OPPOSITES ATTRACT, RARE ITALIAN AND ICONIC BRITISH CRAFTSMANSHIP TO BE AUCTIONED AT FINAL CCA SALE OF THE YEAR

OPPOSITES ATTRACT, RARE ITALIAN AND ICONIC BRITISH CRAFTSMANSHIP TO BE AUCTIONED AT FINAL CCA SALE OF THE YEAR
1972 Lamborghini Espada GT400 S2

Classic Car Auctions have two stunning Italian masterpieces consigned to their final auction of the year at the Warwickshire Event Centre alongside two beautifully restored British icons of the 4x4 world.
Taking place on the 7th December Classic Car Auctions will be selling two fabulously designed Italian cars from 1972 and both needing recommissioning to get them to their best and possibly beyond, the Lamborghini Espada and the Maserati Indy 4700. Both of these cars are UK supplied, so they come in right-hand drive.
The 1972 Lamborghini Espada GT400 S2 is an incredibly rare car, only 1,217 were made and of those, just 575 Series 2s were manufactured with only 58 in right-hand drive. So this UK-supplied car really is exceedingly rare. Estimated at £60,000 to £70,000 this original Espada found its way to Malaysia and has recently returned to the UK where it will be registered in time for the sale. A really interesting car with some early paperwork and a stylish red and black interior. We believe the engines run, but there is some work to do. So take the bull by the horns and with some recommissioning, this is going to be one stunning car ready to charge into the wild.
Another Italian masterpiece is the 1972 Maserati Indy 4700, a Grand Tourer styled by Vignale and in need of some TLC to get it back to where it should be. Discovered in a garage, this stalled restoration project requires finishing. The car does roll, but the 4.7-litre V8 engine with 37,000 indicated miles has not been run for some years. The bodywork, finished in Nautilus Blue, appears to be sound and there are boxes containing the remaining parts including brand new front and rear bumpers. Estimated at £30,000 to £35,000 there appears to be little to do before this Italian stunner takes to the open road again.
Now talking of charging into the wild, we couldn’t be more opposing as we come to a great British icon, the trusty Land Rover. With the launch of the new Land Rover a modern take of a classic art form dividing opinion, the original still holds fond memories for many. Some of us even learnt to drive in one across open farmland when our feet could only just touch the pedals or sitting on an adults lap and just steering and hoping. Classic Car Auctions have two 1960s Series 2As on offer, just three years apart but equally well presented after being restored.
The first one the 1966 soft top has come over from Guernsey and is now UK registered. Finished in Pastel Green this mud plugger has been fastidiously restored by and F1 engineer. The engine has been professionally rebuilt to the original specification as well as the transmission. Estimated at £18,000 to £20,000 this is a stunning Land Rover, one you really need to see and it even comes with the rare and now refurbished Smiths heater.
Our second Landy is a 1969 soft-top which like the other one has undergone a beautiful restoration from the ground up. Estimated at £14,000 to £18,000 this S2A is ready to tackle whatever winter throws at it and to ensure it is well protected the chassis has been finished with a special protective coating and Waxoyl. This is a very competitively guided 4x4xFar.
Gary Dunne Classic Car Auctions Manager commented: “Well what cracking cars we have here. You couldn’t get more opposing. Classic Italian designed and crafted sports cars in need of recommissioning to what Britain does best, the Land Rover, two of which have been fully restored.”
“When you see something that requires TLC and then something that has been finished it really does get the imagination fired up as to what you could do with a car that requires some love.”
“Both the Espada and Maserati will no doubt be two fine motorcars when finished, a great opportunity for one lucky bidder.”
Classic Car Auctions are still taking entries for their sale on the 7th December at the Warwickshire Event Centre.
The last of the successful Cars, Coffee and Consignment events for this year takes place at the British Motor Museum on the 6th November where the CCA team will be on hand from 12pm to 4pm to value and photograph your car for free to go in the auction.”
If you are thinking of selling, do come and see them and also have a look round the museum for free whilst you are there.
They can also be contacted on 01926 640888 or by email enquiries@classiccarauctions.co.uk and would be happy to talk with you and help you through the process of consigning your car, alternatively, you can also use their online Value My Classic service.

SW1 NUMBER PLATES COULD FETCH NEARLY A QUARTER OF A MILLION POUND

With history being made in London SW1 for a Brexit deal, no-deal or referendum, car owners have a unique opportunity to purchase a piece of SW1 history.
Two unique number plates SW1and 1SW which are on retention are being sold at the COYS True Greats Christmas Auction on December 4th at the Royal Horticultural Halls and could sell for up to £180,000.

BMW 507 OWNED BY THE CAR’S DESIGNER VON GOERTZ STARS AT BONHAMS BOND STREET SALE

BMW 507 OWNED BY THE CAR’S DESIGNER VON GOERTZ STARS AT BONHAMS BOND STREET SALE

The BMW 507 owned by the designer of the legendary model, Count Albrecht Graf von Goertz, is to be offered at Bonhams annual Bond Street Sale on 1 December. The 1958 Series II example is one of only 252 built and is expected to achieve between £2,100,000 and £2,200,000.

The model is recognised as one of the most elegant cars ever created and was BMW’s answer to the legendary 300SL created by its rival marque, Mercedes-Benz. The 507 was a model driven by some of the biggest stars and important leaders of the time, including Elvis Presley, John Surtees, Ursula Andress, Prince Rainier of Monaco and the Aga Khan.

This example was bought by Count Albrecht Graf von Goertz, a German designer living in New York who had designed everything from furniture to fountain pens – but never a car. The 507 was his first automotive design and was met with great acclaim. It was bought by von Goertz in 1971 and he owned it for more than a decade. It was extensively restored in 1990 and is in excellent condition.

A series of rare British classics will be on offer at Classic Car Auctions’ season finale sale on 1st December at the Warwickshire Event Centre. Highlights of the December Sale include a beautiful, classic 1969 Jensen Interceptor MK1, a fully restored 1980 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith II and a trio of classic Triumph sports cars.
One of the classiest coupes in the sale is the 1969 Jensen Interceptor MK1, estimated at £36,000 to £40,000. Following 30 years in storage, this British classic received a sympathetic restoration in Metallic Fawn with Champagne leather. The original matching numbers engine benefits from an upgraded Holley carburettor and retains its original bulletproof 727 transmissions. Fitted with period alloys, vinyl roof and period wood steering wheel, the Jensen has covered just over 60,000 miles.
“There is always something special about a British built car, it’s the perfect combination of luxury, style and speed”, says Richard Greenhalgh, classic car specialist at Classic Car Auctions. “The British car industry has a knack for building cars, just take a look at our back catalogue of classic manufacturers, it’s full of legendary names known around the world for their quality, class and traditional taste and style.”
The biggest name in luxury cars is of course Rolls-Royce. The 1980 Rolls-Royce Wraith II on offer in the sale has been the subject of a no expense spared restoration, both mechanically and electrically, since 2015. Estimated at £24,000 to £28,000 the Wraith is finished in Peacock Blue with a matching Everflex roof and has a concours quality Magnolia leather interior piped in blue courtesy of marque specialists, Frank Dale.
The first in a trio of Triumph sports cars in the sale is a 1967 Triumph TR4A (Overdrive). The TR4A had a bare metal respray in its current shade of black as part of a thorough mechanical and body restoration in 2013. During this time the engine received a new camshaft, followers and ancillaries along with having the head skimmed. The classic now presents beautifully with only 21,600 miles and is estimated at £23,000 to £26,000
The sale will also see a 1968 Triumph TR5 estimated at £35,000 to £40,000 on offer. Carefully looked after during the last 11 years of ownership, the TR5 has been the recipient of a full body respray in Old English White with the engine, clutch, gearbox, steering, suspension and brakes all completely overhauled. It has also had its bumpers and over-riders re-chromed, making this a truly impeccable example.
To complete the Triumph trio is a 1974 Triumph TR6 O/D, which was one of the original factory press department road test cars. Nicely presented in Mimosa Yellow with a black hood and interior, the TR6 has been family owned for the past 15 years. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000, the car is well known amongst the Triumph community and was even magazine featured, appearing in a copy of Thoroughbred and Classic in January 1975.
