PORSCHE CARRERA GT AND FERRARI 599 MANUAL STAR AT MARQUE DEDICATED SALE

PORSCHE CARRERA GT AND FERRARI 599 MANUAL STAR AT MARQUE DEDICATED SALE
 2005 Porsche Carrera GT

2008 Ferrari 599 GTB Manual

Silverstone Auctions marque dedicated sale for Ferrari and Porsche was well supported on Saturday as owners clubs took part in the day’s events that saw a Porsche Carrera GT and a rare Ferrari 599 Manual top the sale.
The auction took place at the Dallas Burston Polo Club in Warwickshire with 66 cars on sale across both marques and the Porsche Club GB held their Pride of Ownership within the grounds, with the presentation taking place in the break between the two sales.
The sale of Ferraris were the first out of the blocks with some very notable cars attracting lots of interest. With four Ferrari 599s in the auction, the rare manual version sold for £360,000 and swiftly followed one of 40 special editions an Alonso Final Edition achieving £208,125. Jay Kay’s 356 GTC/4 Coupe found a new home at £219,375. Lot 326 the 1995 Ferrari 512 M had a fierce battle which eventually settled on bids going up by the £1,000 much to the support of the room and the auctioneer achieving a superb £153,000.
The star lot in the sale of Porsches was the 2005 Carrera GT which sold on the phone for £607,500, a stunningly rare car looking superb as it took pride of place in front of the rostrum. Jay Kay’s second car in the auction was his 911 (911) Turbo S which went for £106,875. Lot 406, the rare manual 928 GT sold for £51,750 to new owners, one of whom was so happy with their purchase he couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear and was over the moon when he finally got to sit in it after the auction had finished. Another car that was subject to much discussion on the day was Lot 430 the 944 Turbo Cabriolet which sold for £27,000, a rare car, one of just 200 finding a new home. Lot 425 the rare and desirable early 1971 911 2.2 S sold for £72,000.
Nick Whale, Silverstone Auctions Managing Director commented: “We had some fabulous cars on offer with the key cars selling and finding new homes. The Porsche sale achieved a sale of £1.2 million which was good for the marque despite them having a tougher year of late. The Ferraris did well with £1.8 million in sales with Jay Kay’s car selling along with two of the 599s.”
“It was great to have the support of the clubs and their enthusiastic members. Working with them as we regularly do, is always a pleasure.”
“Our next sale is at the NEC for the Lancaster Insurance Classic Car Sale, which is held over two days. Traditionally a great weekend for us and our final sale of 2019.”

RM SOTHEBY’S PARTNERS WITH ASTON MARTIN FOR SINGLE-MARQUE EVENING AT MONTEREY AUCTION

RM SOTHEBY’S PARTNERS WITH ASTON MARTIN FOR SINGLE-MARQUE EVENING AT MONTEREY AUCTION

MONTEREY SALE EXTENDS TO THREE NIGHTS FOR 2019

EARLY ENTRY: ASTON MARTIN DB5 OFFERED FROM 40 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP

  • RM Sotheby’s, official auction partner of Aston Martin, to present dedicated, single-marque sale in Monterey
  • Monterey sale extends to three nights for 2019, kicking off with Evening of Aston Martin on 15 August
  • Early entries for Aston Martin sale led by a very early DB5 offered from 40 years of single private ownership
  • Additional information on the Monterey sale available at rmsothebys.com

Following the announcement of an official partnership with Aston Martin during Monterey Car Week last year, RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce early entries for the company’s Evening of Aston Martin at its annual flagship Monterey auction. Extending the record-setting Monterey sale to three days for 2019 RM Sotheby’s will present a dedicated, single-marque session on Thursday, 15 August at the Monterey Conference Center, featuring more than 30 of the world’s most sought-after road-going and track-ready Aston Martin sports cars from across the marque’s illustrious history.

RM Sotheby’s appointment as the official auction partner for Aston Martin follows the auction house’s successful sale of several of the most valuable Aston Martins ever sold at auction. The partnership will celebrate the anniversary of Aston Martin’s historic 1959 win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, as well as support the marque’s successful Second Century Plan, which is delivering a new Aston Martin model every year for seven years, and also promises two ‘specials’ per year, which are set to become collectibles of the future.

“We are honoured to partner with Aston Martin as the marque’s official auction house and for what is set to be an incredible evening in Monterey,” said Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions, RM Sotheby’s. “RM Sotheby’s has long been the auction house of choice for the sale of important Aston Martin models, and our Monterey auction has proven time and again to be the best venue for the most exceptional examples, exhibited by the sale of the one-off DP215 last year, and the DBR1/1 in 2017 – the most valuable British car ever sold at auction. We’re looking forward to bringing some of the world’s best Aston Martin models to the single-marque sale, and the very early, long-term ownership DB5 we’ve consigned is a fantastic example of the fresh-to-market cars that collectors can expect.”

Paul Spires, President of Aston Martin Works, said“This early interest in the inaugural auction from would-be owners around the world is an extremely positive sign.”
“The market for historic cars is constantly evolving and it is vital that, with its remarkable heritage and growing appeal worldwide, Aston Martin is represented by the best auction house in the business. RM Sotheby’s give us at Aston Martin Works – the global heritage division of Aston Martin – the opportunity to reach a first class international clientele.”

RM Sotheby’s is already looking ahead to the single-marque evening, securing an auction highlight in the form of a very early 1964 Aston Martin DB5. A factory left-hand-drive example, chassis no. DB5/1305/L is just the fifth DB5 ever produced, sold new through British Motor Car Distributors in San Francisco to the Washington Fruit & Produce Corporation. The DB5 was purchased by the consignor in 1981 off the street in Sausalito, California, remaining in his private ownership ever since. Presented at Monterey in highly original, never fully restored condition, the matching-numbers DB5 retains its original engine, is finished in its original colours, and features interesting factory options including an overdrive transmission and 3.77 rear axle ratio. Faithfully maintained by marque experts for the last four decades, the well-documented Aston Martin has been driven and enjoyed throughout its life and offers its next enthusiast owner the opportunity to acquire a very early DB5 (Est. $700,000 - $900,000).

RM Sotheby’s is currently responsible for the top three most valuable Aston Martins yet sold at auction. Held during the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance motoring week, RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale (15-17 August), has been the pinnacle of collector car auctions for more than 30 years, leading the field and raising the bar with its consistent, record-setting results. This year’s Monterey sale will once again present more than 120 of the world’s most important motor cars in the ultimate collector car destination.

Consignments are invited through early July 2019

$5.95 MILLION 959 PARIS-DAKAR LEADS RM SOTHEBY’S FIRST-EVER SINGLE-MARQUE PORSCHE SALE

$5.95 MILLION 959 PARIS-DAKAR LEADS RM SOTHEBY’S
FIRST-EVER SINGLE-MARQUE PORSCHE SALE
$3.4 MILLION PROJECT GOLD TOPS OFF SEVEN DECADES OF MARQUE HISTORY PRESENTED AT THE PORSCHE EXPERIENCE CENTER ATLANTA

  • RM Sotheby’s generates $25.8 million with a 92 percent sell-through rate at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta
  • Stand-out prices led by the first 959 Paris-Dakar ever offered at auction, doubling estimate at $5.95 million
  • Strong results achieved across seven decades of Porsche models, culminating with $3.4 million “Project Gold”
  • Complete results from RM Sotheby’s Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction available at rmsothebys.com

RM Sotheby’s celebrated 70 years of Porsche on Saturday with the company’s single-marque Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta (PEC), also the home of Porsche Cars North America. RM Sotheby’s achieved $25.8 million in total sales, with 92 percent of all lots finding new homes.
Purveyors of Porsche descended on the PEC for the Friday preview of the cars on offer, alongside a symposium, gala, and special concert performed by music legend and Porsche enthusiast, John Oates. Enthusiastic bidders on auction day represented no less than 25 countries around the world, with nearly 50 percent bidding with RM Sotheby’s for the first time. Bidding at the single-marque sale was spirited from the very start, with plenty of interest in the wide variety of memorabilia on offer and many of those collectible lots exceeding expectations, including a group of Porsche 911 Sales Literature, which well-surpassed its estimate at a final $20,400 (est. $5k/7k).

The offering of 63 of the world’s most important and most sought-after, privately-owned Porsche models was led by a 1985 Porsche 959 Paris-Dakar, one of just three built to contest the 1985 Paris-Dakar Rally as a Works entry and the very first example ever offered at auction. One of seven developmental cars, four of which are retained by Porsche, chassis no. 010015 was piloted by three-time Paris-Dakar winner RenĂ© Metge, representing Porsche in the most grueling rally of all time. After a sustained competition between several bidders in the room and on the phone, the 959 sold for a final $5,945,000, nearly doubling its high estimate (est. $3.0m/3.4m).

Additional motor car highlights included the 1958 Porsche 356 A 1600 ‘Super’ Speedster, which, after having emerged from storage since 1983, was recently returned to driving condition and would be the ideal restoration project. Complete with its original matching-numbers drivetrain and desirable 1600 ‘Super’ engine, the wonderfully distressed Speedster was offered without reserve, soaring past its high estimate to bring a final $307,500 after tremendous interest (est. $125k/150k).

In what was one of the most anticipated moments of the auction, the 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo Classic Series "Project Gold" came under the hammer to applause from the crowd and significant interest on the phones and in the room. An exciting ten-minute bidding competition ensued, with no less than 9 bidders in the room and on the phone, with the car eventually selling for an incredible $3,415,000 to a bidder onsite at the PEC. Project Gold is the final air-cooled 911 Turbo, built 20 years after the end of 993 production. This incredible undertaking began at the Porsche factory one and a half years ago with an existing genuine Type 993 body shell. The experts at Porsche Classic were able to rely on a selection of over 6,500 parts, assembling this “new” 993 Turbo S at the Porsche Classic restoration workshop near Stuttgart. An exciting car with a worthy cause, proceeds from the sale of Project Gold will benefit the Ferry Porsche foundation.

“After many months of preparation and cooperation with Porsche Cars North America, we were delighted to see so many like-minded enthusiasts, clients and collectors from all over the world make the journey to celebrate the marque’s 70th Anniversary at the most impressive Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, Georgia,” said veteran Car Specialist and Auction Manager, Alexander Weaver, following the sale.
“The overwhelmingly positive response to the cars offered was characterized by a pool of global bidders that helped achieve outstanding prices for many models and numerous exciting moments throughout the auction. The Porsche market continues to establish its own baseline as we witnessed new Porsche enthusiasts join seasoned collectors to take part in bidding on rare and unique examples consigned to our first single-marque Porsche auction”.
