Modern Classics from the nineties and Young Timers from the noughties to go head to head at CCA May sale at the Warwick Event Centre on the 25th May with classics from BMW, Porsche and a Lotus Carlton.

CCA are offering for sale two BMW M3s from different decades, a 1990s E30 and a 2003 M3 E46 from a private collection, a powerhouse from Vauxhall, the Lotus Carlton and a Porsche 911 Turbo S.

BMW’s M series are famed for their high performance and always generate huge interest when they come on the market. CCA have two cars from two different eras being offered, the first a 1990 E30 left-hand drive originally supplied to Germany and brought to the UK in 2005. Clearly, this car has been cared for by its three previous owners and enjoyed with 120,000 miles on the clock and an extensive history file with a recent service at a BMW main dealer. Estimated at £34,000 to £38,000 this is one of the most topical modern classic saloons on the market in largely original condition.

From the noughties, a 2003 M3 E46 with 38,000 miles and one previous owner finished in Phoenix yellow and immaculately presented. Supplied with all the original books, main dealer stamped book and recent service. Estimated at £24,000 to £28,000 this is a serious car for a serious collector.

The Lotus Carlton, a four-door powerhouse from Vauxhall with the performance of contemporary sports cars, turned heads in the 90s when the car was launched. CCA have number 886, one of the 284 right-hand drive Carltons made was sourced by the current vendor after a lengthy search. A 1993 model with 76,000 miles, this is a highly original car in Imperial Green and sparingly used in recent years. It comes with a comprehensive history file, service binder and assorted invoices. Estimated at £40,000 to £45,000 the car comes with a valid MOT.

Get ready for the summer with a 2003 Porsche 911 (996) Turbo S Cabriolet, cared for by an enthusiast since 2011. Presented in Basalt Black with 41,000 miles, the original books, stamped service record and serviced in October 2018. A seriously powerful car with a few upgrades, this car is ready for the summer and estimated at £36,000 to £42,000.

LEGENDARY LOTUS CORTINA 'GROUP 5' WORKS CAR RACES TO AUCTION

1966 Ford Lotus Cortina Group 5 works car

A 1966 Ford Lotus Cortina with an incredible race pedigree will be offered for sale by Silverstone Auctions in its debut appearance at Autosport International at the NEC, Birmingham on 12th January 2019.

As one of only three ‘Group 5’ works cars built by Lotus for the 1966 British Saloon Car Championship, the collectable competition car was driven in period by some of the world’s most successful racing drivers, including Jim Clark, Graham Hill and Jacky Ickx.

With incredible provenance and proven racing pedigree, the car will be offered at auction with an estimate of £180,000 to £200,000.

“We’re delighted to be offering this amazing Lotus Cortina at our inaugural Autosport International Sale,” comments Lionel Abbott, classic car specialist, Silverstone Auctions. “With its impressive history, it’s a fantastic addition to the sale catalogue and a sign of what’s to come.”

This Ford Lotus Cortina, registration number PHK 614D, was built in March 1966 and immediately assigned to none other than Formula 1 World Champion Jim Clark for use at a rain-disrupted Oulton Park. It went on to be raced throughout the 1966 season by fellow Formula 1 drivers Peter Arundell and Jacky Ickx, who took the car to second in class in finishes at Snetterton, Goodwood and Silverstone.

In June 1966, the Lotus Cortina underwent an engine conversion by BRM to fuel injection before racing at the Grand Prix support race at Brands Hatch, where Sir John Whitmore achieved first in class, finishing in fourth position overall. The car went on to achieve further podium positions and class wins in the hands of Peter Arundell at the Brands Hatch Guards International Meeting, at Oulton Park, and in the British Saloon Car Championship, taking Team Lotus to first place in the Lombank Entrants Trophy.

In 1967 the car appeared in its last works event, finishing its Team Lotus career on a high with World Champion Graham Hill taking it to first in class and second overall in the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch.

“Given its exceptional rarity, competition successes and association with World Champions, this amazing Lotus Cortina offers a fantastic opportunity to acquire one of the most significant sports touring cars of the 1960s,” adds Lionel.

After eight more competitive finishes in 1967 and 1968, the car then spent many years in Africa until purchased by Cedric Selzer, Jim Clark’s race mechanic, and repatriated to the UK.

Today it presents in authentic condition following a sympathetic restoration and still retains its original shell and all the period race modifications to the suspension and the engine.

It's accompanied by the V5, full details of its works competition history in 1966, 1967 and 1968 as well as a small number of spares.

Christmas will come early for classic car fans at Classic Car Auctions’ (CCA) December Sale when a selection of Europe’s most popular classics will be auctioned on Saturday 1st December at the Warwickshire Event Centre (WEC).

Some of the UK’s favourite classics from the likes of BMW, Porsche, Alfa Romeo and Lotus are part of the catalogue of 152 ‘everyman’ classics for sale spanning 70 decades of automotive history.

“We may be in the process of leaving the EU but we still love our European cars!” comments Gary Dunne, auction manager, CCA. “The December Sale is our final sale of the year and we encourage car fans of all ages to come down and admire the classics on offer, as well as enjoy a mince pie and hot chocolate, with all the excitement of a live car auction.”

From the array of Germany’s finest marques at the sale, a superb condition 1990 BMW E30 M3 in festive Alpine White will headline the auction. The iconic high-performance, homologation special in left-hand drive, with plenty of ‘reindeer’ power, will be offered with an estimate of £35,000 to £40,000.

Also from Germany, a rare 1985 BMW M635 CSI (E24) in right-hand drive is estimated at £28,000 to £32,000. Meanwhile, Porsche fans will be spoilt for gift choices, from entry level examples to rarer collectables. A 1994 Porsche 911 (993) Carrera Cabriolet, one of just 129 UK examples made, is estimated at £36,000 to £40,000, and an immaculate 1982 Porsche 911 SC Targa, restored from the ground up, is estimated at £30,000 to £35,000.

“With over 150 amazing cars to choose from there’s always fantastic variety and quality at our sale, whether you’re looking for an investment, a project for the New Year, or a special Christmas gift for a loved one,” concludes Gary.

More exotic cars from the continent include an original condition 1972 Citroen SM, one of the most dramatically styled French sports cars, estimated at £25,000 to £30,000. A 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider (Duetto) in right-hand drive offering plenty of twin-cam, top-down dashing through the snow, is expected to reach £24,000 to £28,000.

From British soil, an impressive 2007 Noble M12 GTO 3.0 twin-turbo ideal for rapid present delivery, is expected to attract crowds guided at £30,000 to £35,000, and a fastidiously maintained 1996 Lotus Esprit V8 reading just 39,700 miles is expected to sell for between £28,000 and £32,000.

A special charity lot will also be a part of the sale; a 1970 Morris Minor 1000 998 Saloon which has been carefully stored for the last 35 years. Having covered just 3,200 miles, the British classic will be offered for sale at ‘no reserve’ with all proceeds, including commissions, to be donated to Safe Families for Children, Wales.
