RM AUCTIONS BRINGS MODERN PEFORMANCE TO FORT LAUDERDALE SALE

RM AUCTIONS BRINGS MODERN PERFORMANCE TO FORT LAUDERDALE SALE

FERRARI LAFERRARI AND KOENIGSEGG CCX LEAD SUPERCARS ON OFFER
AT BROWARD COUNTY CONVENTION CENTER

  • RM Auctions offers a desirable assortment of modern performance and supercars at Fort Lauderdale sale, 29-30 March
  • Highlights include Ferrari LaFerrari, Koenigsegg CCX, Jaguar XJ220, Porsche Turbo S Exclusive, Ford GT and more
  • More than 350 collector cars and the assortment of automobilia set for two-day sale, with something for all enthusiasts
  • Digital preview catalogue, updated list of entries, and event information available at rmsothebys.com

RM Auctions has released the digital preview catalogue for the company’s 17th annual Fort Lauderdale sale, 29-30 March, led by a group of modern sports performance and supercars. Regarded as South Florida’s premier collector car auction, the two-day sale—held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center–will feature more than 350 quality collector cars along with a selection of automobilia, ranging from American classics to European sports cars, muscle, hot rods, customs and modern collectables.

Leading the latest high-performance highlights for RM Auctions’ Fort Lauderdale auction are two supercar icons of the 21st century—a2015 Ferrari LaFerrari and a 2008 Koenigsegg CCX. The LaFerrari, one of just 499 built, is a low-mileage example of Ferrari’s first hybrid hypercar, capable of producing a combined 949 hp and showing a mere 600 miles from new. Presented in as-new condition throughout, the car is finished in eye-catching Giallo Modena with Scuderia Ferrari door shields, a black roof, and stunning black leather interior with yellow accents and carbon fiber trim (Est. $3,200,000 - $3,500,000). The Koenigsegg CCX on offer is the first American-specification example delivered to a U.S. customer, significant in the sense that Christian von Koenigsegg had set out to build a viable global-market supercar compliant with stringent U.S. safety and emission standards. Finished in black and retaining its dark silver Dymag wheels and matching “Top Gear” rear wing, the CCX has been upgraded by Koenigsegg to 980 hp and has covered just over 1,000 miles (Est. $950,000 - $1,200,000).

Completing the lineup of modern performance automobiles set for the Fort Lauderdale sale, are:

  • 1993 Jaguar XJ220, Jaguar’s most unique supercar of the 1990s. This highly original example is one of just 282 models produced and has covered less than 7,800 km from new (Est. $425,000-$475,000, offered without reserve);
  • 2018 Porsche 911 Turbo S “Exclusive Series”, one of 500 built and one of just 200 marked for U.S. delivery. The 911 is presented in Golden Yellow Metallic with carbon fibre front hood and roof accents (Est. $375,000-$425,000);
  • 2017 Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV Coupe, stunning in a black and gold colour combination. Exceedingly well-optioned, this is believed to be the last example of the model built for the U.S. (Est. $500,000 - $600,000);
  • 2018 Ferrari GTC4 Lusso 70th Anniversary, a bespoke Ferrari Tailor Made Collection showpiece, this is the only GTC4 Lusso finished in the commemorative 1951 212 Inter Vignale livery (Est. $330,000 - $400,000);
  • 2003 Aston Martin DB AR1 Zagato, the 12th of just 99 Zagato roadsters built. Offered from the Retro Motors Collection, the DB AR1 has seen just three owners and 2,100 miles since new (Est. $300,000 - $350,000);
  • 2006 Ford GT, complete with all four available options, one of only 292 produced in Mark II Black with Silver Le Mans stripes, and showing less than 600 miles from new (Est. $300,000-$350,000, offered without reserve);
  • 1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary one of only 657 25th Anniversary editions produced and showing less than 12,400 km from new (Est. $220,000-$260,000, offered without reserve);
  • 1998 Lamborghini Diablo SV Monterey Editionthe last of 20 Monterey Editions built, painted Lightning Blue with silver SV graphics over cream leather and retaining its original chrome wheels (Est. $200,000-$225,000, offered without reserve); and,
  • 1985 De Tomaso Pantera GT5-S, a highly sought-after example with less than 200 believed to have been built (Est. $140,000-$180,000, offered without reserve).

RALLY LEGENDS FOR ROAD AND TRACK DRIFT INTO RM SOTHEBY’S INAUGURAL ESSEN AUCTION

RALLY LEGENDS FOR ROAD AND TRACK
DRIFT INTO RM SOTHEBY’S INAUGURAL ESSEN AUCTION
  • RM Sotheby’s reveals a selection of road-ready rally car greats for sale at Essen, Germany auction, 11-12 April
  • A varied selection of Lancia entries includes Delta S4 Stradale, 037 Stradale and Stratos HF Stradale, representing a golden age of rally sport
  • Over 200 diverse automobiles consigned for Essen sale, with more detail at rmsothebys.com

RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce the consignment of several legendary road-ready rally cars for its first-ever Essen, Germany sale, due to take place over two days (11-12 April) during the Techno-Classica Essen Show. Over 200 unique automobile lots will be offered in Essen, within which a collection of celebrated road-going Lancia models includes a Delta S4 Stradale, 037 Stradale, and Stratos HF Stradale, to represent a golden age of rally sport.
The 1985 Lancia Delta S4 Stradale is among the highly desirable featured cars set for Essen. Manufactured as a Group B rally car, the Delta S4 was made by Lancia with the intention of replacing the outgoing 037, raced by Lancia in the early 1980s. The Delta S4 lived up to the reputation of its predecessor with a number of Group B wins, while the rally class homologation requirements led Lancia to build 200 road-going versions of the car, paving the way for the Stradale version, literally translated from Italian as ‘road-going’. The Delta S4 on offer in Essen is a highly original example of the legendary Italian rally car, showing less than 2,200 km from new and complete with original owner’s manuals and toolkit (Est. €450.000 - €550.000).

The Lancia rally legend theme continues with a truly exceptional 1975 Lancia Stratos HF Stradale, one of only 492 produced as a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive race and rally car. Lancia dominated the World Rally Championship with the futuristic looking Stratos HF Stradale, finishing every season in the first place from 1974 to 1976, and winning subsequent races until the car was retired in the early-1980s. Presented in unrestored, original condition, it was originally delivered to Guido Bignardi in Sicily. A member of a prominent Italian rallying family, the car remained with him for three decades before passing through just one more owner ahead of the consignor (Est. €480.000 - €520.000). Also set for the sale is a 1984 Lancia 037 Stradale, another stunning and purposeful rally legend built to comply with homologation standards of ‘80s rally sport. Also delivered new to a member of the Bignardi family, the 037 was kept by its first owner until 2005 before being purchased by its third and current owner in 2015. Presented in exceptionally well-preserved condition and showing just 3,500 km from new, this is surely one of the lowest mileage examples available (Est. €350.000 - €400.000). A 1974 Lancia Fulvia (Est. €20.000 - €30.000) and 1970 Lancia Fulvia Rallye 1.6 HF ‘Fanalone’ (Est. €60.000 - €70.000) complete the Lancia motorsport line-up.

Maarten ten Holder, Head of Europe & Chief Auctioneer for RM Sotheby’s, comments: “These road-going Lancia rally cars have become iconic within the collector car community. The Essen sale is a great opportunity for an enthusiast or collector to acquire a part of motorsport history, and these cars are not commonplace within the market. Each car is offered in fantastic condition and buyers can look forward to enjoying the incredible driving experience they offer. The Essen sale has been curated with a diverse selection of cars on offer, many of which are highly sought-after within the German market, and we are looking forward to our first ever sale on German soil.”
Rounding off the rally theme is another iconic car of the 1980s, a 1985 Renault 5 Turbo 2 offered from the Youngtimer Collection in Essen. As a perfect introduction to rallying’s 1980s heyday, the Renault 5 Turbo was born of Renault’s desire to emulate the winning recipe of the Stratos, and in so doing gave the humble Renault 5 a new lease on life by moving its engine to behind the driver and switching to rear-wheel drive. This example was first registered in Germany but has gone on to owners in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland (Est: €80.000 - €90.000). The Renault is featured amongst 85 cars presented from the single-owner Youngtimer Collection at Essen.
The addition of the Essen sale to RM Sotheby’s established Paris, Monaco, Villa Erba, and London events address a sustained level of interest in high-value automobile sales in Europe – also contributing towards a growing presence for RM Sotheby’s among car collectors in the region. The collector car market in Germany is recognized by RM Sotheby’s as especially strong.

RM SOTHEBY’S TO PRESENT THE GUYTON COLLECTION ENTIRELY WITHOUT RESERVE

RM SOTHEBY’S TO PRESENT THE GUYTON COLLECTION
ENTIRELY WITHOUT RESERVE

60 AUTOMOBILES AND HUNDREDS OF AUTOMOBILIA LOTS SET FOR 4-5 MAY SALE

  • RM Sotheby’s offers the respected Guyton Collection, entirely without reserve, 4-5 May in St. Louis, Missouri
  • The superbly curated collection comprises rarest of Veteran, Brass, and Classic Era American and European motor cars
  • Automobiles offered alongside hundreds of lots of automobilia, collectables, petroliana, and original artwork
  • Event information and all lots in the collection available at rmsothebys.com in the coming weeks

RM Sotheby’s is honoured to announce that it will present the esteemed Guyton Collection, comprising the cars and automobilia of the late Mr Fred Guyton, entirely without reserve. Set for 4-5 May at the collection site in St. Louis, Missouri, the auction will present Mr Guyton’s 60 Veteran, Brass, and Classic Era automobiles alongside hundreds of pieces of automobilia and collectables.

A beloved fixture of the collector car hobby, Mr Guyton was well-known and respected within collecting and car club circles, having amassed his renowned collection over more than four decades. After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Fine & Applied Arts in 1961 with a Bachelor of Architecture, Fred Guyton spent a year in the Peace Corps before his induction into the U.S. Army, where he served as a helicopter pilot. After discharge, Fred moved to St. Louis and began his illustrious career as an architect, which culminated in his co-founding of the world-renowned architectural firm Peckham Guyton Albers & Viets, Inc. (PGAV), where he continued to work until his passing in 2018. During Fred’s 35 years as Chairman of PGAV, he led the development of landmark projects around the globe, including Busch Gardens Williamsburg & Tampa, Anheuser-Busch World Headquarters, and Universal Studios Theme Parks. Mr Guyton was a proud St. Louisan, active in civic works, and was appointed by a succession of St. Louis Mayors to numerous posts of local importance.

All of Mr Guyton’s experiences led him to be a true student of history, his passion for which is visible throughout his collection. The motor cars are focused on the era that begins with the dawn of the automobile and culminates in the immediate pre-war period, bringing to light the best of the era’s technological advancements and engineering. Both American and European automobiles were chosen for their importance to automotive history. A true hobbyist, Mr Guyton was on the Board of Directors of the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA), Classic Car Club Museum, and the CCCA Spirit of St. Louis Region.

“Fred Guyton was a treasured name in the collector car hobby, and we’re honoured to present his fascinating collection at auction,” says Donnie Gould, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby’s. “With an encyclopedic knowledge of history himself, Fred’s collection tells the story of a significant period in automotive advancement, one that we’re thrilled to share with the hobby this spring. Fred rarely if ever sold a part of his beloved collection, and, apart from a handful of cars, did not show his collection often, so this truly is a very rare opportunity.”

Of the 60 automobiles on offer, a trio of Classic Era highlights stand apart from the rest. These include an incredibly rare 1930 Packard 734 Speedster Eight Phaeton, chassis no. 184100, which is an exceptionally original example of the ultimate performance Packard of its era. Offered from just two owners since 1955, including well-known East Coast Packard collector, Tom Mix, the Speedster Eight Phaeton is one of just five ever built, and is worthy of inclusion in the very best collections of American Classics. Joining the Packard is a 1930 Duesenberg Model J Murphy Convertible Sedan, engine no. J-329, a highly cherished piece within the collection. Originally driven by Indianapolis racer Leon Duray, the Model J was stunningly restored by Chris Charlton. Complete with its original chassis, body, and engine, the Duesenberg comes to the market having seldom been shown and providing a host of opportunities for its next owner, who would surely be welcomed at virtually any major concours. Rounding out the group is a 1930 Ruxton Model C Baker-Raulang Roadster, chassis no. 11005. A well-known example of a pioneering front-wheel-drive American car, the Ruxton on offer was one of Mr Guyton’s favourite cars, with known history from new and the Best-Preserved Pre-War Car honours at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. One of the rarest American Full Classics—a mere seven examples remain—a Ruxton Roadster is seldom available for public sale.

Beyond the most cherished pieces of the collection, there are several significant automobiles for which Guyton was well-known in the hobby. The first of these cars is a 1906 Mason Touring, chassis no. 77, the earliest car designed by the Duesenberg brothers. A well-engineered Brass Era car, the Mason is formerly of the Harrah’s Collection and is a significant early automobile offered with well-known, long-term history. Also on offer is a 1927 Duesenberg Model X Dual-Cowl Phaeton, engine no. X3, the Chicago and Los Angeles motor show car in the period and the first Model X to become available for public sale in decades. A part of the collection for over 20 years, the Model X is the rarest production Duesenberg as one of just 13 built and only four remaining. The 1938 Rolls-Royce Phantom III ‘Parallel Door’ Saloon, chassis no. 3DL86 was perhaps Fred Guyton’s best-known, and most beloved car, gifted to him by a very close friend upon his passing. With a fascinating feature of sliding doors alongside stunning lines, the Phantom III is something to behold. Finally, 1909 Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP Silver Ghost Roi des Belges, chassis no. 1203, also highlights the collection. Formerly of the Richard Solove Collection, the Silver Ghost is a Pebble Beach and Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance award-winner and a long-time national tour veteran.

Mr Guyton’s passion for historical pursuits is reflected in very discernable areas within his automobilia and collectibles as well, with an entire room in his facility dedicated to WWI and WWII aviation and naval ephemera, as well as a superb automotive library. Well over 500 pieces of automobilia, collectibles, petroliana, sports memorabilia, and original artwork are set for the May auction, alongside more than 3,000 model and toy cars, including what is regarded as one of the world’s finest assortments of Minic Clockwork Toy Cars. Within the collection is a tremendous group of mascots, bronzes, badges, and original paintings by renowned automotive artists, the perfect complement to any collection of motor cars. RM Sotheby’s will also be offering the furniture and equipment from the collection, including display cabinets and accessories of use to collectors.

Complete event details and a list of all items offered in The Guyton Collection will be available at rmsothebys.com in the coming weeks. The 1930 Packard 734 Speedster Eight Phaeton will be available for advance viewing at RM Sotheby’s upcoming Amelia Island sale, 8-9 March in Florida, as well as on the lawn at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, 10 March. To speak with an RM Sotheby’s specialist or to register to bid for this exceptional collection, please call +1 519 352 4575.

HERSHEY, Pennsylvania (October 11, 2014) – RM Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction house for investment-quality automobiles, celebrated the annual AACA Eastern Division Fall Meet this week (October 9 – 10) with its best Hershey performance to date: $14,074,250 in total sales with a very strong 93 percent of all lots sold.

Generated by the sale of 157 vehicles and select memorabilia before a packed auction room, results from the two-day sale were driven by numerous spirited bidding contests both in the room and over the phones. Illustrating RM’s international clientele and reflecting the global appeal of the Hershey event, bidders hailed from 17 countries, with more than one quarter representing first-time clientele.

We’re ecstatic about the results achieved at this year’s Hershey sale,” says Gord Duff, car specialist, RM Auctions. “The incredible prices realized demonstrate RM’s proven success in presenting exceptional single-vendor collections within our catalogue sales, with both the Cars of John Moir and the Jeffrey Day Collection exceeding expectations. Overall, the results reflect the incredible quality presented, along with our ability to match the right product to the right venue. Hershey has certainly topped off what has been a record-breaking year of catalogue sales for our team.”

Highlighting Thursday evening’s sale session, top sale honors went to the 1930 Cadillac V-16 Roadster offered from the Cars of John Moir. Representing the ‘C’ in Moir’s unique A-to-Z Car Collection, the Cadillac had been in the Moir Family Car Barn since 1933. Proving that the car’s unparalleled history, quality and presentation were in high demand, it sold for an incredible $1,100,000 to applause from the crowd, establishing a new auction record for the marque. Offered entirely without reserve, the Cars of John Moir, which also included a special AC Master Class and select family cars in addition to his eclectic alphabet collection, generated fantastic results across the board.

Selling a family collection is a large emotional challenge,” said Jim Moir, son of John Moir Jr. following the sale. “It’s been a pleasure and an honor to deal with the people at RM Auctions who understand that and who take the care to be emotionally supportive, responsible, and timely, making it a smooth and gratifying experience.”

He added, “I think the original owner of the V-16 Cadillac, my grandfather, John Moir Sr., would be very proud and very happy.”

Friday night’s sale session was headlined by the Jeffrey Day Collection. Attracting strong pre-sale interest, the group of 50 “best of category” vehicles garnered fantastic prices on the podium, led by a highly optioned, and beautifully restored 1956 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Skyliner ‘Glass Top’, for an outstanding $165,000, a new auction record for the model. Also commanding strong interest was the oldest lot of the sale, an expertly restored 1860 Abbott-Downing Stagecoach. A part of the Day Collection since 1971 and showing an amazing level of finish and detail throughout, the impressive survivor brought $330,000.

Additional highlights included a highly original 1905 FIAT 60 HP Five-Passenger Tourer, originally owned by August Anheuser Busch Sr., for $825,000, and a beautifully restored and well-maintained 1933 Chrysler CL Imperial Dual-Windshield Phaeton for $522,500.

RM AUCTIONS LONDON 8th September News Update

Our famed London auction is only a few days away!

On Monday, 8 September, Battersea Evolution will host our annual London sale, which will feature 81 of the world’s most iconic sports, grand touring, and classic automobiles. Highlights include an iconic 1964 Shelby 289 Competition Cobra, which was campaigned by “Gentleman” Tom Payne in 1964 and 1965 and then ended up in the care of the Shelby American Collection for 25 years; a matching-numbers 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Alloy by Scaglietti, which is one of just sixty built; and the first Bugatti Type 57C sold, a 1937 Stelvio with bodywork by Gangloff.

The auction follows the Concours of Elegance weekend, which takes place Friday, 5 September to Sunday, 7 September, where European collectors and enthusiasts gather for one of the final major events of the season. Interested spectators can visit the Concours of Elegance website for venue and ticket information.

One of the most thrilling things in this business is the ability to trace automotive history across different vehicles and years. My favourite from this sale is the 1956 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione 'Tour de France', which is eight of nine produced, and without it, there would be no California Spider, no 250 GT SWB, and no 250 GTO. This is the model that started Ferrari’s most valuable series of dual-purpose sports cars, and it is the one that brought home more silver than any other.

This particular example had top 10 finishes at the 1956 and 1957 Tour de France Automobile, among a string of strong results in period competition. Following a full restoration, it started to collect concours trophies, in addition to it racing competitively in vintage events, such as the Mille Miglia.

This TdF is deservedly our London catalogue cover car, and what makes it even more alluring, especially for me, is that it's finished in its original French Racing Blue livery from the 1957 Tour de France!

The selection at London is too extensive to cover here in the detail required, so please take a look at the lot listing at the bottom of this e-mail. You're also able to browse vehicles directly from our website, where each lot is complete with full catalogue descriptions and photos.

Supporting every London consignment is our on-site vehicle history and parts library, known as Access the Knowledge. We encourage you to visit the library, as it offers the opportunity to browse the documentation, parts, and history files on each consignment. If you can't make it to the auction and require more information, please don't hesitate to contact our Client Services team.

During the event, we'll be live on Twitter to answer questions and post results. You don't need to sign up to view our updates; they will be updating live below the auction video feed on our website. Click here to follow the auction live on rmauctions.com.
