A SUPERB SELECTION OF MODERN AND BEST OF BREED CLASSICS TO BE OFFERED AT NEC SHOW

The Silverstone Auctions catalogue for their auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show has added some superb modern classics that will certainly rally the buyers and set the pulses racing.

A fine selection of Subarus are being offered synonymous with rallying and home heroes Colin McRae and Richard Burns, they have an incredibly low mileage WRX STi and an Impreza Richard Burns edition with an added extra. Also consigned are a BMW 325i Sport, a car which is quickly becoming a desirable classic, a 1991 Peugeot 205 GTi, plus two great classics, a 1959 Austin Healy Sprite and a 1972 Ford Escort Twin Cam.

Where do you start when we talk about Subarus? For any motorsport enthusiast, it will always be the 555 liveried cars of Colin McRae and Richard Burns, both who are sadly not with us, but their legacy (excuse the pun) lives on. Silverstone Auctions have two very special cars, the first has an incredible 110 miles on the clock from new. The 2017 WRX STI Final Edition was the last of the line for the famous marque model, with just 150 made for the UK market, this virtually as new car represents an amazing opportunity harking back to the days of Subarus rally successes. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 with a valid five year warranty and a main dealer service at 99 miles, what an opportunity.

How about a 2007 Subaru Impreza RB320 where the first owner was none other than Robert Reid, who was Richard Burn’s co-driver and won the 2001 World Championship together. They were a very successful pairing, coming runners up in 1999 and 2000, their partnership ran for 12 years. Our vendor is the second owner of this car which has just 1,400 miles on the clock and also comes with a spare rear spoiler which has been signed by some of the greatest legends in rallying and motorsport in general such as Carlos Sainz, Malcolm Wilson, Petter Solberg, Ove Anderson, Hannu Mikkola and even Colin McRae and Robert Reid. The list of names is amazing, so many we can’t mention them all but well worth taking note of. This very special RB320 is estimated at £30,000 to £35,000 and is your chance to own a car built to celebrate a British World Rally Champion and once owned by his World Championship winning co-driver.

Recent sales have shown that the BMW 325i Sport E30 model has sparked a lot of interest and buyers are beginning to focus on this superb model as M3s become rarer to acquire. This 1991 BMW 325i Sport has just 6,794 verifiable miles on the clock and when it was bought in 2007 it had just 5,200. This has got to be one for the serious BMW collector, fitted with numerous M-Tech upgrades, special order Granitsilber Metallic paint and is one of the later face-lifted M Technic 2 models it is estimated at £30,000 to £35,000. A fabulous investment for this well stored and serviced BMW.

Hot hatches of the 90s are well documented and always stir many memories. VW versus Peugeot versus Ford, who actually came out top is probably down to personal preference. But when they come to market excellent cars tend not to hang around. This 1991 Peugeot 205 GTi is one of those. A 1.9 which has been cherished over the years, finished in Cherry Red and with all the service invoices back to the first in August 1991. Estimated at £15,000 to £18,000 this is a very desirable car with just 35,083 miles from new and in excellent condition.

If classics are more your thing, they have two really superb cars. The first is the 1959 Austin Healey Sprite MK1 which has undergone a full restoration to the most exacting standards. It could be said it is better than the day it originally left Abingdon. Estimated at £22,000 to £26,000, this Frog Eye as they were known due to their cheeky appearance, was an unfinished restoration project that had stalled when it was sold to Memory Lane Classics who are making a name for themselves with these cars. They set about the most detailed restoration, which we have outlined on our website, it is almost like new and is a fantastic opportunity for such a characterful car.

Our next classic fits in well with some of our other cars listed, as it is well known for its success in rallying, a 1972 Ford Escort Twin Cam. This car may have been one of the development cars, built but never used, sadly as with a lot of Ford’s records from this time the history files have been destroyed. However, this car is simply wonderful. In the early years, it was used for club level rallying before it was taken off the road from 1984 to 2012. Entrusted to RS guru Kerry Sealey it underwent a total restoration before being sold in 2013 to the current vendor. The detail of the car is fantastic with many original parts and features including the Avanti map reading light.

Estimates at £50,000 to £60,000 with a fresh MOT, 47,439 indicated miles, this is an excellent Escort Twin Cam from a period when they were the rally cars.

 RM Sotheby’s is proud to present a diverse group of modern and future classics dubbed ‘The Forests Collection’ at its annual London sale, with all proceeds going to the Trillion Trees initiative, a charitable partnership whose mission is to connect funders with forest conservation ventures, and inspire the world to protect and restore one trillion trees by 2050. The Trillion Trees initiative combines the efforts of the World Wide Fund for Nature, BirdLife International, and the Wildlife Conservation Society, three of the world’s largest conservation organisations with a presence in over 100 countries. The Forests Collection, generously donated by a single benefactor, will be presented on 24 October at Olympia in West Kensington, a new venue for the RM Sotheby’s London auction. A stunning Porsche 911 GT3 and a classic Meyers Manx dune buggy join two icons of British design, a Mini Cooper and a Land Rover Defender, in addition to a sought-after BMW E30 M3 as highlights of the charity collection.

It is hoped that the generous charitable gesture of the owner will raise in excess of £480,000 when the cars go under the hammer in London, allowing the restoration of over 400 hectares of forests across Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Uganda which will result in an estimated 300,000 mature trees. RM Sotheby’s is delighted to be supporting Trillion Trees and its mission to secure a sustainable future for forthcoming generations, and as such, every single pound of the winning bid will be pledged to the cause, including the seller’s premium. The Forests Collection represents the latest consignments for the London sale, which will offer in excess of 80 fine collector cars.  

The Forests Collection is headlined by a stunning 2018 Porsche 911 GT3, a sensational homage to Porsche’s competition heritage, with the example on offer presented in Paint-to-Sample Sepia Brown, a colour made famous on 911s of the 1970s. Delivered to its first and only owner in April 2018, this 991.2-generation GT3 boasts a number of desirable options, including a manual gearbox, Alcantara upholstered lightweight bucket seats, Clubsport package, and black 20-inch GT3 centre-lock wheels. Since leaving the Porsche factory in Stuttgart last year, the GT3 has covered just under 1,500km and is presented for sale in ‘as new’ condition (Estimate: £130,000-£160,000). Completing a trio of lovely 911s to be offered from the collection is a 996-generation 2000 Porsche 911 GT3 finished in silver and with only 70,000km covered from new (Estimate: £50,000-£60,000) and an amazing 2001 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Racecar, built to N-GT specification, presented as the perfect track day tool (Estimate: £140,000-£180,000).

An American icon, the 1970 Meyers Manx embodies the go-anywhere, do-anything Southern California spirit of its creator, Bruce F. Meyers. Based on Volkswagen Beetle underpinnings, the combination of purpose-built off-road ability and lightweight construction allowed the Manx to dominate the overland racing scene of the 1960s. This Manx, presented in vibrant metallic orange, stays true to the brightly coloured examples of the period. Thanks to a remarkable $60,000 restoration, no expense has been spared to ensure that this buggy is one of the finest in existence. A three-spoke EMPI steering wheel and original Gene Berg short-shifter, linked to a new four-speed rancho transmission, make driving enjoyable, spirited, and direct. The EMPI skid plate, sand seal-protected flywheel, and seatbelts for all passengers mean that this buggy is ready to play in the dunes, while the wiring for lights makes the Manx compliant for road use as well (Estimate: £35,000-£45,000).

In addition, the collection includes a 1998 Mini Cooper, finished in turquoise and having covered fewer than 50,000km from new (Estimate: £15,000-£20,000). A 2013 Land Rover Defender 90 is presented in red with a canvas roof covering the rear and fewer than 12,000km since it left the factory (Estimate: £40,000-£60,000). A 1991 BMW E30 M3, regarded as one of the finest performance saloon cars ever made, is in a sensational specification, sporting a white exterior complemented by a black interior, and just 55,000 miles recorded from new (Estimate: £45,000-£65,000). The 1993 Mazda RX-7 on offer boasts its famous rotary engine and a classic design, enhanced by beautiful black paintwork. This US-spec example is for sale with fewer than 50,000 miles (Estimate: £15,000-£20,000). Bidders who are looking for two wheels rather than four will be interested in the 2016 Harley Davidson Low Rider S, presented here in black with gold wheels (Estimate: £10,000-£15,000).

MODERN AND EVERYMAN CLASSICS AT CCA SALE IN OCTOBER 

1991 Porsche 928 GT

Classic Car Auctions forthcoming sale is offering some great modern and Everyman classics at their October sale on the 5^th October at the Warwickshire Event Centre.

Two fabulous British classics being offered are a 1969 Mini Cooper Mk2 and a 1966 Morris Minor Series V alongside two Bavarian bruisers, a cherished and rare Porsche 928 GT and a BMW Z3M.

The ultimate Porsche 928 is coming to market and this one is special. It is one of 38 right-hand drive GTs and this 1991 edition is finished in the popular colour choice of Guards Red which has been colour corrected and ceramic coated. This 5.0-litre powerhouse has had one previous owner and been with the current one since 2008.

Estimated at £25,000 to £30,000 this is a very smart Porsche which has been clearly cherished and maintained with just 120,000 miles. With a recent timing belt change and other mechanical works to be done prior to the sale it also comes with a spreadsheet to include some history, MOTs and other works. These are rare and sought after cars and will no doubt be a popular car on sale day.

 1969 Austin Mini Cooper Mk II

With Mini celebrating its 60^th birthday, this is a great year to acquire one of Britain’s most famous small cars. CCA have a lovely 1969 Austin Mini Cooper Mk2, matching numbers and sympathetically restored car. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 this is a well-prepared car featuring a new Webasto vinyl roof and refinished in its original colours of Island Blue and contrasting Snowberry White roof. This car has been with the current owner since 2010 and comes with detailed history from this point, along with a Heritage Certificate. These are very popular cars and this one will make a great purchase.

Another great British classic is the Morris Minor and what a superb example CCA have got in their sale. Offered at £5,000 to £7,000 this final version 1966 series V looks superb in Birch Grey with a red interior and with 37,000 miles on the clock. This 1098cc car has had just three former keepers and comes with old MOTs dating back to 2000 and will be supplied with a fresh one prior to sale. A great entry-level classic, one not to be missed.

Introduced in 1998 the BMW Z3M Roadster took BMWs little two-seater to a new level with production only running until 2002. CCA have a great early version, finished in Estoril Blue with blue and black Nappa leather interior this 3.2-litre S50 engine car comes with just under 97,000 miles on the clock and an MOT. Sensibly guided at £8,000 to £10,000 this is a great opportunity into M-Sport ownership.

 RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to reveal the final entry for its record-setting Monterey sale, history’s most revered modern supercar, a 1994 McLaren F1 ‘LM-Specification’, serial no. 018.

The McLaren F1 is that rare supercar that knows no critic. From its aesthetics, technical merit, and competition record, the model is nothing short of perfect in the eyes of collectors around the world. McLaren built just 64 production examples of the F1 road car, and they have enjoyed favored ownership among the world’s most discriminating collectors, celebrated as a design that is particularly rewarding to drive.

Developed initially solely as a road car, McLaren was encouraged to go racing by enthusiastic F1 owners. Following the F1 GTR’s incredible success on the track at Le Mans and beyond, the manufacturer launched a short batch of five commemorative road-capable cars dubbed the F1 LM. Most notably, these cars were equipped with full-specification, unrestricted GTR racing engines good for 680hp, and a High-Downforce Kit of aerodynamic effects consisting of a revised nose with front fender vents and a huge rear wing. These five cars were rightfully judged to be the most ferocious and desirable of the F1 iterations.

Following completion of the full production run in 1998, McLaren upgraded two “standard” F1 road car examples to LM specifications, also adding an extra high-downforce package that went above and beyond the coachwork effects of the original five LM cars. These two upgraded cars were serial no. 073, which RM Sotheby’s had the honor of selling, and serial no. 018, the car set to headline Friday night at the company’s 2019 Monterey auction. 

 Delivered new to Japan in 1994 and upgraded to LM Specification by McLaren in two rounds in 2000 and 2001, serial no. 018 is finished in stunning platinum silver metallic paint over a cream leather interior highlighted by beige and brown Alcantara, cream Wilton carpets, and a beige Alcantara headliner. In 2007, the F1 ‘LM-Spec’ was acquired by the current owner, an enthusiast and racing connoisseur based in New Zealand. In his 12 years of ownership, the car has been used on a handful of tours and rallies, all the while being fastidiously cared for via the unmatched level of service provided by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), who have overseen the car with their strenuous multi-point evaluation checklist all its life.

 The F1 ‘LM-Spec’ is presented in Monterey in outstanding condition, with a thorough record of regular MSO service and just 21,500 km. Incredibly powerful and rare, 018 is even “estimated to have more downforce than the Le Mans winning 1995 GTR racecar”, according to MSO. Expected to bring $21,000,000 - $23,000,000 when it crosses RM Sotheby’s auction podium in Monterey next month, this car is the best imaginable iteration of an already perfect machine.

The level of ownership exclusivity and “holy grail” admiration associated with the F1 is second only to the Ferrari 250 GTO, making this an excellent follow up to our 2018 sale. It truly is an opportunity not to be missed.”

1993 Vauxhall Lotus Carlton

Modern Classics from the nineties and Young Timers from the noughties to go head to head at CCA May sale at the Warwick Event Centre on the 25th May with classics from BMW, Porsche and a Lotus Carlton.

CCA are offering for sale two BMW M3s from different decades, a 1990s E30 and a 2003 M3 E46 from a private collection, a powerhouse from Vauxhall, the Lotus Carlton and a Porsche 911 Turbo S.

BMW’s M series are famed for their high performance and always generate huge interest when they come on the market. CCA have two cars from two different eras being offered, the first a 1990 E30 left-hand drive originally supplied to Germany and brought to the UK in 2005. Clearly, this car has been cared for by its three previous owners and enjoyed with 120,000 miles on the clock and an extensive history file with a recent service at a BMW main dealer. Estimated at £34,000 to £38,000 this is one of the most topical modern classic saloons on the market in largely original condition.

From the noughties, a 2003 M3 E46 with 38,000 miles and one previous owner finished in Phoenix yellow and immaculately presented. Supplied with all the original books, main dealer stamped book and recent service. Estimated at £24,000 to £28,000 this is a serious car for a serious collector.

The Lotus Carlton, a four-door powerhouse from Vauxhall with the performance of contemporary sports cars, turned heads in the 90s when the car was launched. CCA have number 886, one of the 284 right-hand drive Carltons made was sourced by the current vendor after a lengthy search. A 1993 model with 76,000 miles, this is a highly original car in Imperial Green and sparingly used in recent years. It comes with a comprehensive history file, service binder and assorted invoices. Estimated at £40,000 to £45,000 the car comes with a valid MOT.

Get ready for the summer with a 2003 Porsche 911 (996) Turbo S Cabriolet, cared for by an enthusiast since 2011. Presented in Basalt Black with 41,000 miles, the original books, stamped service record and serviced in October 2018. A seriously powerful car with a few upgrades, this car is ready for the summer and estimated at £36,000 to £42,000.

RM Auctions has released the digital preview catalogue for the company’s 17^th annual Fort Lauderdale sale, 29-30 March, led by a group of modern sports performance and supercars. Regarded as South Florida’s premier collector car auction, the two-day sale—held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center–will feature more than 350 quality collector cars along with a selection of automobilia, ranging from American classics to European sports cars, muscle, hot rods, customs and modern collectables.

Leading the latest high-performance highlights for RM Auctions’ Fort Lauderdale auction are two supercar icons of the 21^st century—a2015 Ferrari LaFerrari and a 2008 Koenigsegg CCX. The LaFerrari, one of just 499 built, is a low-mileage example of Ferrari’s first hybrid hypercar, capable of producing a combined 949 hp and showing a mere 600 miles from new. Presented in as-new condition throughout, the car is finished in eye-catching Giallo Modena with Scuderia Ferrari door shields, a black roof, and stunning black leather interior with yellow accents and carbon fiber trim (Est. $3,200,000 - $3,500,000). The Koenigsegg CCX on offer is the first American-specification example delivered to a U.S. customer, significant in the sense that Christian von Koenigsegg had set out to build a viable global-market supercar compliant with stringent U.S. safety and emission standards. Finished in black and retaining its dark silver Dymag wheels and matching “Top Gear” rear wing, the CCX has been upgraded by Koenigsegg to 980 hp and has covered just over 1,000 miles (Est. $950,000 - $1,200,000).

Completing the lineup of modern performance automobiles set for the Fort Lauderdale sale, are:

• 1993 Jaguar XJ220, Jaguar’s most unique supercar of the 1990s. This highly original example is one of just 282 models produced and has covered less than 7,800 km from new (Est. $425,000-$475,000, offered without reserve);
• 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo S “Exclusive Series”, one of 500 built and one of just 200 marked for U.S. delivery. The 911 is presented in Golden Yellow Metallic with carbon fibre front hood and roof accents (Est. $375,000-$425,000);
• 2017 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV Coupe, stunning in a black and gold colour combination. Exceedingly well-optioned, this is believed to be the last example of the model built for the U.S. (Est. $500,000 - $600,000);
• 2018 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso 70^th Anniversary, a bespoke Ferrari Tailor Made Collection showpiece, this is the only GTC4 Lusso finished in the commemorative 1951 212 Inter Vignale livery (Est. $330,000 - $400,000);
• 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 Zagato, the 12^th of just 99 Zagato roadsters built. Offered from the Retro Motors Collection, the DB AR1 has seen just three owners and 2,100 miles since new (Est. $300,000 - $350,000);
• 2006 Ford GT, complete with all four available options, one of only 292 produced in Mark II Black with Silver Le Mans stripes, and showing less than 600 miles from new (Est. $300,000-$350,000, offered without reserve);
• 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary one of only 657 25th Anniversary editions produced and showing less than 12,400 km from new (Est. $220,000-$260,000, offered without reserve);
• 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV Monterey Edition, the last of 20 Monterey Editions built, painted Lightning Blue with silver SV graphics over cream leather and retaining its original chrome wheels (Est. $200,000-$225,000, offered without reserve); and,

• 1985 De Tomaso Pantera GT5-S, a highly sought-after example with less than 200 believed to have been built (Est. $140,000-$180,000, offered without reserve).
