A SUPERB SELECTION OF MODERN AND BEST OF BREED CLASSICS TO BE OFFERED AT NEC SHOW

The Silverstone Auctions catalogue for their auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show has added some superb modern classics that will certainly rally the buyers and set the pulses racing.

A fine selection of Subarus are being offered synonymous with rallying and home heroes Colin McRae and Richard Burns, they have an incredibly low mileage WRX STi and an Impreza Richard Burns edition with an added extra. Also consigned are a BMW 325i Sport, a car which is quickly becoming a desirable classic, a 1991 Peugeot 205 GTi, plus two great classics, a 1959 Austin Healy Sprite and a 1972 Ford Escort Twin Cam.

Where do you start when we talk about Subarus? For any motorsport enthusiast, it will always be the 555 liveried cars of Colin McRae and Richard Burns, both who are sadly not with us, but their legacy (excuse the pun) lives on. Silverstone Auctions have two very special cars, the first has an incredible 110 miles on the clock from new. The 2017 WRX STI Final Edition was the last of the line for the famous marque model, with just 150 made for the UK market, this virtually as new car represents an amazing opportunity harking back to the days of Subarus rally successes. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 with a valid five year warranty and a main dealer service at 99 miles, what an opportunity.

How about a 2007 Subaru Impreza RB320 where the first owner was none other than Robert Reid, who was Richard Burn’s co-driver and won the 2001 World Championship together. They were a very successful pairing, coming runners up in 1999 and 2000, their partnership ran for 12 years. Our vendor is the second owner of this car which has just 1,400 miles on the clock and also comes with a spare rear spoiler which has been signed by some of the greatest legends in rallying and motorsport in general such as Carlos Sainz, Malcolm Wilson, Petter Solberg, Ove Anderson, Hannu Mikkola and even Colin McRae and Robert Reid. The list of names is amazing, so many we can’t mention them all but well worth taking note of. This very special RB320 is estimated at £30,000 to £35,000 and is your chance to own a car built to celebrate a British World Rally Champion and once owned by his World Championship winning co-driver.

Recent sales have shown that the BMW 325i Sport E30 model has sparked a lot of interest and buyers are beginning to focus on this superb model as M3s become rarer to acquire. This 1991 BMW 325i Sport has just 6,794 verifiable miles on the clock and when it was bought in 2007 it had just 5,200. This has got to be one for the serious BMW collector, fitted with numerous M-Tech upgrades, special order Granitsilber Metallic paint and is one of the later face-lifted M Technic 2 models it is estimated at £30,000 to £35,000. A fabulous investment for this well stored and serviced BMW.

Hot hatches of the 90s are well documented and always stir many memories. VW versus Peugeot versus Ford, who actually came out top is probably down to personal preference. But when they come to market excellent cars tend not to hang around. This 1991 Peugeot 205 GTi is one of those. A 1.9 which has been cherished over the years, finished in Cherry Red and with all the service invoices back to the first in August 1991. Estimated at £15,000 to £18,000 this is a very desirable car with just 35,083 miles from new and in excellent condition.

If classics are more your thing, they have two really superb cars. The first is the 1959 Austin Healey Sprite MK1 which has undergone a full restoration to the most exacting standards. It could be said it is better than the day it originally left Abingdon. Estimated at £22,000 to £26,000, this Frog Eye as they were known due to their cheeky appearance, was an unfinished restoration project that had stalled when it was sold to Memory Lane Classics who are making a name for themselves with these cars. They set about the most detailed restoration, which we have outlined on our website, it is almost like new and is a fantastic opportunity for such a characterful car.

Our next classic fits in well with some of our other cars listed, as it is well known for its success in rallying, a 1972 Ford Escort Twin Cam. This car may have been one of the development cars, built but never used, sadly as with a lot of Ford’s records from this time the history files have been destroyed. However, this car is simply wonderful. In the early years, it was used for club level rallying before it was taken off the road from 1984 to 2012. Entrusted to RS guru Kerry Sealey it underwent a total restoration before being sold in 2013 to the current vendor. The detail of the car is fantastic with many original parts and features including the Avanti map reading light.

Estimates at £50,000 to £60,000 with a fresh MOT, 47,439 indicated miles, this is an excellent Escort Twin Cam from a period when they were the rally cars.

FUN, FUNKY, FRUGAL CLASSICS BEING OFFERED AT CLASSIC CAR AUCTIONS ON THE 5TH OCTOBER

Classic Car Auctions have among their lots at the forthcoming auction on the 5th October a selection of what could be described as fun and funky yet frugal classics.

One of the stand out cars is from the 1970s, a 1972 Fiat 500 Gamine by Vignale. Scoring extremely highly on the condition report, this small two-seater is based on the Fiat 500 was produced by Carozzeria Vignale. Now fully restored by a London specialist and presented in bright red with beige interior, with the mileage is indicated at 27,637 miles. Estimated at £22,000 to £26,000 this is a much sought after and trendy UK right-hand drive car.

In 1988 Wolfgang Hoffman took the Citroen 2CV and developed a series of kits which are still available today. The designs varied from a pickup to a limousine. What we have here being offered in the sale is a 1984 Citroen 2CV Hoffman Cabrio which could be one of two left in the UK and possibly only 1,700 in the world. The kit came in the form of a glass-reinforced plastic body with steel fame side windows and a convertible soft-top and boot lid. The vendor of this car has used it has her daily driver over the last three years and has just had it serviced ready for the next owner. Estimated at £8,000 to £10,000 this is an unusual take on the classic 2CV.

The Roaring Twenties was the era of large scale adoption of cars and the General Motors group introduced the Pontiac brand in 1926 offering a cheaper range of six-cylinder cars. This 1928 6-28 2-door Sedan has the 25hp, 3050cc straight-six with an L Head and was to become the most popular in the range. Finished in Forest Green with a fabric roof and 12 spoke wooden wheels this is a fascinating car at an estimated £8,000 to £10,000.

Now moving on to the 1930s we have what is believed to be called a Speedy, a 1934 Austin 7 Special which had been exported to New Zealand and has undergone complete restoration prior to arriving back in the UK. The interior has been re-trimmed and the body has been re-painted red. Estimated at £10,000 to £12,000 this little open-top tourer will be UK registered in time for the sale.

Our second Austin is the 1936 10 Tourer which was restored 15 to 20 years ago and features a fully functioning Dickie seat and a good soft-top. Estimated at £7,000 to £9,000 this is a great pre-war open-top tourer and an inexpensive way into classic car ownership.

The third of our Austins takes us to the 1970s and this 1974 Austin Mini Clubman is a real find with just 12,000 indicated miles. With just two registered owners and in almost completely original condition having been stored for most of its life, this little gem is being offered at an estimated £7,500 to £9,500. The interior remains as new and the bodywork and mechanicals have been refreshed and now ready for its next owner.

1983 Ferrari 308 GTS QV

This weekend Silverstone Auctions will be holding their marque dedicated sale for Ferrari and Porsche at the Dallas Burston Polo Club with superb examples of 34 Ferraris and 32 Porsches in each of the sales.

Held in association with the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain and Porsche Club GB some fine examples of sports cars are being offered with limited editions and limited production runs starting in this weekends sale.

Of the 34 Ferraris being offered this car is what many consider to be the most desirable of all the 308s, the GTS Quattrovalvole. Made famous by Tom Selleck in Magnum PI, this is your chance to acquire a limited production run of just 233 UK supplied right-hand drive cars. This superb UK supplied in 1983 Ferrari has been in the same family for the last 27 years having been purchased in 1992 and passed from father to son. The father used the car until 2000 when the car was then placed in long term storage until 2018. It was at this time that they decided to recommission the car at a cost of £24,000 and now giving a great driving experience for the next owner at and estimated £50,000 to £60,000.

Our second Ferrari is the successor to the 308 we have just talked about. This is the 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS and built in the final year of its production which started in 1985. This is one of 292 UK supplied right-hand drive cars in the classic Rosso Corsa with Crema hide interior and has just 17,000 miles on the clock. The car is currently in the possession of Silverstone Auctions and is really worth seeing if you are thinking of purchasing this car and would like a private viewing. It is in stunning condition and accompanied by its owner’s manuals, tool kit and interesting history file. Estimated at £75,000 to £85,000 and coming from a significant private collection this is a rare version of a low mileage classic Ferrari.

Now turning our attention to the Porsche sale which follows on from the Ferrari sale, we have some superb lots which include this 1988 Supersport Cabriolet. One of just 39 examples produced for the UK market in right-hand drive, this Guards Red Porsche with an unusual interior which was chosen from the Special Wishes Programme, Linen leather and other additions including a gold embellished gear knob and to differentiate it even further it features the front air dam and side skirts which were dealer-fitted from a 930 SE. The list of features on this car is endless, but it does feature the very desirable manual G50 gearbox which was fitted in the final three years of the car’s production. At an estimated £48,000 to £55,000 this really is an even rarer version of the Supersport Cabriolet with its Special Wishes options and the 930 SE aerodynamic kit.

Our final car in this release is the 1988 Porsche 928 S4 Sports Equipment estimated at £33,000 to £38,000. Only 42 of these cars were for the UK market and this one was purchased new by Formula One driver Tom Belso who raced for Frank Williams Racing Cars in 1973 and 1974 and owned for 24 years. The current vendor purchased the car in 2016 and began a programme of works to restore the car to its best using marque specialists and at a cost of £25,000 according to the cars history file. This is a rare car and one for any Porsche collector or enthusiast coming with an interesting provenance.

Silverstone Auctions sale also includes a selection of marque related automobilia which starts at 10.30am. If you are thinking of purchasing a 308 you might like to know about Lot 129 a very rare pair of original cylinder heads. Both cylinder heads are in good condition, complete with cam covers but do not come with the camshafts and one is missing the valves. A very rare component at an estimated £2,700 to £3,150. With many other lots offering automobilia for both Ferrari and Porsche enthusiasts there is plenty to get the auction revved up on Saturday.

The Sale of Ferrari and Porsche takes place at the Dallas Burston Polo Club on Saturday 21st September. The auction starts with automobilia at 10.30, followed by the Ferrari sale at 12.30 and Porsche at 2.30. The lots can be previewed on Friday the 20th September from 1pm to 5pm.

A selection of cars from an amazing private collection is being auctioned by Silverstone Auctions at their forthcoming sale on the 26th to 28th July at the historic Silverstone Classic race meeting.

Seventeen cars are being offered, all at No Reserve and each car has a unique history. This is an opportunity to purchase a special car from a Gentleman’s Private Collection.

Amongst those being offered, is a show-stopping 1973 Citroen DS Super 5. This car has won multiple Concours trophies since 1987 whilst in the ownership of the second owner. Presented in Blanc Meije with Red Targa upholstery and in right-hand drive, it has had just two previous owners, the first being the CEO of the supplying Citroen dealership. As part of its numerous show successes, the car featured prominently at the Paris Concours and Citroen World Championship, plus it has also appeared on both Top Gear and Fifth Gear television programmes. Now offered for sale in Citroen’s centenary year, this car has a huge amount of supporting documentation and is such an important car, it has been offered a permanent place in Citroen’s national museum in France.

One of several BMWs being offered from the collection is this exceptional 1975 1602 with just 3,055 miles on the clock. The car was bought new on the 1st January and remained in the possession of the first owner until 2016 when it was sold and has since spent its time as part of a large private collection. It is presented in Schwarz with a Cream leather and cord interior and a history file which includes the full book pack, sales brochure, Haynes Manual, a copy of the original V5. The tax disc and leather key ring are supplied in their original paper bag.

For those wishing to have some Italian flavour on their driveway or indeed in their own collection, a low mileage 1991 Ferrari Testarossa is being offered with an indicated 15,180 miles. A true eighties icon finished in the classic colour combination of Rosso with Crema and Rosso carpets, comes with accompanying paperwork and is in fabulous condition. The Testarossa is being prepared for sale by respected Ferraris specialists, Bob Houghton, to include belts, service, clutch and a new MOT.

For a real classic and an original car, is a well-travelled early airflow 1965 Ford Lotus Cortina that has been to California and New Zealand. Whilst on its travels and in New Zealand, the car underwent an 8-stage recommissioning in 2013, which was well documented with the focus on retaining its originality. Upon returning to the UK the car has been inspected by specialist Andy Middlehurst who confirms the originality of this car. Prior to the sale the Lotus Cortina will have an oil and filter service, an MOT and be road tested.

Everyone has a soft spot for a bit Group B rallying and in order for a manufacturer to contest this high-powered category, they had to build a run of Homologation cars. These in turn, spawned further limited editions and in Lancia’s case it created two versions of its HF Delta Integrale, the Evo 1 and Evo 2 and based on the Evo 2 came the Evoluzione 2 Bianco Perlato of which just 365 were made. Dated from 1994 this car was delivered new to Italy before it was imported to the UK in 1998. Whilst it has been part of this collection the car has had little use but does have plenty of history detailing the work that has been carried out on the car during its 108,000km.

These are just five cars from this Gentleman’s Collection, the remaining twelve cars are equally fascinating and include six different low mileage Mercedes-Benz, the earliest being a 12,000 mile 1972 280 SE 3.5 Saloon and the more recent a 14,000 mile 1995 SL60 AMG. A low mileage 1999 BMW Z3 M Roadster in sparkling condition and a rare 2008 Bentley Arnage 500T which is considered one of the last real Bentleys. Others include a 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 S with just 9,000 miles and a 1992 Volkswagen Golf GTi Sportline with just shy of 21,000 miles. All of these cars are also at No Reserve and will form part of the sale at the Silverstone Classic.

RM Sotheby’s has announced an early featured highlight for its flagship Monterey sale – a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta, offered without reserve.

Chassis no. 3359 GT, with coachwork by Scaglietti, is one of only 40 steel body SWB Berlinettas built in the final production run during 1962, exhibiting the desirable aesthetic distinctions of the late-production cars. A model only made available to Ferrari’s top clients in the period, the SWB was the predecessor to the legendary 250 GTO as one of the ultimate high-speed Gran Turismo cars which could be driven to the track, win a race, and then driven home. This particular car was sold new to Giuseppe Chiusolo of Naples, Italy, finished in stunning Grigio Argento over Red Connolly Vaumol leather and equipped with the latest Tipo 168/61 V-12 engine, Abarth exhaust, and Borrani wire wheels.

The Ferrari passed through a handful of additional Italian owners before eventually landing with Mike Fisher of the UK in the early 1970s, making its way to the U.S. later that decade, where it competed in a handful of historic racing events. Fast forward to the 1990s and the car returned to Europe, where it participated in five editions of the Tour Auto. In 2010, the Ferrari was acquired by noted Swiss collector Jean-Pierre Slavic, who commissioned its complete restoration, overseen by Ferrari Classiche and carried out by the experts at Carrozzeria Autosport of Modena, and Autofficina Bonini of Cadelbosco, an official Ferrari service agent. 

Following restoration, chassis no. 3359 GT received the lauded Ferrari Classiche Certification, complete with the coveted Red Book, attesting to the car’s authenticity. In 2012, it was invited to the exclusive Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, where it received the Mention of Honour award in the competitive Ferrari 250 Dynasty Class. Now under American ownership, the SWB is presented in exceptional condition at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale, 15-17 August, as one of the finest examples of the model and a must-have in any collection of the world’s best sports and GT cars. 

The Ferrari 250 GT SWB carries a pre-sale estimate of $8,000,000 - $10,000,000 and is offered without reserve at RM Sotheby’s three-day Monterey sale this summer.

Classic Car Auctions sale on the 25th May at the Warwickshire Event Centre will see a number of British powerhouses going under the hammer from Bentley, Aston Martin, Jaguar and MG.

A combined 20.1 litres of British muscle from a Continental Mulliner GT, DB7 V12 Vantage Coupe, an XJR and an MG RV8 will get you all revved up and raring to go as these impressive cars vie for new homes.

Bentleys give you wings and this 6.0 litre W12 twin-turbo Bentley Continental GT Mulliner will certainly do that! Presented in Diamond Black with a Porpoise Grey and diamond-quilted St.James Red leather interior styled by Mulliner, this 33,553-mile luxury motor will waft you around in style and elegance. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 this stunning car comes with an extensive history file and a fresh service prior to the sale.

The Aston Martin DB7 V12 Vantage Coupe is an elegant luxury GT and this 2001 model is presented in Tour de France Blue with a Pacific Grey leather interior. It was supplied new by Aston Martin Stratstone and has had four owners who have covered 76,200 miles. It comes with a partial history and the first 10 years of stamps from the supplying dealer. Estimated at £24,000 to £28,000.

Our next powerhouse comes in the form of a 2005 Jaguar XJR with a 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine. Extremely well maintained and finished in Radiance Red with a Black Nappa leather interior, the paintwork has been fully protected and the alloys refurbished. This Jaguar has formed part of a private collection where it has been kept in regulated storage. It has been recently serviced and estimated at £7,000 to £9,000.

A large proportion of MG RV8s went to Japan, though quite a few were re-imported back to the UK. This 1994 car is one of those sold new to Japan and returned to the UK in 2006, it comes with an extensive history file in Japanese! Displaying approximately 53,000 miles on the clock and with the current owner for the last three years, this car is presented well in Woodcote Green. Freshly serviced in April, it is now offered with an estimate of £15,000 to £18,000.

Silverstone Auctions sale at Heythrop Park on the 11th May will feature amongst its lots some quirky and famous cars from the world of motoring.

Leading the quirky and famous charge in the British Marques sale is the Mini Cooper Sport owned by Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, with the very unusual Bentley S1 Pickup and in the Heythrop sale is the Excalibur SS formerly owned by film star Tony Curtis with a Honda’s revvy little sportscar the S800.

The first sale of the day at Heythrop is the Classic Car sale which includes Tony Curtis’ 1965 Excalibur SS, the sixth edition built and bought brand new by the film actor. The car was then bought directly from Tony Curtis by philanthropist David S. Gilmore for the Gilmore Car Museum in Michigan where it was on display for forty-years. In 2008 the car was imported to the UK after being purchased by the current vendor for his collection. The car is presented in superb unrestored condition with just under 6,500 miles, with the current vendor covering just 200 miles whilst in his ownership. The car is offered at £65,000 to £75,000 with a file that contains all the provenance records, a signed copy of Tony Curtis’ autobiography in which he proudly lists his car collection, with the Excalibur namechecked.

Arwel Richards, Auction Manager for the Heythrop sale commented: "The Excalibur ticks every box; chassis number six, owned new by acting legend Tony Curtis, forty-years in a museum, low mileage and unrestored!"

"Excaliburs rarely come to market and the SS Series 1 is by far the rarest model, making it very desirable for the collector. We're anticipating strong interest from America and our international bidding platform naturally makes it easier for overseas bidders to get in involved."

In 1965 Honda produced the next generation of its rev-for-ever little sports car, the S800. This particular car is a 1967 righthand drove model which underwent a full body off restoration between 2014 and 2017 and the engine was overhauled by a former Rolls-Royce engineer. Looks to be in a smart condition and comes from careful ownership. The Honda is being offered at £15,000 to £20,000.

In the British Marques auction is the 2000 Mini Cooper Sport owned by Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay. Affectionately known as “Chuckles”, this is no ordinary Mini. It comes with Chesterfield upholstery, red velvet roof lining and curtains, a disco light and to top it all off a “mini bar” in the boot! With just under 16,000 miles this Mini will certainly help you stand out from the crowd and is offered at no reserve.

And for something even more quirky a 1956 Bentley S1 Pickup. Originally purchased new as a Bentley S1 Saloon, the car was sold and went to Australia where it underwent conversion into a utility vehicle and painted Banana Yellow. The car returned to the UK in 2012 and has since formed part of the current vendor’s private collection. It is not the UK registered, but all taxes have been paid and what could be the poshest Ute is now offered at £25,000 to £30,000.

In the automobilia sale, there are 109 lots ranging from watches, pictures and even fuel pumps and traffic lights.

Following on with our famous, fun and quirky we have the multi-signed 60s helmet once owned by Roy Turner who had Andy Cap, the Daily Mirror comic strip, painted on it and then sought the autographs of John Surtees, Jackie Stewart, Mike Spence, Chris Amon, Bruce Mclaren, Tony Lanfranchi and Denny Hulme. Now for sale estimated at £800 to £1,200.

To celebrate a historical moment in hill climbing, a poster from Shelsley Walsh’s Classic Nostalgia in 2016, with autographs from the race and rally legends Hans Stuck, Mike Broad, Russell Brookes, Jimmy McRae, Neil Wilson, Ian Grindrod and motorsport journalist Nigel Roebuck. Estimated at £200 to £400.

For the classic car restorer or enthusiast is the Wolseley 12-48 front grille, complete and in sound condition with cap and badge wiring, but in need of restoration for £100 to £150.

And now for the fun, the ultimate accessory for any man cave, your own set of traffic lights complete with remote control. Fully functioning and with wall mounting brackets, could be yours for £400 to £600.

The Heythrop and British Marques sale is a one day sale with a viewing of the lots on Friday 10th May from 09:00 until 17:00 and on the morning of Saturday 11th May 2019.

FINE EUROPEAN CLASSICS OFFERED IN HEYTHROP AUCTION ON THE 11th MAY

1975 BMW 3.0 CSi (E9) Coupe

Stunning and rare European Classics are being offered at the Silverstone Auction on the 11th May at Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire.

A pair of superb BMW CSi, a trio of the mid-1960s and early 1970s Mercedes, a very rare early 2001 Porsche 911 GT2 Clubsport and a splendid 1998 Ferrari 550 Maranello are just some of the exotic that will be looking for new homes.

The first of the two BMWs is the 1975 3.0 CSi (E9) Coupe number 43 of 207 right-hand drive cars built during the final two years of production. The current vendor had the car restored by Classic Legends with a full mechanical overhaul and a bare metal respray in Turkish Blue and a retrimmed and restored interior. The final bill was a little over £22,000. This is now a superb example and very sensibly guided at £40,000 to £45,000 and may well turn out to be a wise investment.

Our second BMW 3.0 CSi is a left-hand drive version first registered in 1973 and delivered to a Berlin dealership. Later in its lifetime, it underwent a respray in its original colour, Atlantic Blue and some light restoration before it became part of a private collection until now where it is being offered for sale with just under 84,000km on the clock. A timeless classic estimated at £40,000 to £46,000.

The Mercedes of the 60s and 70s had such a classic appearance and the first of our trio is the 1964 220 SEb fixed head Coupe. The UK supplied a car in September 1964 and currently with its sixth owner, was subjected to a comprehensive restoration between 2009 and 2011 and resprayed in its original colour scheme of Burgundy with a contrasting black roof. The current vendor has owned the car since 2013 forming part of his small collection of classic cars and now offered at £27,000 to £30,000.

The second of our Mercedes is the 1965 600 SWB originally delivered new to Australia. It was first registered in the UK in 2008 to the first of its two UK registered keepers. This car has been meticulously maintained with over £30,000 of bills, impeccable maintenance records and a recent service from model specialist Wolfgang Wills of Germany. Believed to be 1 of only 273 right-hand drive cars produced, this is an exquisite car and offered by television actor and Mercedes enthusiast Gary Mavers at £75,000 to £85,000. This is fast becoming a collectable classic.

The third of our Mercedes is the 1971 280SE 3.5 V8 Coupe presented in Silver with Black leather interior, formerly owned by television actor and Mercedes enthusiast Gary Mavers who carried out some restoration work. Further work was carried out in 2017 with the car now in excellent condition and just over 46,500 miles this is a discreet and powerful coupe estimated at £60,000 to £70,000.

In 2001 Porsche launched their most extreme version of the 911 (996), the GT2, with only 129 coming to the UK and of those just 17 were Clubsports. This is one super rare 2001 car aimed for both the racetrack and for the road. It comes with an impressive history file detailing all the options chosen for the car and its previous owners. The car has completed just 1,000 miles in the last three years with a total of 56,738 miles during its lifetime. This car is so special and now offered by the current vendor from his private collection of special cars at £90,000 to £110,00.

Of the Ferraris offered in the sale, this 1998 550 Maranello is a fine example of a V12 European Grand Tourer. Supplied new to a director of Newcastle United Football Club in August 1998, this car has clearly been well cared for over the years, as it comes with a complete service record and wealth of invoices from main agents and marque specialists. This is a lovely example of the last of these hand-built Ferraris and offered at £90,000 to £100,000 an opportunity not to be missed.
