RM Auctions is delighted to announce that the company’s annual South Florida sale will move to Palm Beach International Raceway for 2020, on the weekend of 20 March. Now in its 18^th year for 2020, RM Auctions event has long been regarded as South Florida’s premier collector car auction while being held at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center for the last several years.

The Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) is an iconic track with a fascinating history of drag racing and road racing in Florida. A legendary institution dating back to 1964, PBIR plays hosts to additional collector car events, including the Cavallino Classic, and will offer RM Auctions an ideal space for the Palm Beach sale. Located near Jupiter, Florida, PBIR is accessibly located for RM Auctions clients and attendees, near multiple major Atlantic coast airports.

The 2020 Palm Beach sale follows RM Auctions best-ever results in South Florida, achieved earlier this year when the auction house’s Fort Lauderdale auction totalled more than $23.2 million with 80 per cent of all lots sold across a two-day auction at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. The Convention Center will be undergoing a major expansion and remodel over the next year, necessitating the change in venue. The 2019 sale saw its highest total yet, achieved by a smaller, higher quality offering, and led by some of the most valuable motor cars ever presented at the event, including a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari at $3,080,000, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing at $1,155,000, and additional cars from the Youngtimer Collection.

CALL OF THE WILD AS JAGUARS GATHER AT CCA AUCTION

Classic Car Auctions (CCA) sale on the 23rd and 24th March, at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show, will see a large variety of Jaguars being offered for sale, from modern luxury to the classic style.

The auction will see over fifteen Jaguars with some wonderful examples of the XJS, 340, XJ8 and the classic E- Type being offered.

Leading the charge is a 1970 E-type Series 2 roadster in silver, with an incredibly low mileage of just 26,100 miles, which is believed to be correct according to a respected marque expert. This car is a left-hand drive model, which is unrestored and largely original and presented in sparkling condition winning the Concours d’Elegance at the Jaguar Club North America. The car is accompanied by its heritage certificate, history file and Concours trophies. The estimate for this car is £50,000 to £60,000.

The Jaguar Mark2 was made famous by the TV series Inspector Morse and CCA have for auction a lovely Mark 2 Jaguar 340, one of the last editions of this model. This is a 1968 3.4 and has been in the same ownership for the last 24 years. The car was subject to a bare metal strip and repainted in Connaught green and fully retrimmed in 1990 with a green short pile Wilton carpet and magnolia and green piped seats. In 2015 – 2017 the car was treated to a full mechanical and electrical restoration, including the engine, by JLR Classic. This car has been maintained to a high standard and been kept in dry storage for the last few years. This is a great stylish British classic to own and is estimated at £15,00 to £18,000.

If you fancy something more modern and elegant, how about this one owner from new 1999 Jaguar XJ8. A fabulous investment here for a prospecting collector, as this car has only 12,300 miles on the clock and comes with an extensive history file. Presented in cardinal red, with a light mushroom leather interior and accompanied by a selection of Jaguar branded clothing and images of its production, this is one elegant and stylish Jaguar for an estimate of £8,000 to £10,000.

The Jaguar XJS was marketed as a luxury grand tourer and CCA have this lovely 1990 5.3 V12 convertible in signal red with magnolia hide interior to get you purring. This particular car has been impeccably maintained and comes with an extensive history file and a Jaguar Heritage certificate. Last service by Jaguar Classics in March 2018 and benefitting from some subtle upgrades, this XJS is completely unrestored and has just 34,620 miles from new and now being offered for an estimate of £16,000 to £20,000.

CONTINENTAL CARS TO CAUSE COMMOTION AT FORTHCOMING CCA AUCTION

German engineering and Italian glamour will grace the forthcoming Classic Car Auctions (CCA) sale on the 23rd and 24th March, at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show.

Amongst the cars offered are the cult classic Audi Quattro, Italian glamour from Alfa Romeo with the Giulia Sprint GT Veloce and the classic and beautifully style Mercedes Pagoda plus a super rare Porsche Carrera 2 Cabriolet.

For those that remember Ashes to Ashes, the Audi Quattro was made famous by Philip Glenister and the phrase “Fire up the Quattro” which led to a cult following and in rallying is where they really made their mark claiming many wins in famous hands. So, when a really fabulous example becomes available people tend to get quite excited. CCA have this “out of the box” 1986 time warp example, which for the first 30 years had just two owners. The car is finished in solid white with an unmarked black interior and graced the front cover of Classic and Sports Car in October 2016. The car has covered 76,500 miles and still has the original Whitehouse Audi stickers and dealer plates with an estimate of £30,000 to £35,000. If white isn’t your colour, there is a second Audi in Tornado Red in the same sale for £25,000 to £30,000.

A bit of Italian glamour will grace the auction with a lovely little Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce from 1967. This car has had just five owners and was subject to a full restoration between 2007 and 2010 and comes with photographic evidence of the restoration. The paintwork was treated to a light refresh in 2018 and has been recently serviced so is ready to go to a new home with an estimate of £20,000 to £25,000.

One of the stand out Porsches in the sale is a 1992 edition of the 911 (964) Carrera 2 Cabriolet. This is a fine looking car and is 1 of only 24 that came to the UK in right-hand drive and in wide body form. The car is in wonderful condition throughout and has recently been serviced. Estimated at £42,000 to £47,000 and with summer just around the corner this could be the car to enjoy.

CCA has two Mercedes “Pagodas” in the sale and 1967 250 SL is a fabulously presented car in cherry red. This is a left-hand drive version which was imported into the UK in 2015 and has since undergone restoration with a full body respray, new chrome, interior, engine and other mechanicals. The car has been with the owner for the last four years and comes with a matching hard top and a new tan soft top. A beautiful car estimated at £50,000 to £60,000. If red isn’t your colour, then a silver 230 SL Pagoda is being offered in left-hand drive and in a very presentable condition.

1951 Land Rover Series 1

The Classic Car Auctions (CCA) sale on the 23rd and 24th March, at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show will feature a variety of British classics to go under the hammer.

A number of Land Rovers will be up for auction with a 1951 Series 1 leading the charge. Land Rovers have become such an iconic vehicle in British motoring history, rarely changing in design until now with the imminent launch of the new Defender. Series 1 Land Rovers are always in hot demand and CCA have this lovely 1951 edition in traditional green with a Land Rover Heritage certificate. With a low estimate of £12,000, this looks to be a great offering.

Carrying on the British theme, a really splendid 1968 Jenson Interceptor Mk1 is being offered. This is an automatic version with the Chrysler 6.3 V8 fitted and only 84,000 miles. The car has had some of the bodywork refreshed in 1992 with new panels and floorpan. It comes with an extensive history file and the original bill of sale. With Jenson prices having been depressed the last few years, there now appears to be a resurgence, according to specialists Cropredy Bridge. Could this be the time to own an appreciating asset?

With the summer months coming shortly, now could be the time to indulge in some true comfort, a 1985 Rolls Royce Corniche to float around the UK lanes or even take to Europe as this car is left-hand drive. It grew up in New York before being imported to the UK in 2014 where it is now registered with 70,050 miles on the clock. The car had been in storage for the last couple of years but has since been re-commissioned for sale. This car is one of several Rolls Royces being offered.

If you fancy something a bit more sportier, CCA have a 1999 Aston Martin DB7 Coupe. This car was supplied new in the UK before it was exported to Canada and then returned to the UK two years ago. It has a very low indicated mileage of 25,122 miles and has been fastidiously maintained. Finished in British Racing Green with green piped parchment leather interior, this is a fabulous example to own.

With further lots from other British manufacturers, Lotus, Jaguar, Bentley, TVR, Rover and Triumph, there will be plenty to bid for depending on your budget.

PORSCHE’S 356 SPEEDSTER ICON JOINS RACE RETRO AUCTION

An original Porsche 356 A Speedster, one of the most collectable Porsche models in the world, will be offered for sale at Silverstone Auctions’ upcoming Race Retro Sale on 23rdFebruary at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry.

Recognised globally as the ultimate small sports car for its nimble, lightweight and timeless, simple shape, the example for sale is one of an estimated 555 356 A T2 Speedsters built in 1958, the final and most desirable production run of the model.

Presented today in beautifully restored condition and converted to right-hand drive, the matching numbers Speedster will go under the hammer guided at £280,000 - £320,000.

“This is one of the best examples of a genuine Porsche collector’s car that we have had the pleasure to offer at auction,” comments Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions. “Over the past few decades, the 356 Speedster has become an automotive icon and is very much sought-after by enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. These days, replicas are popular with enthusiasts, but there’s nothing like an original, which is what we have here.”

This particular example was supplied new through well-known Porsche dealer Hoffman of New York finished in Silver with a Red leather interior. Distinctive features of the model include the low, removable windscreen, lightweight body, minimal folding top and side curtains in the place of side windows. The minimalist interior includes a large, two-spoke steering wheel, lightweight racing-style bucket seats, light grey carpet, and leather covered door panels and upper dashboard.

Located at the rear of the car, a 1,582cc flat-four engine capable of producing 60bhp with 4-speed transmission offers the sporting performance that made the Speedster popular with owners who enjoyed taking to the race track. The T2 models also benefit from numerous upgrades, including an improved transaxle and steering box design, among other refinements.

Having spent most of its life in America, the Speedster was acquired by its current owner, a serious and noted collector, from an auction at Pebble Beach, California, in 2015. It was then imported into the UK and immediately entrusted to JD Classics of Mayfair for a professional conversion to right-hand drive.

Today the car still retains the original engine and gearbox, making it a full matching numbers example. The Porsche Kardex also confirms it was originally supplied in Silver with Red leather, the same combination and specification of the car today.

Having spent the last few years in professional storage with little use, the Speedster now comes to market from a significant collection with all import taxes paid and the UK registered.

“The Speedster variant captured the imagination of A-list celebrities and film stars across the world and today offers the potential buyer a rare Porsche icon that can be used and enjoyed, whilst still offering a true chance of a solid investment,” concludes Nick.

The Porsche is accompanied by a CD showing the full restoration, a copy of the Porsche Kardex, original owner’s manual, tools and jack.

A MINI ITALIAN BIRTHDAY AT CCA’S PRACTICAL CLASSICS AND RESTORATION SHOW SALE

The Classic Car Auction (CCA) sale on the 23rd and 24th March, at the Practical Classics Restoration Show, is set to feature four classic Minis marking special moments in the marques 60th anniversary year.

The mighty Mini, a true icon of British motoring history, is celebrating not only its 60thanniversary but also 50 years of its star role in the famous film, The Italian Job.

CCA is offering for auction, four fabulous editions amongst a range of these super little cars from this wonderful British marque. A one owner 1963 Mini, a Mr Bean replica, a low mileage “Italian Job” Limited Edition and a Rover Mini Cooper Sport all looking for a new home.

The 1963 Austin Mini 850 in bright red with only 47,000 miles is being offered with extensive history. This is a wonderfully presented one owner car which is sure to provide lots of fun for its next owner. In the late 80s,

it had a full body restoration and glass out respray and has been stored in a heated garage. It comes with a Heritage certificate and the Buff log book.

For fans of the bumbling Mr Bean, a replica of the car made famous in the hit TV series is now being offered. This car was treated to a bare metal restoration project by Practical Classics magazine and assembled live at the 2017 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. It is now looking for a new home, after being with the current owner for the last three years. A fabulous little car with some modern tweaks and upgrades. Will provide lots of fun.

The Italian Job, one of the finest movies of all time and made famous with the iconic car chase involving three Minis led to a limited edition version of the little car. Offered for sale is a 1992 low mileage limited edition, one of 250 produced in white with black stripes and is in immaculate condition, regularly serviced and maintained to a very high standard.

Production of the Mini was nearing its end in 2000 and one of the final versions to leave the plant was a Red Rover Mini Cooper Sport. CCA have for auction a similar model with just 30,700 miles on the clock. This Mini Cooper Sport has silver detailing to compliment the Solar Red bodywork.

Following enthusiastic bidding and the successful sale of desirable American Classics at the company’s recent Arizona auction, RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce important Classic Era entries for its 21^st annual Amelia Island auction on 8-9 March at the Ritz-Carlton. The group is led by a stunning 1930 Duesenberg Model J ‘Sweep Panel’ Dual-Cowl Phaeton by LeBaron.

The Duesenberg Model J nicknamed the “Duesy,” represents anything truly great or grand. It was bankrolled by E.L. Cord and designed from the outset to be the world’s finest car. When the Model J debuted at the New York Auto Salon on 1 December 1928, its launch dominated newspaper headlines. Today, the Model J still marks the crowning achievement of the Classic Era.  

Interestingly, of the mere 18 examples ever produced of the ‘Sweep Panel’ Dual-Cowl Phaeton body style, engine no. J-487 is the one and only example on the long 153½-in. wheelbase. This Duesenberg, fully restored to concours-quality from the ground up by the renowned Fran Roxas, is finished in a stunning rich black and café au lait combination, highlighted by a subtle red pinstripe that delineates the iconic sweep panel, providing a handsome match to the tan cloth top and sumptuous leather interior, with its distinctive engine-turned dashboard. It is an exceptional example of the marque, and one with a known and continuous history from new, which has always been well maintained and cared for throughout its life, as evidenced by its ACD Club Category One Certification (Est. $1,600,000 – $2,000,000).

Further significant pre-war automobiles sure to draw attention in Amelia Island include the only factory non-supercharged 1935 Auburn Eight Custom Speedster, a sought-after Classic in today’s market, offered without reserve from the esteemed Richard L. Burdick Collection, from which strong results were achieved in Arizona ($500,000 – $650,000, offered without reserve); an authentic 1934 Packard Twelve Convertible Sedan Custom, offered fresh to the market following an exceptional restoration (Est. $1,250,000 – $1,500,000); a 1931 Packard Deluxe Eight Convertible Roadster by Derham, formerly of the Julian Eccles and James Weston Collections, coming to Amelia Island complete with its original chassis, engine and bodywork (Est. $650,000 – $750,000); and, formerly of the Imperial Palace and Michael Calore Collections, a 1932 Stutz DV-32 Convertible Victoria by Rollston, one of just five built to this design on DV-32 chassis and an AACA and CCCA 100-point Senior First Prize winner (Est. $750,000 - $1,000,000).

Ten Brass and Classic Era motor cars will cross the RM Sotheby’s block in Amelia Island, entirely without reserve, following decades of careful stewardship in The Leon-Hackey Collection, a long-standing, true enthusiast name in the hobby. Highlights include:

• 1909 Delaunay-Belleville Type IA Victoria by Brewster, a prized part of the collection since 1975, having had only three additional owners from new. This is one of the great French Brass Era automobiles, wearing elaborate Victorian coachwork by one of America’s finest coachbuilders (Est. $250,000 - $325,000); and,
• 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental Close-Coupled Saloon by Barker, a centerpiece of the collection since 1978, formerly owned by Hollywood legend Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., wearing sporting one-off coachwork with numerous unique features, and complete with original chassis, engine and body as delivered in 1934 (Est. $350,000 - $450,000).
