STUNNING FERRARI AND PORSCHE OFFERED DIRECT FROM THE COLLECTION OF JAY KAY
Silverstone Auctions are very proud to be offering four limited in numbers and rare cars from very well known and respected car collectors and connoisseurs with rock and roll and motorsport history.
Jamiroquai frontman, Jay Kay is offering two incredible cars direct from his eclectic collection. Also offered is a very rare Porsche Speedster once owned by the Indycar Champion Dario Franchitti and imported to the UK by him when he moved here. Silverstone Auctions are also very proud to be offering not one but two Ferrari Daytonas, one formerly owned by rock legend Sir Elton John and the second formerly owned by legendary Ecurie Ecosse Le Mans racer Tommy Dickson.
It is always exciting to see what comes from the superb eclectic collection of car connoisseur, Jay Kay. The two cars he is now offering at the Sale of Ferraris and Porsches are simply superb.
The first is the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4, is one of only 505 cars produced and was imported by Joe Macari in 2014 and restored by them to Concours standard prior to Jay Kay purchasing the car at the London Classic Car Show in 2016. Like all of Jay Kay’s cars, the Ferrari has been properly stored and looked after and is ready to go for a sensibly estimated £200,000 to £260,000. The 365 GTC/4 has a lot in common with the larger 365 GTB/4 but was aimed at being a more comfortable grand tourer.
Nick Whale Silverstone Auctions Managing Director got a chance to drive this car and commented: “This car turned out to be the best driving Ferrari built in the 1970s that I have ever experienced. It has refinement in terms of both ride and noise levels, way beyond any reasonable expectations and furthermore, it has performance and handling to match. The engine just purrs at tick over and from there it delivers amazing quantities of both torque and power in a smooth and quietly progressive manner. In short, it's a real drivers’ car that you could cover serious miles in with no concerns about comfort and reliability. I absolutely love it!"
The second car Jay Kay is offering is a final version of the 991 a 2015 Porsche 911 Turbo S. The S is traditionally offered to the last of the line models signifying the ultimate development. This UK supplied car that was first registered as a dealer demonstrator with a very significant options list, became the property of Jay Kay a month later in April 2015. Estimated at £100,000 to £120,000 this four-wheel drive, 5,000 miles from new, seven-speed Porsche is a superb opportunity to own not just a car with celebrity provenance but a car from the collection of music legend Jay Kay.
Moving on from the world of musician owned cars, our next lot is a 1994 Porsche 911 (964) Speedster estimated at £125,000 to £150,000 formerly owned by multiple IndyCar Series Champion and Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti. This Porsche is one of 469 made for the North American market out of fewer than 1,000 made globally. Presented in the desirable Guards Red, this Porsche was purchased by Dario Franchitti in 2010 whilst he was racing for Chip Ganassi Racing. When he retired and moved to the UK he brought the car over and registered it with the DVLA. The car remains in outstanding condition and comes with the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and original marketing brochure amongst all the paperwork. This is an incredibly rare car with just 19,279 miles from new and with excellent motorsport owned provenance. A great addition to any Porsche collection.
Our final cars in the release are not one but two right-hand drive 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytonas. The first is one, formerly owned by Sir Elton John. Registered new on the 3rd August 1972 by Maranello Concessionaires, the documents show that Sir Elton John, who has an enviable car collection of some of the finest classic cars, owned this stunning Daytona from 1973 to 1975, purchasing the car off the back of the success of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and among the first Ferraris owned by the rock star at the start of his music career.
This matching numbers car with known ownership from new, is one of only 158 genuine right-hand-drive UK-supplied Daytonas. Sold by Silverstone Auctions two years ago and is now being offered by the deceased’s estate at the Sale of Ferraris offered at £425,000 to £475,000.
Our second Daytona is estimated at £475,000 to £525,000 and is also a rare right-hand-drive car which comes with a Ferrari Classiche Certificate. Dealer owned for a number of years at which point it was owned by Tommy Dixon, famous Ecurie Ecosse Le Mans racer, of Dixons of Perth. Foskers have compiled a four-page document on the ownership and service history of this car, detailing all the significant changes in the car’s history and very impressive it is. Our vendor purchased the car in 2016 and asked prior to purchase, the hugely knowledgeable John Pogson MIMI to carry out a pre-sale report. All the items raised in the report appear to have been addressed and in the summer of 2016, the car was awarded the legendary and highly desirable Classiche Certificate.
John Pogson reported just recently: “The originality and patina in this car are amazing and one of the best I’ve ever seen, very hard to find this level today. No faults to report. This is one of the best, most rewarding Daytonas I’ve ever driven.”
Nick Whale commented: “We are always delighted to work with cars that come from such historical provenance and when Jay Kay offers us a car to sell we always know it has been very well looked after and one that is significant. He, after all, has an enviable and eclectic collection of cars.”
“These cars offered in our forthcoming sale on the 21st September at the Dallas Burston Polo Club are simply superb, very desirable and from limited production runs. It is not often that you have two right-hand drive 365 GTB/4 Daytonas to offer.”
