BLENHEIM, Ontario (23 July 2019) – RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to release the complete catalogue for its Monterey auction, set for 15-17 August at the Monterey Conference Center in California. The record-setting sale—which this year features a special third auction night on 15 August, ‘An Evening with Aston Martin’—will present 184 motor cars and a selection of memorabilia, of which 43 lots carry million-dollar-plus pre-sale estimates and of which nearly 45 per cent are offered without reserve. Highlight entries are found across all three nights, with standout cars including the James Bond 1965 Aston Martin DB5, the 1953 Aston Martin DB3S Works, the 1994 McLaren F1 ‘LM-Specification’, and the 1939 Porsche Type 64.

“This is without a doubt one of our most significant offerings to date across all auctions,” says Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions, RM Sotheby’s, of the 2019 Monterey sale. “With the cultural phenomenon that is the Bond DB5, the pedigree of the Works Aston Martin DB3S and Werks Porsche RS 60, the full Ford GT lineup, some of the rarest road and racing Ferraris, the incredible history behind the Type 64, and the legendary performance of the McLaren F1 ‘LM-Spec’, we have assembled some of the most desirable and hard-to-find cars on the planet. This also marks the first time that a modern supercar has led the entire Monterey week offering across all auctions, and we look forward to sharing a memorable weekend with the collector car world in California next month.”

Thursday, 15 August

“An Evening with Aston Martin,” held in association with Aston Martin Works, will kick off the Monterey auction on Thursday night, with 34 of the world’s most sought-after road-going and track-ready Aston Martin sports cars crossing the block. Headlining the evening is the highly original DB3S Works, the second Works DB3S ever built. Raced in some of the most prestigious motorsport events of the 1950s, the car was piloted by numerous legendary drivers including ex-Aston Martin team driver Peter Collins, who purchased the car in 1955. The DB3S Works is offered at Monterey as an important piece of Aston Martin’s competition history, remarkably complete with its original chassis, body, and engine (Est. $8,750,000-$10,500,000).

Joining the DB3S Works on Thursday is the full lineup of DB5 variations, led by the much-buzzed-about James Bond 1965 Aston Martin DB5. Dubbed “The Most Famous Car in the World”, the car is one of just two examples purchased by Eon Productions for the promotional launch of Thunderball, fitted with 13 Q Brand specified, fully functional Bond gadgets (Est. $4,000,000-$6,000,000

Friday, 16 August

Leading the Friday night session is the incredible 1994 McLaren F1 ‘LM-Specification’, considered one of the best examples of history’s most revered modern supercar. Serial no. 018 is one of a mere two cars upgraded by McLaren to LM specifications, equipped with the unrestricted GTR racing engine good for 680hp and an extra High-Downforce Kit. Finished in arguably the most desirable colour combo, the F1 comes to Monterey from 12 years of single ownership, during which it was meticulously maintained by McLaren Special Operations and enjoyed as was intended by its creators (Est. $21,000,000-$23,000,000). The McLaren leads a lineup of the hobby’s rarest and most powerful supercars and hypercars set for Monterey.

Also sure to steal the spotlight on Friday are three racing legends: a 1962 Ferrari 196 SP by Fantuzzi, a 1954 Maserati A6GCS by Fiandri & Malagoli, and a 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster Prototype. The final of five surviving Scuderia Ferrari Sports Prototypes constructed for the 1961–62 seasons, the 196 SP boasts fascinating early racing history and retains its matching-numbers engine and gearbox (Est. $8,000,000-$10,000,000). The 25th of 52 total examples built, the A6GCS was campaigned by the Maserati factory team during the 1954 season, at the hands of famed works driver, Luigi Musso, seeing numerous podium and first-in-class finishes (Est. $3,250,000-$3,750,000). The first of just five roadsters built, the highly original GT40 Roadster Prototype leads the complete Ford GT lineage in Monterey and was driven by the likes of such legendary drivers as Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles, and Jim Clark (Est. $7,000,000-$9,000,000).

Saturday, 17 August

The final sale evening is highlighted by the oldest car to wear the Porsche name, the 1939 Porsche Type 64. The only surviving original Type 64, the car predates the first production Porsche and is the antecedent of the 356 and Porsche’s historical evolution to come. Driven extensively by the Porsche family, the Type 64 comes to Monterey from the long-term care of just its fourth owner (Est. In excess of $20,000,000).

The Type 64 leads a group of 20 Porsche models presented at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale, which also includes a 1960 Porsche 718 RS 60 Werks. The final example of just four Werks cars built, the RS 60 was campaigned by the Porsche factory for the 1960 and ’61 seasons and presents an exceedingly rare opportunity to acquire the ultimate iteration of Porsche’s factory aluminium spyder race cars (Est. $5,750,000 - $7,750,000).

Ferrari will also take top billing at the Monterey sale, with no less than 31 significant models sprinkled throughout the Friday and Saturday evenings. Leading Saturday highlights is the only remaining unrestored 1962 Ferrari 250 SWB California Spider, presented in fully numbers-matching, Ferrari Classiche Certified condition (Est. $10,500,000-$13,000,000), alongside a matching-numbers, Ferrari Classiche-certified 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, one of just 40 steel body models built, and offered without reserve (Est. $8,000,000-$10,000,000).

EX-BMW PRESS CAR E38 M5 AND STUNNING E-TYPE LEAD ENTRIES FOR BARONS’ SUMMER CLASSIC SALE

EX-BMW PRESS CAR E38 M5 AND STUNNING E-TYPE LEAD ENTRIES FOR BARONS’ SUMMER CLASSIC SALE

Barons is bringing a really fine selection of classic and collectors’ cars to Sandown Park for its Summer Classic sale at the Surrey racecourse on July 16.
The entry list is headed by a very rare 1986 BMW E28 M5. This particular machine served as a BMW press car and was subsequently owned by a BMW Diagnostic Technician, and has a meticulously-maintained history file showing all the BMW OEM parts used both in its maintenance and in the incredibly detailed restoration carried out by the technician owner, for whom this was a real labour of love. It is one of only two RHD cars to leave the factory with both special individual paint and interior options and is the only one in this blue/black metallic colour combination. The interior is equally beautifully presented; when new, BMW Motorsport Gmbh trimmed all the door cards, centre console and dash in red leather and the roof lining in red suede. As part of its restoration, the interior was stripped, every leather part reconnolised and then painstakingly put back together. This remarkably impressive part of BMW’s history carries a guide price of £39,000-£46,000.
Sitting alongside the M5 at the head of the entry list is a stunning dark blue 1968 Jaguar E-type Series 1.5 2+2. It has led a very sheltered life, covering just 40,000 miles in 51 years, with only four owners from new. Offered complete with the registration number ‘536 BOY’, it has a guide price of £38,000-£45,000.
An elegant piece of classic British motoring comes in the form of the sleek 1962 Bentley S2, in a sophisticated sage green over smoke green livery. This lovely motor car is in excellent condition and drives superbly (£26,000 - £30,000). And classic American automotive history is represented by the splendid 1930 Nash Ambassador 8 4-door sedan, in striking red and white livery. This head-turning automobile has a guide price of £25,000-£30,000.
The festival season is well and truly upon us, and the 1972 VW Type 2 Campervan on offer at Sandown Park is the perfect festival or holiday companion. In the last two years, it has been restored from a very sorry state to a very high standard by a VW specialist, retaining as many original parts as possible, including the engine, which has been retuned. The interior has been fully restored, with seats and trims reupholstered in white leather and new kitchen cabinetry and appliances installed. This lovely little campervan is just waiting to be snapped up and taken on adventures and has a guide price of £22,000-£27,000.
The 1975 Ford Granada Ghia CoupĂ© going under the hammer on July 16 has been the subject of a 15-year nut-and-bolt restoration, with absolutely every component either reconditioned or replaced. This rare machine has only been driven on dry roads since the restoration was completed. Guide price: £9,000-£12,000.
Another immaculate motor car is the 1970 Rover 3.5-litre P5B. This handsome vehicle has been lovingly maintained throughout its life and has a comprehensive history file going back to when it was new, confirming the recorded mileage of 68,000. Guide price: £13,000-£16,000.
The 1973 Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1600 is perfect for road use and track days. It is fitted with an Alfa Romeo 2.0 litre Twin Spark engine and an Alfaholics fast road suspension set-up. In need of some cosmetic TLC, it has covered just 66,000 miles and has a guide price of £14,000-£18,000.
The charming 1961 Morris Mini Van in the sale is being sold by its only-ever owner and comes complete with documents including the order form for the van and the factory warranty. Amazingly it still has the original front and rear sub-frames and factory foam-filled sills. Guide price: £4,000-£6,000.
Early Volvo estates have a growing fanbase in the classic world, being both charismatic and hugely practical. The sale features a 1970 145 DL restoration project; with good examples now changing hands for more than £13,000 this is a great opportunity at a guide price of £1,000-£2,000.
Finally, the sale features two powerful Honda motorcycle combinations, both in very good condition and all being offered at realistic reserves. The 1982 Goldwing with Watsonian Sidecar has a guide price of £1,500-£3,000, while the1988 CB1000F combination is listed at £1,000-£2,000. Only being sold due to the recent passing of their owner, they are joined in a sale by a third Honda motorcycle from the same estate, a very good 1989 example of the VFR 750F, complete with original matching bright red panniers (£500-£1,500).

A wonderful selection of Porsche 911s from the 1980 heydays are to feature in the Classic Car Auction sale on the 3rd August, with Targas, Cabriolets and a Carrera G50.
The 1980s iconic car was the Porsche 911 with the large rear spoiler know as a Whale Tail and came to symbolise wealth and success. Some would say that this shape is the best and most sought after.
CCA have four wonderful examples coming to auction on the 3rd August at the Warwickshire Event Centre. Leading the selection is a 1986 Carrera 3.2 with the G50 manual transmission. This is a fabulous car with just two owners from new and a warranted 64,000 miles. Estimated at £50,000 to £60,000 this is a real time warp car supplied new by AFN Porsche in Guildford and recently recommissioned, it comes with a large history file and original keys.
Guy Lees-Milne of Classic Car Auctions commented: “This is a superb 911 and scores very highly in our condition report. It offers everything you could want from a 911, coming with the rare and desirable G50 transmission, finished in the preferred Guards Red, low ownership, what more could you want. A stunning car.”
Two years on we have a 1988 Carrera Targa in Ivory White which has been in the same ownership for the last ten years and is a lovely example of a 911. A UK supplied car with 99,500 miles and a detailed history, this car also won the East Midlands Concours in 1998 for Porsche Club GB. Estimated at £28,000 to £32,000.
If we take a step back to the late 1970s on offer is a 1978 SC Targa. Having just come out of long storage this is a 911 with lots of potential. A left-hand drive car finished in Minerva Blue and with the optional Whale Tail, it was imported from Holland in 1986 and been with the current owner for the last 23 years. With 91,000 miles on the clock and estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 this particular 911 offers a great opportunity to own an exciting car and take it to the next level.
Our final 911 from our sale selection is a beautifully restored 1984 Sport Cabriolet with a Porsche Certificate of authenticity. In 2016 the car underwent bodywork restoration including the inner and outer sills, undersealed a is finished off in Gold with a brown piped interior. Although the car is of a higher mileage, it has had top end engine rebuild only 20,000 miles ago. A lovely looking car with a large history file and estimated at £28,000 to £32,000.
Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions auction manager commented: “Again we have a superb selection of Porsches in our sale. These 911s we have highlighted offer a great opportunity into owning a Porsche. We work closely with the Porsche Club GB and often the members choose to sell their cars via us.”
“With other Porsche models in the sale from the 924, 928, 944 and Boxsters, there will be plenty of choice for fans of the marque.”

THE PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN OFFERED AT NO RESERVE

THE PROPERTY OF A GENTLEMAN OFFERED AT NO RESERVE

A selection of cars from an amazing private collection is being auctioned by Silverstone Auctions at their forthcoming sale on the 26th to 28th July at the historic Silverstone Classic race meeting.
Seventeen cars are being offered, all at No Reserve and each car has a unique history. This is an opportunity to purchase a special car from a Gentleman’s Private Collection.
Amongst those being offered, is a show-stopping 1973 Citroen DS Super 5. This car has won multiple Concours trophies since 1987 whilst in the ownership of the second owner. Presented in Blanc Meije with Red Targa upholstery and in right-hand drive, it has had just two previous owners, the first being the CEO of the supplying Citroen dealership. As part of its numerous show successes, the car featured prominently at the Paris Concours and Citroen World Championship, plus it has also appeared on both Top Gear and Fifth Gear television programmes. Now offered for sale in Citroen’s centenary year, this car has a huge amount of supporting documentation and is such an important car, it has been offered a permanent place in Citroen’s national museum in France.
One of several BMWs being offered from the collection is this exceptional 1975 1602 with just 3,055 miles on the clock. The car was bought new on the 1st January and remained in the possession of the first owner until 2016 when it was sold and has since spent its time as part of a large private collection. It is presented in Schwarz with a Cream leather and cord interior and a history file which includes the full book pack, sales brochure, Haynes Manual, a copy of the original V5. The tax disc and leather key ring are supplied in their original paper bag.
For those wishing to have some Italian flavour on their driveway or indeed in their own collection, a low mileage 1991 Ferrari Testarossa is being offered with an indicated 15,180 miles. A true eighties icon finished in the classic colour combination of Rosso with Crema and Rosso carpets, comes with accompanying paperwork and is in fabulous condition. The Testarossa is being prepared for sale by respected Ferraris specialists, Bob Houghton, to include belts, service, clutch and a new MOT.
For a real classic and an original car, is a well-travelled early airflow 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina that has been to California and New Zealand. Whilst on its travels and in New Zealand, the car underwent an 8-stage recommissioning in 2013, which was well documented with the focus on retaining its originality. Upon returning to the UK the car has been inspected by specialist Andy Middlehurst who confirms the originality of this car. Prior to the sale the Lotus Cortina will have an oil and filter service, an MOT and be road tested.
Everyone has a soft spot for a bit Group B rallying and in order for a manufacturer to contest this high-powered category, they had to build a run of Homologation cars. These in turn, spawned further limited editions and in Lancia’s case it created two versions of its HF Delta Integrale, the Evo 1 and Evo 2 and based on the Evo 2 came the Evoluzione 2 Bianco Perlato of which just 365 were made. Dated from 1994 this car was delivered new to Italy before it was imported to the UK in 1998. Whilst it has been part of this collection the car has had little use but does have plenty of history detailing the work that has been carried out on the car during its 108,000km.
These are just five cars from this Gentleman’s Collection, the remaining twelve cars are equally fascinating and include six different low mileage Mercedes-Benz, the earliest being a 12,000 mile 1972 280 SE 3.5 Saloon and the more recent a 14,000 mile 1995 SL60 AMG. A low mileage 1999 BMW Z3 M Roadster in sparkling condition and a rare 2008 Bentley Arnage 500T which is considered one of the last real Bentleys. Others include a 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 S with just 9,000 miles and a 1992 Volkswagen Golf GTi Sportline with just shy of 21,000 miles. All of these cars are also at No Reserve and will form part of the sale at the Silverstone Classic.
The Silverstone Classic Auction takes place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July 2019 offering an exclusive selection of classic cars, sports cars and supercars and automobilia. The lots can be previewed on the 26th July from 09.00 to 18.00 Silverstone Auctions are accepting cars for their Silverstone Classic auction and can be contacted on 01926 691141 or email enquiries@silverstoneauctions.com and would be happy to talk with you and help you through the process of consigning your car.

GROUP B METRO 6R4 WITH JUST 7 MILES HEADS TO AUCTION

GROUP B METRO 6R4 WITH JUST 7 MILES HEADS TO AUCTION

A remarkable Group B Metro 6R4 with just 7 miles on the odometer is heading to Silverstone Auctions sale on the 26th to 28th July at the Silverstone Classic.
The legend that is Group B rallying, which sadly came to a premature end on the 31stDecember 1986 due to a number of fatalities, the most notable being Henri Toivonen, generated some truly remarkable rally cars. One of which was the Metro 6R4, (6 cylinder Rally 4 wheel-drive).
This particular car is the closest you will probably get to owning a virtually new and unregistered car, being #189 of only 200 made.
Originally bought by an enthusiast, who we believe wasn’t a competitor, direct from the Austin Rover Group Ltd on the 5th December 1986, the car was transported to his home in Oxfordshire where rather than compete with it he kept it tucked away for many years in its delivery state, coated in factory wax.
In 1996 the original owner contacted Kevin Wheatcroft at the Donington Museum where the car was offered on a long-term basis to be exhibited. The 6R4 then spent the next seven years at the museum before it was sold in 2002 to the current vendor when the mileage was just five miles.
The current vendor has cared for the car over the last 17 years and the additional two miles have come about from running the car and drivetrain on stands. He is now offering the car for sale, still presented in its original state with the bolt on panels, such as the wings, still remaining in their original unpainted GRP state. Included in the sale is the Assembly Manual, all the purchase correspondence, photographs and letters from the original owner to the Donington Museum.
This Metro 6R4 is effectively an “out-of-the-box”, brand new car and could possibly be prepared for rallies or rallycross, but with this incredible story and such minimal miles, this could be the only one in the world in this condition and therefore who knows where its future value may lie.
The Silverstone Classic Auction takes place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th July 2019 offering an exclusive selection of classic cars, sports cars and supercars, including automobilia and luxury watches. The lots can be previewed on the 25th July 2019 from 13.30 to 18.30 and on the 26th July from 09.00 to 18.00.
Silverstone Auctions are accepting cars for their Silverstone Classic auction and can be contacted on 01926 691141 or email enquiries@silverstoneauctions.com and would be happy to talk with you and help you through the process of consigning your car.

Extremely well maintained and finished in Radiance Red with a Black Nappa leather interior, the paintwork has been fully protected and the alloys refurbished. This Jaguar has formed part of a private collection where it has been kept in regulated storage. It has been recently serviced and estimated at £7,000 to £9,000.

This 1994 car is one of those sold new to Japan and returned to the UK in 2006, it comes with an extensive history file in Japanese!
