RM Auctions will present a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, offered from the collection of pop superstar and Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine. Renowned as South Florida’s premier collector car auction, RM Auctions Fort Lauderdale sale is set for 29-30 March at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center and will present more than 350 quality collector cars along with a selection of automobilia.

An iconic shape in automotive history, this Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing is made all the more special by Levine’s ownership. The musician has owned and enjoyed the car for the last six years, often photographed driving it around Los Angeles. Complete with its matching-numbers engine, the Gullwing is finished in a timeless silver over a blue leather interior and represents a unique collecting opportunity. The 300 SL Gullwing is estimated to bring $1,000,000 - $1,400,000 when it crosses the auction podium in Fort Lauderdale this weekend.

RM Auctions will also celebrate the local Fort Lauderdale community at the auction, with a portion of proceeds from the sale of a 2010 Ferrari California set to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County, an organization near and dear to the RM Auctions team. Presented in Grigio Alloy with Bordeaux Daytona-style seats, the modern classic is equipped with a 454-brake horsepower V-8 engine, seven-speed dual-clutch automated transmission, retractable hardtop, carbon fiber rear diffuser, aluminum brake calipers, and shows less than 4,100 miles from new (Est. $120,000 - $140,000, offered without reserve).

ASTON MARTIN DB5 “STAMP CAR” AND DB2 “WASHBOARD” TO STAR AT HEYTHROP BRITISH MARQUES SALE

Silverstone Auctions are delighted to announce two stunning Aston Martins, a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 and a 1950 Aston Martin DB2 Washboard to headline the British Marques May sale at Heythrop Park on the 11th May.

Both cars are in stunning condition and have been restored to the highest of standards.

The Aston Martin DB5 will always be associated with the James Bond films and is probably one of the most famous models produced. This particular 1965 car comes with its own special moment in history as it was the car featured by the Royal Mail on a special edition of stamps produced to celebrate “the best in British car manufacturing”.

Finished in the iconic Silver Birch, this car is in the most incredible condition with the original red Connolly hide seats and factory headrests. The car has undergone an impressive restoration by marque experts and had a full engine rebuild by Aston Engineering in 2013.

This is a right hand drive car with a five speed manual gearbox with standard disc brakes and chrome wire wheels. It comes with an impressive history file.

This DB5 was once owned by Chris Evans former Radio 2 breakfast show presenter who is a passionate classic car collector and famed for having one of the ultimate classic car collections. The car is now presented for auction by the current owner estimated at £675,000 to £750,000.

The DB2 Aston Martins were famous for competing at Le Mans in 1949 before they became available as a road going version.

This particular 1950 Aston Martin DB2 Washboard offered for sale is 1 of just 49 cars produced with the three part grille before it was replaced on later cars by a one piece grille on costs grounds. The slatted vent behind each of front wheel gave rise to the “Washboard” nickname and the creation of The Washboard Register for this type of car.

Delivered new to Australia in December 1950, the car underwent an exquisite four year restoration to factory specification by Woodham Mortimer. It comes with numbers matching Aston’s factory data sheet and still in its original Almond Green over Dark Green paint.

In 2015 the car took third place in the Post War Sports Cars class at the world’s most prestigious Concours, Pebble Beach.

Estimated at £475,000 to £550,00 this is an important car and possibly the best DB2 in the world.

Now in its fourth year, Silverstone Auctions’ annual Porsche Sale offers a wide and inclusive range of models from early 356s to the latest 911 GT3. Headlining the marque specific sale is a 1963 Porsche 356 C Carrera 2 2000 GS, one of only six right-hand drive coupes of its type, finished in the special order colour Bali Blue with a black leather interior and sunroof. First owned by successful 1960's Ferrari privateer racing driver Chris Kerrison, it will be offered at the auction estimated at £550,000 to £650,000.

Extremely rare 911s also feature, including a 1998 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo S finished in Pastel Yellow with a black leather interior, one of only 26 UK-supplied cars, guided at £165,000 to £185,000. A limited edition 1989 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo LE, one of only 53 UK right-hand drive examples made estimated at £130,000 to £150,000 and reading just over 30,000 miles, is also expected to draw collectors to the sale.

Two RUF examples will also be at the auction, with a one of five, UK right-hand drive 1998 RUF BTR2 993 Turbo coming from single ownership and estimated at £150,000 to £200,000, and the 2002 RUF RTurbo featured in the famous Nurburgring press video, guided at £180,000 to £220,000.

A 2018 Porsche 911(991.2) GT3 Touring 6-speed manual reading less than 1,000 miles is the youngest car in the sale, offering Porsche fans the chance to jump the waiting list, guided at £150,000 to £175,000.

Headlining the September Sale is a beautiful matching number 1950 Jaguar XK120 Roadster with Hollywood provenance, first owned by actor Allan Jones. Having undergone an exacting restoration costing of over £150,000, this exceptional example is supplied with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and will be offered with an estimate of £170,000 to £190,000.

In the modern classics category, a number of special editions are available. A cosmetically flawless, restored 1988 BMW E30 M3 Sports Evolution II is estimated at £60,000 to £70,000 as one of only 40 the UK supplied cars. Also from the eighties, a low mileage 1984 Renault 5 Turbo 2, previously owned by two US private collectors, comes to market in incredible original condition and reading just 16,898 recorded miles, guided at £70,000 to £80,000.

American special editions include a 2010 Dodge Viper ACR Voodoo Edition, one of only 31 ever produced and estimated at £40,000 to £50,000, a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro Fifty edition reading just 2,618 miles and estimated at £40,000 to £46,000, as well as a 1967 Ford Mustang 390GT ‘Bullitt’ Homage to be offered at £90,000 to £110,000.

Two incredible, limited edition Lamborghinis boost the supercar presence at the sale; a one of 20 made 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640-4 'Versace' edition guided at £150,000 to £170,000, and a 1996 Lamborghini Diablo SV, one of only 30 UK examples, guided at £130,000 to £150,000.

A super rare, restored 1968 Jensen Interceptor Mk 1 manual

Classic Car Auctions (CCA) achieved a sales rate of 75 per cent at its September

 Sale held at the Warwickshire Event Centre on 15th September, where 107 quality ‘everyman’ classics were sold to bidders around the world with total sales exceeding £1.8 million.

British classics proved particularly popular at the sale with a beautiful, restored 1968 Jensen Interceptor Mk 1 manual at the centre of the longest bidding war of the day. As one of just eight surviving examples of the 22 made and finished in striking Anthracite with a Black leather interior, the super rare manual sold for a huge £85,800, more than double its lower estimate.

Another rare British classic from the sixties to cause a stir in the saleroom was a restored 1962 Daimler Dart SP250 (B Spec) manual. Offered for the first time on the open market with its original Buff Log Book and Bill of Sale, the quirky and distinctive classic sold over estimate for £36,300.

Classic MGs also fared well, with a restored 1933 MG J2 Midget manual coming from 20-year ownership selling for £29,150, almost £10,000 above its lower estimate, as well as a 1958 MG MGA Coupe selling for £12,650. A smart 1979 MG B GT manual presented in gleaming Black with chrome bumper conversion and silver 'Minilites' almost doubled its upper estimate after another bidding war, selling for £12,320.

“What a fantastic auction!” comments Gary Dunne, auction manager at CCA. “For this year’s September Sale we limited the size of our catalogue and the resulting high quality of the cars on offer has been clear to see. It’s wonderful to see such a strong turn out and an auction hall full of bidders and enthusiasts.”

The sale also included a special charity lot, a 1984 Audi Quattro Turbo, which was offered as the first lot of the day. Featured on Channel 4’s Car SOS and restored by Tim Shaw and Fuzz Townsend, the Quattro was sold in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and Mesothelioma UK following the wishes of its late owner, raising £20,350 in total, including all auction fees donated by the auction house.

Other memorable modern classics from the sale include a left-hand drive 1993 Lancia Delta Integrale 16V Evo 2 finished in Monza Red with a virtually unmarked Beige Alacantra interior, which far exceeded its guide price selling for £48,950.

Another of the most anticipated cars of the sale, a rare 1996 BMW 850 CSI (E31), one of only 160 UK examples with both low ownership and low mileage, was bought by a bidder in the room for an impressive £50,600.

A rare 1999 BMW E36 M3 GT Evolution Individual offering serious collector status as one of a limited edition of 50 made and reading just 74,830 recorded miles, easily pushed past its estimate to sell for £26,400.

A trio of amazing Lamborghinis will be offered at auction during the September Sale at Dallas Burston Polo Club on 29th September. The Italian supercar line-up includes a rare Murcielago LP640-4 Versace Edition, a former press and shows 1996 Diablo SV and a one-owner 1974 Espada Series 3.

The 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640-4 Versace Edition on offer is one of only 20 cars built and one of only eight cars in the right-hand drive. This exotic special edition was first supplied to New Zealand in 2007 before being imported to the UK in 2017 by an avid collector of exotica. Finished in Aldebaran Gloss Black with a Nero over Bianco leather interior, the Murcielago features the Versace Greco motif, which was designed for the car by the stylists from the Versace fashion house. The interior also features a Gianni Versace plaque on the centre console designating the car number 19 of 20 editions. Estimated at £150,000 to £170,000, the Versace Edition uses the same 6.5-litre V12 engine as the standard LP640-4, producing 631BHP and 487lb-ft of torque. The Murcielago comes to auction in impeccable condition, reading only 11,300Km (7,500 miles), and even comes with its original Versace branded luggage.

Also on offer is a 1996 Lamborghini Diablo SV which was the former Alpine Radio press and show car. Estimated at £130,000 to £150,000, the Diablo is one of only 33 right-hand drive UK cars and was first registered on 14th June 1996. Powered by a 5.7 litre V12 with 517BHP and 428lb-ft of torque, the Diablo SV had been in long-term storage since 2007, recently entrusted to The Ferrari Centre, Kent to service the car with the bill amounting to £12,300 only 1,500Km ago. Covering just 33,473Km (20,000 miles), in total, the Diablo is presented for auction freshly painted in Giallo Yellow and sporting new SV decals along with a luxurious Alcantara interior stitched in yellow.

“Lamborghini has always held a special place in car enthusiasts’ hearts and the adrenaline and excitement delivered by a Lamborghini is unmatched by any other manufacturer”, says Arwel Richards, classic car specialist at Silverstone Auctions. “Born from a tractor manufacturer and an argument with Enzo Ferrari, the raging bull has grown to become the prancing horse’s fiercest rival. The quality of cars on offer from Lamborghini is incredible and they are always an exciting addition to our auction catalogues”.

For those with a taste for more classical Lamborghinis, one owner 1974 Lamborghini Espada Series 3 offered in the sale is sure to attract attention. Estimated at £90,000 to £110,000, the Espada is the 50th from the last car built of the 1,225 cars in total. Covering just 26,000 miles under its sole ownership, the Espada is finished in a gorgeous shade of Black Cherry with a Burgundy interior. The car has been maintained by highly-qualified aero mechanics using Lamborghini parts and has also been retrofitted with an electronic ignition system, high torque starter motor and braided fuel lines. Recent maintenance has included a full transmission overhaul, cylinder head rebuild and full service by Classic Workshop Ltd in Bicester at a cost of £4,668. The car is supplied with its original tool kit, jack and spare wheel. Along with an original pair of Lamborghini Cologne leather-bound flasks.

Barons is celebrating its 20th anniversary at its Autumn Classic sale at Sandown Park Racecourse on October 27thy and, in a twist on tradition, the ‘birthday boy’ is the one giving out the gifts. 

The auction house is offering free standard entry for cars consigned to the sale (usual price £120), while, for this sale alone, it is waiving the £15 catalogue charge, allowing bidders to attend for free.

Barons’ Auction Manager Tim Gascoigne said, “After 20 years, the Barons depth of knowledge of the classic car world and enthusiasm for classic and collectors’ cars remains unchanged, as does our desire to deliver an efficient service and good value for money. The early days....

Barons first sale was held on September 28th 1998 and was opened by TV presenter and racing driver Tiff Needell, with a charity lot sold on behalf of the automotive industry’s charity, BEN.

Over the past 20 years Barons has ridden out the highs and lows of the classic car market and the global financial situation, continually adapting to the changing demands as fashions and tastes come and go, but always maintaining its core standards. The company was established to offer the classic car owner and would-be owner a better, more cost-effective service, an ethos Barons adheres to this day. The Barons team were innovators – for example, Barons was the first auction house to offer online entry forms - and set up a secure, ring-fenced, client account from the outset.

A history of strong results

Barons has held 163 sales to date, and it all began on that day in September 1998, when the very first car Barons ever sold was a Rover. The auction house has consistently achieved strong results for British marques over the two decades. For example, in 2010, a ‘lost’ 1958 Aston Martin DB2/4 MkIII drophead rolling restoration sold for over £206,000 – more than twice its top estimate – at Barons at Sandown Park. Originally the property of former Aston Martin owner David Brown, it had spent the previous 30 years hidden beneath a tarpaulin and interest in the car came from around the world.

In 2015 an extremely rare 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback ‘barn find’ restoration project went under the Barons hammer. The owner had hoped to achieve around £100,000, but, recognising its rarity and potential, Barons set a £250,000-£300,000 guide price and the car attracted frenzied bidding before it was finally secured by its new owner for £726,000, the highest price Barons had ever achieved for a car at that time.

That record was eclipsed just two sales later, when an ultra-rare, unrestored and highly original 1969 Aston Martin DB6 Mk 1 Volante Vantage set what remains the current record for Barons when it sold for £781,000 at Sandown Park.

Jaguars have been another strong feature of Barons’ sales, the company has held an annual Jaguar Heritage auction every year since 2000. Barons was founded by a Jaguar expert and directors Tony Cavell and Peter Gascoigne - who has been with the team since 2005 - also have huge experience of and love for the marque. Consequently, it’s not surprising that several Jaguar records have fallen as a result of cars going under the Barons hammer. Barons have also sold Jaguars with fascinating histories, including ‘WAG 7’, the ex-Wilkie Wilkinson 1961 S1 E-type FHC. This was sold on behalf of the estate of the world-famous bodybuilder Charles 'Wag' Bennett. Bennett is perhaps best known for discovering Arnold Schwarzenegger - who would, in later years, refer to him as his ‘British father’.

However, it’s not all British cars that do well at Barons sales. Virtually every make and nationality of car has passed through the Barons saleroom and the company has sold a number of celebrity cars including ones once owned by Britt Ekland, Peter Sellers, Frank Sinatra and Stanley Kubrick. Motorcycles, automobilia and registration numbers have also gone under the hammer at Barons.

Barons’ main venue throughout the past two decades has been Sandown Park Racecourse, though it has also held sales in venues as diverse at Donington Park, Tattersalls at Newmarket and Burghley House and also overseas.

However, Sandown Park remains the location of choice. Why? It’s simple: location, location, location, plus the outstanding facilities. Barons have buyers coming from all over the world, and they can land at Heathrow and be at Sandown Park very quickly, and it’s also very convenient for UK buyers to reach. Fast Fords have a strong presence in the sale, highlighted by a 1983 Ford Fiesta XR2 MK1 estimated at £13,000 to £16,000. Finished in Caspian Blue with the iconic XR2 graphics, along with a Grey Cloth interior, this Fiesta has covered just 52,000 miles. A 1990 Ford Escort RS Cosworth in the sale estimated at £38,000 to £42,000 has covered just 22,538 miles under two owners. Finished in Ash Black with a grey cloth interior, the Cossie provides a real opportunity for buyers as one of the most highly sought after fast Fords on the market. Another low mileage Ford in the sale is a 1987 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands with an astonishingly low mileage of just 15,185 miles. One of only 1,038 cars built, this Capri is beautifully finished in Brooklands Green Metallic with a Raven Black leather interior piped in red. Presenting in phenomenal condition this Capri is truly one of the best cars on the market currently.

Bringing the Italian exotica to the auction is a 2004 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti finished in a subtle shade of Nero with a gorgeous tan leather interior. With just 38,000 miles this fabulous, four seater Ferrari has just had a full wheel refurbishment and is estimated at £42,000 to £50,000. At the other end of the scale, a little 1969 Fiat 500 F will be offered with an estimate of £9,000 to £11,000. This rare UK supplied right-hand drive model has covered less than 1,000 miles since a ground-up restoration in 2011. A 1992 Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 1 on offer is sure to attract rally fans. Estimated at £30,000 to £35,000, the Integrale is finished in a perfect combination of Monza Red with a Black perforated leather interior.

AUBURN, Indiana (4 September 2018) – RM Auctions celebrated a now 48-year Labor Day tradition this past weekend with its annual Auburn Fall sale (30 August – 2 September) at the Auburn Auction Park in Indiana. The four days of spirited auction action resulted in $21.7 million in total sales, with a strong 81 percent of all lots sold, representing a 12 percent increase in sales over 2017.

Collectors and enthusiasts flooded the Auburn Auction Park to view the more than 700 cars on offer and activities for the entire family to enjoy, with record crowds across Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Bidders hailed from 14 countries and 45 states across the U.S., with more than 30 percent representing first-time RM Auctions clientele.

The top sale of the auction was the 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, a first-year example which sold for a final $852,500 just after it crossed the block. The result was closely followed by motor cars from the highly-anticipated Richard L. Burdick Collection, most notably by the 1929 Duesenberg Model J Sedan with period coachwork by Derham/Bohman & Schwartz, which incited a bidding competition between bidders in the room and on the phone before selling for a final $737,000 to a private onsite bidder. The 1929 Auburn 120 Eight Speedster from the collection also saw significant interest, achieving a final $330,000 against a pre-sale estimate of $150k-$200k. Rounding out the ACD trio offered from the collection, the 1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet exceeded high estimate at $165,000. Additional cars from the Burdick Collection will be offered at RM Sotheby’s Group events across 2018 and 2019.

RM Auctions also saw strong results for additional vehicles offered from private collections at Auburn Fall, including for a 2006 Ford GT displaying only 4.4 miles, which sold for a final $357,500 to cheers from the crowd. The Shrine of the Holy Grille Collection, which featured one of the most comprehensive groups of Edsel motor cars in the world, also drew strong interest on Friday, with record prices for the marque achieved. Meanwhile, the 1976 Ford Escort 1100 GL Sedan formerly owned by Saint Pope John Paul II saw interest from collectors both in the room and on the phone, eventually bringing a final $121,000 with proceeds to benefit the O’Quinn Foundation

Auburn continues to be a strong venue for not only American collectibles, but also European classics and exotics. Just a few lots after the 1970 Plymouth Superbird achieved an above-estimate $173,250 on Saturday, a 2011 Porsche 911 Speedster brought in $222,750, nearly hitting its high estimate. Earlier in the sale, spirited bidding in the room brought a professionally restored 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2-Litre Roadster to a final price of $148,500.
