A MAMMOTH MINI ADVENTURE, FIVE MINI DERIVATIVES GOING TO AUCTION

Five superb variations of the Mini, all with fascinating stories, are set to go under the hammer at Classic Car Auctions March sale held at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show.

The Mini which celebrated a significant birthday throughout 2019 continues to hold the limelight and is one of the most recognisable cars on the road. It also spawned a number of derivatives making it an extremely versatile car for its size.

Classic Car Auctions have five versions in their March sale on the 28th and 29th at the NEC in Birmingham which will certainly get the enthusiasts fired up.

Bought 58 years ago this 1962 Austin Mini Cooper MK1 has remained with its first and only owner for its entire life achieving a staggering 300,000 miles. Now in need of restoration but still in regular use, this Mini apparently goes like the clappers with an 850cc short-stroke in place over the original 997 and will be driven to the auction.

Originally presented in Almond Green with an Old English White roof, it is now in red but retains the original Dove Grey/Porcelain Green interior vinyl.

With a very desirable and valuable registration of 150 FOC and estimated at £12,000 to £15,000 this is a Mini with a maxi story.

“These are great cars and they all come with their own unique story and have wonderful characters. The 300,000 mile MK1 Cooper is staggering and has the most fascinating story,” commented Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions Manager.

“The vendor told us it was bought new for him by his mother-in-law because she didn’t like his choice of cars to drive her daughter around in!”

One of the Mini variations was the Moke, originally designed for military use and to be parachuted into action, but due to ground clearance issues, it wasn’t to be. However, it found a different audience across the world and developed a cult following as an easily maintainable recreational vehicle.

The first Mokes were produced in Birmingham at BMC’s Longbridge plant between 1964 and 1968. In later years they were produced in Australia and Portugal with production ending in 1993.

Classic Car Auctions have this UK supplied 1968 Austin Mini Moke which has been with the vendor for the last 13 years. Finished in white with 89,000 miles on the clock, this car is well presented but with age-related wear, however with a little bit of work could be made Concours. Estimated at £10,000 to £12,000 this a great car for the summer.

The Innocenti Mini Cooper was built between 1965 and 1975 with production taking place in Italy. The Export 1300 was the most popular and what made it stand out from other Minis was the black plastic grille and plastic chrome Innocenti badge and side repeaters on the front wings amongst other small details.

This 1975 Innocenti Mini Cooper Export 1300 was imported in 1982 and then re-shelled. In 2014 the current vendor purchased the car which was in great condition but needed some of the missing Innocenti details. This he did and three years ago had the car re-sprayed and re-trimmed correctly.

Estimated at £12,000 to £15,000 this is one of the last Export 1300s and is presented in great condition after a faithful restoration. It also comes with a good history file with brochures, handbooks, workshop manual and spares.

Our fourth Mini derivative is this wonderful 1962 Austin Mini Seven Pick-up. In 2004 it was rescued by the current vendor a known marque specialist and restored to the superb condition it is now presented in. In 2010 a bare metal restoration got underway, it was returned to the original Tweed Grey paintwork and Tan interior. The original engine was re-installed along with all period correct features.

In 2011 this little Pick-up was featured on the cover of the Mini World magazine, such was the detail of the restoration. Estimated at £16,000 to £20,000 this is a cracking, accurately restored Pick-up.

Our final Mini is the 25th Anniversary edition. Amazingly this 1984 Mini 25 has just 8,730 miles on the clock. The first and second owner did near equal mileage in the time they owned it. The current vendor, a marque specialist, has owned the car since 2016 and has kept in excellent condition, it scores 115 out 135 on the condition report. It has had little use on the road and when it has gone out it has been by trailer to shows.

Estimated at £6,000 to £8,000 it comes with great originality, history and a fresh MOT.

Viewing takes place on the 27th March between 10am and 5.30pm with the auction getting underway on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th from 12pm.

MODERN AND EVERYMAN CLASSICS AT CCA SALE IN OCTOBER 

1991 Porsche 928 GT

Classic Car Auctions forthcoming sale is offering some great modern and Everyman classics at their October sale on the 5^th October at the Warwickshire Event Centre.

Two fabulous British classics being offered are a 1969 Mini Cooper Mk2 and a 1966 Morris Minor Series V alongside two Bavarian bruisers, a cherished and rare Porsche 928 GT and a BMW Z3M.

The ultimate Porsche 928 is coming to market and this one is special. It is one of 38 right-hand drive GTs and this 1991 edition is finished in the popular colour choice of Guards Red which has been colour corrected and ceramic coated. This 5.0-litre powerhouse has had one previous owner and been with the current one since 2008.

Estimated at £25,000 to £30,000 this is a very smart Porsche which has been clearly cherished and maintained with just 120,000 miles. With a recent timing belt change and other mechanical works to be done prior to the sale it also comes with a spreadsheet to include some history, MOTs and other works. These are rare and sought after cars and will no doubt be a popular car on sale day.

 1969 Austin Mini Cooper Mk II

With Mini celebrating its 60^th birthday, this is a great year to acquire one of Britain’s most famous small cars. CCA have a lovely 1969 Austin Mini Cooper Mk2, matching numbers and sympathetically restored car. Estimated at £20,000 to £25,000 this is a well-prepared car featuring a new Webasto vinyl roof and refinished in its original colours of Island Blue and contrasting Snowberry White roof. This car has been with the current owner since 2010 and comes with detailed history from this point, along with a Heritage Certificate. These are very popular cars and this one will make a great purchase.

Another great British classic is the Morris Minor and what a superb example CCA have got in their sale. Offered at £5,000 to £7,000 this final version 1966 series V looks superb in Birch Grey with a red interior and with 37,000 miles on the clock. This 1098cc car has had just three former keepers and comes with old MOTs dating back to 2000 and will be supplied with a fresh one prior to sale. A great entry-level classic, one not to be missed.

Introduced in 1998 the BMW Z3M Roadster took BMWs little two-seater to a new level with production only running until 2002. CCA have a great early version, finished in Estoril Blue with blue and black Nappa leather interior this 3.2-litre S50 engine car comes with just under 97,000 miles on the clock and an MOT. Sensibly guided at £8,000 to £10,000 this is a great opportunity into M-Sport ownership.

CLASSIC MINI COOPER S WAVES THE FLAG AT BARONS’ BRITISH HERITAGE, CLASSIC & SPORTS CARS SALE

After consolidating its strong start to 2019 by selling 63% of the lots on offer in its April sale, Barons is now looking forward to its British Heritage, Classic & Sports Cars sale next Tuesday, June 4 at Sandown Park.

Appropriately, in the 60th anniversary year of one of the most famous British cars of all time, one of the featured lots is a charismatic 1966 1275cc Austin Mini Cooper S. This lovely little car has recently been re-commissioned, has a Heritage Certificate confirming its originality and has a guide price of £38,000-£45,000. The sale also includes a 1970 Morris Mini Cooper S complete with Union Jack roof. Comprehensively restored ten years ago and fitted with a Richard Longman fast road 1380cc engine with Omega pistons, built into a chemically cleaned and crack tested A+ block, the car has only covered around 6,000 miles since restoration and has been used mainly in the dry. It has a guide price of £18,000-£24,000.

One particularly notable British machine is the 1975 MG BGT V8. Powered by the 3,528 cc Rover V8 engine, this extremely rare factory MG BGT V8 has just been recommissioned and is in its original colour of Tundra Green. The last registered owner in the log book owned the car from 1982 and covered a genuine 79,000 miles in 44 years. Guide price: £16,000-£20,000.

The 2006 TVR Tuscan Mk 3 in the sale is the last Mk 3 to come out of the TVR gates before the factory closed its doors forever. Only 26 Mk3s were built. This very desirable British sports car has a guide price of £28,000-£34,000.

Other British entries include a 1967 Sunbeam Alpine Series V GT with a meticulously maintained history file documenting the car’s car by a small series of long-term owners (£9,000-£12,000) and, for those looking for a potential future classic, a 414bhp 2007 Vauxhall VXR8 (£11,000-£14,000).

Non-British cars going under the hammer on June 4 include a handsome and rare 1931 Nash Eight-90 series limousine in superb condition. It has resided in the UK since the 1940s and been owned by the same family ever since it was imported. It carries a guide price of £28,000-£34,000. Another rarity is the 1982 Bitter SC (£12,000-£15,000), one of only 29 made for the UK market, and the dealer demonstrator car for the then importer/distributor Woodhouse. Designed with the help of legendary designer Giovanni Michelotti and produced in Turin Italy, just 461 examples were built between 1979 and 1984.

The sale also features a stunning American ‘muscle car’. The rare 1973 454 (7.4 ltr) big block manual Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Targa is from the last year of factory chrome bumper models and has a guide price of £25,000-£29,000.

Barons’ April 30 sale continues strong 2019 trend

British cars also fared well in Barons’ April Spring Classic sale, with a 1972 Jaguar E-type V12 convertible achieving the highest price of the day, exceeding estimate to sell for £46,200, and Land Rover, Aston Martin and MG all featuring in the top ten results.

Another notable Jaguar result was the 1973 XJ Series 2 pre-production coupé, chassis number 2, used by Jaguar’s then Chief Engineer Jim Randle as his company car and subsequently owned by Thoroughbred and Classic Cars magazine, where it featured many times. In need of full restoration and offered at no reserve, this ‘garden find’ sold for £5,830.

Other interesting lots sold in April included a remarkably original 1967 MG 1100 which has clocked up just 27,500 warranted miles and sold for £8,250 and a 1992 Rover Maestro whose owner has transformed it back to its original state; it was a police vehicle with the Lancashire Constabulary! This ‘arresting’ machine was taken into custody by its new owner when it sold for £3,850.

A MINI ITALIAN BIRTHDAY AT CCA’S PRACTICAL CLASSICS AND RESTORATION SHOW SALE

The Classic Car Auction (CCA) sale on the 23rd and 24th March, at the Practical Classics Restoration Show, is set to feature four classic Minis marking special moments in the marques 60th anniversary year.

The mighty Mini, a true icon of British motoring history, is celebrating not only its 60thanniversary but also 50 years of its star role in the famous film, The Italian Job.

CCA is offering for auction, four fabulous editions amongst a range of these super little cars from this wonderful British marque. A one owner 1963 Mini, a Mr Bean replica, a low mileage “Italian Job” Limited Edition and a Rover Mini Cooper Sport all looking for a new home.

The 1963 Austin Mini 850 in bright red with only 47,000 miles is being offered with extensive history. This is a wonderfully presented one owner car which is sure to provide lots of fun for its next owner. In the late 80s,

it had a full body restoration and glass out respray and has been stored in a heated garage. It comes with a Heritage certificate and the Buff log book.

For fans of the bumbling Mr Bean, a replica of the car made famous in the hit TV series is now being offered. This car was treated to a bare metal restoration project by Practical Classics magazine and assembled live at the 2017 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. It is now looking for a new home, after being with the current owner for the last three years. A fabulous little car with some modern tweaks and upgrades. Will provide lots of fun.

The Italian Job, one of the finest movies of all time and made famous with the iconic car chase involving three Minis led to a limited edition version of the little car. Offered for sale is a 1992 low mileage limited edition, one of 250 produced in white with black stripes and is in immaculate condition, regularly serviced and maintained to a very high standard.

Production of the Mini was nearing its end in 2000 and one of the final versions to leave the plant was a Red Rover Mini Cooper Sport. CCA have for auction a similar model with just 30,700 miles on the clock. This Mini Cooper Sport has silver detailing to compliment the Solar Red bodywork.
