lots can be previewed on Friday the 20th September from 1pm to 5pm.

STUNNING FERRARI AND PORSCHE OFFERED DIRECT FROM THE COLLECTION OF JAY KAY

STUNNING FERRARI AND PORSCHE OFFERED DIRECT FROM THE COLLECTION OF JAY KAY

Silverstone Auctions are very proud to be offering four limited in numbers and rare cars from very well known and respected car collectors and connoisseurs with rock and roll and motorsport history.
Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay is offering two incredible cars direct from his eclectic collection. Also offered is a very rare Porsche Speedster once owned by the Indycar Champion Dario Franchitti and imported to the UK by him when he moved here. Silverstone Auctions are also very proud to be offering not one but two Ferrari Daytonas, one formerly owned by rock legend Sir Elton John and the second formerly owned by legendary Ecurie Ecosse Le Mans racer Tommy Dickson.
It is always exciting to see what comes from the superb eclectic collection of car connoisseur, Jay Kay. The two cars he is now offering at the Sale of Ferraris and Porsches are simply superb.
The first is the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4, is one of only 505 cars produced and was imported by Joe Macari in 2014 and restored by them to Concours standard prior to Jay Kay purchasing the car at the London Classic Car Show in 2016. Like all of Jay Kay’s cars, the Ferrari has been properly stored and looked after and is ready to go for a sensibly estimated £200,000 to £260,000. The 365 GTC/4 has a lot in common with the larger 365 GTB/4 but was aimed at being a more comfortable grand tourer.
Nick Whale Silverstone Auctions Managing Director got a chance to drive this car and commented: “This car turned out to be the best driving Ferrari built in the 1970s that I have ever experienced. It has refinement in terms of both ride and noise levels, way beyond any reasonable expectations and furthermore, it has performance and handling to match. The engine just purrs at tick over and from there it delivers amazing quantities of both torque and power in a smooth and quietly progressive manner. In short, it's a real drivers’ car that you could cover serious miles in with no concerns about comfort and reliability. I absolutely love it!"
The second car Jay Kay is offering is a final version of the 991 a 2015 Porsche 911 Turbo S. The S is traditionally offered to the last of the line models signifying the ultimate development. This UK supplied car that was first registered as a dealer demonstrator with a very significant options list, became the property of Jay Kay a month later in April 2015. Estimated at £100,000 to £120,000 this four-wheel drive, 5,000 miles from new, seven-speed Porsche is a superb opportunity to own not just a car with celebrity provenance but a car from the collection of music legend Jay Kay.
Moving on from the world of musician owned cars, our next lot is a 1994 Porsche 911 (964) Speedster estimated at £125,000 to £150,000 formerly owned by multiple IndyCar Series Champion and Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti. This Porsche is one of 469 made for the North American market out of fewer than 1,000 made globally. Presented in the desirable Guards Red, this Porsche was purchased by Dario Franchitti in 2010 whilst he was racing for Chip Ganassi Racing. When he retired and moved to the UK he brought the car over and registered it with the DVLA. The car remains in outstanding condition and comes with the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and original marketing brochure amongst all the paperwork. This is an incredibly rare car with just 19,279 miles from new and with excellent motorsport owned provenance. A great addition to any Porsche collection.
Our final cars in the release are not one but two right-hand drive 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytonas. The first is one, formerly owned by Sir Elton John. Registered new on the 3rd August 1972 by Maranello Concessionaires, the documents show that Sir Elton John, who has an enviable car collection of some of the finest classic cars, owned this stunning Daytona from 1973 to 1975, purchasing the car off the back of the success of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and among the first Ferraris owned by the rock star at the start of his music career.
This matching numbers car with known ownership from new, is one of only 158 genuine right-hand-drive UK-supplied Daytonas. Sold by Silverstone Auctions two years ago and is now being offered by the deceased’s estate at the Sale of Ferraris offered at £425,000 to £475,000.
Our second Daytona is estimated at £475,000 to £525,000 and is also a rare right-hand-drive car which comes with a Ferrari Classiche Certificate. Dealer owned for a number of years at which point it was owned by Tommy Dixon, famous Ecurie Ecosse Le Mans racer, of Dixons of Perth. Foskers have compiled a four-page document on the ownership and service history of this car, detailing all the significant changes in the car’s history and very impressive it is. Our vendor purchased the car in 2016 and asked prior to purchase, the hugely knowledgeable John Pogson MIMI to carry out a pre-sale report. All the items raised in the report appear to have been addressed and in the summer of 2016, the car was awarded the legendary and highly desirable Classiche Certificate.
John Pogson reported just recently: “The originality and patina in this car are amazing and one of the best I’ve ever seen, very hard to find this level today. No faults to report. This is one of the best, most rewarding Daytonas I’ve ever driven.”
Nick Whale commented: “We are always delighted to work with cars that come from such historical provenance and when Jay Kay offers us a car to sell we always know it has been very well looked after and one that is significant. He, after all, has an enviable and eclectic collection of cars.”
“These cars offered in our forthcoming sale on the 21st September at the Dallas Burston Polo Club are simply superb, very desirable and from limited production runs. It is not often that you have two right-hand drive 365 GTB/4 Daytonas to offer.”
Silverstone Auctions sale also includes a selection of marque related automobilia which starts at 10.30am. Included in this part of the sale is Lot 115 a complete briefcase tool kit for a 365 GTB/4 Daytona. Estimated at £1,500 to £2,000 the ideal complement to your Daytona later in the sale.
Lot 151 also for a Daytona is the 365/GTB/4 Pouch set. Though it is for a 1973 model could well be a great item of automobilia for any Daytona enthusiast. Estimated at £4,000 to £5,000
The Sale of Ferrari and Porsche takes place at the Dallas Burston Polo Club on Saturday 21st September. The auction starts with automobilia at 10.30, followed by the Ferrari sale at 12.30 and Porsche at 2.30. The lots can be previewed on Friday the 20th September from 1pm to 5pm.

NEW CAR: RM SOTHEBY’S ADDS
PORSCHE 718 RS 60 TO MONTEREY AUCTION

The Porsche Type 64, chassis no. 38/41 is the antecedent of Porsche’s historical evolution. The first and sole remaining example of a believed three completed cars, this was the personal car of the Porsche family, driven by both Prof. h.c. Ferdinand Porsche and his son, Ferry. Owned and raced for 46 years by successful private racing driver Otto Mathé, the Type 64 carries a 70-year documented chain of a mere three private owners since the Porsche family.

The car is extremely original, and its resemblance to the marque’s evolution through the years, right up to today’s 911 model range, is easily discernable. This is the first car to ever wear Porsche’s iconic wide-font script name and is without a doubt the most historically important Porsche ever offered for public sale. The Porsche Type 64 is estimated to bring in excess of $20 million when it crosses the block during the Saturday evening session of RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale this August.

Joining RM Sotheby’s exceptional Monterey lineup of no less than 20 Porsche models, is a fantastic example of the decades-later development of Ferdinand and Ferry Porsche’s first racing efforts seen in Type 64—a 1960 Porsche 718 RS 60 by Wendler, chassis no. 718-044. The final example of just four Works cars built, the 718 RS 60 was campaigned by the Porsche factory for the 1960 and ’61 seasons. With technical advances over the privateer version of the car, the Works 718 RS 60 was the first Porsche racer capable of threatening larger displacement classes, often competing for outright wins against perennial favourites such as Ferrari.

Chassis no. 718-044 made its factory team debut at the 1960 24 Hours of Le Mans, piloted by Jo Bonnier and future motorsports triple crown holder Graham Hill. It would go on to contest the 1961 12 Hours of Sebring, the Targa Florio, and the Nürburgring 1000 KM at the hands of such renowned names as Hans Hermann, Dan Gurney, Sir Stirling Moss, and Edgar Barth. Following its Works career, the Porsche was dispatched to North America and entered by Porsche Cars at the 1961 Mosport Player’s 200, where Jo Bonnier finished second overall. Under subsequent private ownership, the RS 60 was driven by none other than Bob Holbert to two overall victories and a class win during the Bahamas Speed Week in late 1961.

The Porsche has since been fastidiously maintained under the care of several major private collections, making noteworthy appearances at numerous historic events, including the inaugural Le Mans vintage races, Porsche Parade, Goodwood Revival, and Rennsport Reunion just last year following a three-year restoration by marque specialists. Presented wearing its Sebring livery in race-ready condition, and with the other three Works cars held in long-term private ownership, unlikely to be available anytime soon, this RS 60 presents an exceedingly rare opportunity to acquire the ultimate iteration of Porsche’s factory aluminium spyder race cars (Est. $5,750,000 - $7,750,000).

The Porsche Type 64 and 718 RS 60 highlight RM Sotheby’s 2019 Monterey auction. Held during the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance motoring week, RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale has been the pinnacle of collector car auctions for more than 30 years, leading the field and raising the bar with its consistent, record-setting results. This year’s three-day Monterey sale will once again present more than 180 of the world’s most important motor cars in the ultimate collector car destination.

Additional information and an updated list of all cars set for RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale is available at rmsothebys.com.

BLENHEIM, Ontario (23 July 2019) – RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to release the complete catalogue for its Monterey auction, set for 15-17 August at the Monterey Conference Center in California. The record-setting sale—which this year features a special third auction night on 15 August, ‘An Evening with Aston Martin’—will present 184 motor cars and a selection of memorabilia, of which 43 lots carry million-dollar-plus pre-sale estimates and of which nearly 45 per cent are offered without reserve. “This is without a doubt one of our most significant offerings to date across all auctions,” says Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions, RM Sotheby’s, of the 2019 Monterey sale. “With the cultural phenomenon that is the Bond DB5, the pedigree of the Works Aston Martin DB3S and Werks Porsche RS 60, the full Ford GT lineup, some of the rarest road and racing Ferraris, the incredible history behind the Type 64, and the legendary performance of the McLaren F1 ‘LM-Spec’, we have assembled some of the most desirable and hard-to-find cars on the planet. This also marks the first time that a modern supercar has led the entire Monterey week offering across all auctions, and we look forward to sharing a memorable weekend with the collector car world in California next month.”

Thursday, 15 August

“An Evening with Aston Martin,” held in association with Aston Martin Works, will kick off the Monterey auction on Thursday night, with 34 of the world’s most sought-after road-going and track-ready Aston Martin sports cars crossing the block. Headlining the evening is the highly original DB3S Works, the second Works DB3S ever built. Raced in some of the most prestigious motorsport events of the 1950s, the car was piloted by numerous legendary drivers including ex-Aston Martin team driver Peter Collins, who purchased the car in 1955. The DB3S Works is offered at Monterey as an important piece of Aston Martin’s competition history, remarkably complete with its original chassis, body, and engine (Est. $8,750,000-$10,500,000).

Joining the DB3S Works on Thursday is the full lineup of DB5 variations, led by the much-buzzed-about James Bond 1965 Aston Martin DB5. Dubbed “The Most Famous Car in the World”, the car is one of just two examples purchased by Eon Productions for the promotional launch of Thunderball, fitted with 13 Q Brand specified, fully functional Bond gadgets (Est. $4,000,000-$6,000,000

Friday, 16 August

Leading the Friday night session is the incredible 1994 McLaren F1 ‘LM-Specification’, considered one of the best examples of history’s most revered modern supercar. Serial no. 018 is one of a mere two cars upgraded by McLaren to LM specifications, equipped with the unrestricted GTR racing engine good for 680hp and an extra High-Downforce Kit. Finished in arguably the most desirable colour combo, the F1 comes to Monterey from 12 years of single ownership, during which it was meticulously maintained by McLaren Special Operations and enjoyed as was intended by its creators (Est. $21,000,000-$23,000,000). The McLaren leads a lineup of the hobby’s rarest and most powerful supercars and hypercars set for Monterey.

Also sure to steal the spotlight on Friday are three racing legends: a 1962 Ferrari 196 SP by Fantuzzi, a 1954 Maserati A6GCS by Fiandri & Malagoli, and a 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster Prototype. The final of five surviving Scuderia Ferrari Sports Prototypes constructed for the 1961–62 seasons, the 196 SP boasts fascinating early racing history and retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox (Est. $8,000,000-$10,000,000). The 25th of 52 total examples built, the A6GCS was campaigned by the Maserati factory team during the 1954 season, at the hands of famed works driver, Luigi Musso, seeing numerous podium and first-in-class finishes (Est. $3,250,000-$3,750,000). The first of just five roadsters built, the highly original GT40 Roadster Prototype leads the complete Ford GT lineage in Monterey and was driven by the likes of such legendary drivers as Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles, and Jim Clark (Est. $7,000,000-$9,000,000).

Saturday, 17 August

The final sale evening is highlighted by the oldest car to wear the Porsche name, the 1939 Porsche Type 64. The only surviving original Type 64, the car predates the first production Porsche and is the antecedent of the 356 and Porsche’s historical evolution to come. Driven extensively by the Porsche family, the Type 64 comes to Monterey from the long-term care of just its fourth owner (Est. In excess of $20,000,000).

The Type 64 leads a group of 20 Porsche models presented at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale, which also includes a 1960 Porsche 718 RS 60 Werks. The final example of just four Werks cars built, the RS 60 was campaigned by the Porsche factory for the 1960 and ’61 seasons and presents an exceedingly rare opportunity to acquire the ultimate iteration of Porsche’s factory aluminium spyder race cars (Est. $5,750,000 - $7,750,000).

Ferrari will also take top billing at the Monterey sale, with no less than 31 significant models sprinkled throughout the Friday and Saturday evenings. Leading Saturday highlights is the only remaining unrestored 1962 Ferrari 250 SWB California Spider, presented in fully numbers-matching, Ferrari Classiche Certified condition (Est. $10,500,000-$13,000,000), alongside a matching-numbers, Ferrari Classiche-certified 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, one of just 40 steel body models built, and offered without reserve (Est. $8,000,000-$10,000,000).

RM Sotheby’s, the official auction house of the esteemed Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, concluded its fifth, successful Villa Erba sale on the shores of Lake Como, Italy, grossing an impressive €19,798,085 and with five cars achieving figures in excess of €1,000,000. Bidders at the exclusive event represented no less than 30 countries, with more than 25 per cent being first-time RM Sotheby’s clientele.

Pre-sale, it was two incredible sports racing machines from the 1950s which had garnered significant attention, and on the night it was the same two cars which stole the show. The top seller was the original, matching-numbers 1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Spider, chassis no. 0448 MD, the 12th of just 13 Pinin Farina Spiders built. The car boasts the extensive period racing history and is an exceptionally eligible car for historic racing and concours events. Fully restored and Ferrari Classiche certified, the car was deservedly bought for€3,717,500.

No car exemplifies the appeal of a 1950s sports racing car more than a 1957 Porsche 550A Spyder, providing exceptional usability and ultimate eligibility for historic events. The car sold at Villa Erba is one of only 40 cars made and benefits from a well-known and highly documented history. Chassis no. 550A-0121 was first delivered to Denmark in 1957 and enjoyed competition history there as well as in Africa where it went on to be sold. The car has undergone a complete, body-off restoration by leading Porsche specialists and has only covered 100km on the road since returning from the workshop. This wonderful piece of Porsche history achieved €3,380,000.

1960s Aston Martins are always desirable and none more so than the rare 1965 Aston Martin Short-Chassis Volante, which is one of the final examples of a mere 37 built. Offered after a period of long-term ownership and beautifully restored in Switzerland by renowned experts, the car is matching numbers and features a rare and desirable hardtop. It fully deserved to be the night’s third highest seller, achieving an impressive €1,805,000. The sale was notable for featuring an incredible collection of rare Zagato-bodied cars in celebration of the coachbuilder’s 100th anniversary, and leading the group was a stunning 1955 Fiat 8V Coupé by Zagato, a car highly coveted by collectors. The car sold, chassis no. 000076, is one of 26 coupes built, and brought a worthy €1,771,250.

Augustin Sabatié-Garat, Car Specialist and the Villa Erba Auction Manager, RM Sotheby’s, says: “To achieve nearly €20 million in gross sales is a great result, and it’s a testament to the high-quality cars that were on offer at Villa Erba. We have once again demonstrated that the best 1950s sports racing cars with strong provenance remain the most highly prized collector cars in this hobby-driven market, while cars such as the Aston Martin Volante and Fiat 8V Coupe demonstrate how the appeal of timeless design and low production numbers are key factors in driving demand among enthusiasts and collectors.”

It was the absolutely stunning 1931 Bugatti Type 50 Roadster that rounded out the top five sellers on the night. This incredible supercharged, eight-cylinder engined touring car, is one of two remaining examples with original Jean Bugatti-designed factory coachwork and was offered in beautifully restored condition. With factory records including the original bill of sale, this pre-war great achieved €1,411,250.

Aside from the Fiat 8V, the other Zagato bodied cars sold extremely well in the sale; a fitting tribute in the legendary designer’s 100thanniversary year. The 2019 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake, the 12th of only 99 built, made €511,250; the glorious and well-restored 1966 Lancia Flaminia Super Sport 3C 2.8 made €252,500; the 1987 Aston Martin V8 Vantage, one of only 14 examples with manual transmission, made €331,250; the 1990 Ferrari 348 TB Zagato Elaborazione, the prototype example and the 1991 Geneva show car, made €218,500; and the diminutive and highly sought-after 1959 Fiat-Abarth 750 GT 'Double Bubble' by Zagato, made €103,500.
