SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS LAUNCHES THE OPENING OF THEIR NEC SHOW CATALOGUE WITH A VERY RARE EX-WORKS TRIUMPH TR2

SILVERSTONE AUCTIONS LAUNCHES THE OPENING OF THEIR NEC SHOW CATALOGUE WITH A VERY RARE EX-WORKS TRIUMPH TR2
The ex-Works 1955 Le Mans 24-hours Triumph TR2
Silverstone Auctions has opened its catalogue for entries to the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show with a very rare and important car from British motorsport, the ex-works Triumph TR2 which finished 19th at the 1955 Le Mans.
The Triumph TR2 was launched in 1952 and was soon in great demand becoming very successful in motorsport competition. Motorsport was a great way for manufacturers to promote their cars and in 1954 a TR2 was privately entered into the Le Mans 24 Hours race and finished a credible 15th.
This prompted Standard-Triumph Ltd to enter a works team in 1955 with three cars all in the British Racing Green colours with consecutive number plates PKV 374, PKV 375, PKV 376.
The car offered is one of these three works cars, PKV 374, driven by Leslie Brookes and Mortimer Morris-Goodall to 19th place in the 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours race and for a long time was the sole surviving works car.
Sadly the 1955 Le Mans race will be remembered for the huge accident that claiming the lives and injuring many people. Despite the accident, the race continued, and the TRs were running well with PKV 374 easily the fastest of the MGs and TRs averaging 90 mph according to the June Autosport of that year.
PKV 374 had an eventful race, with the car taking an excursion into the gravel trap where it got beached. But after 2.5 hours it was back on track and returning to the pits. For the rest of the race, the car continued with gear selection troubles but still managed to finish 19th just behind the other two works cars.
The late King Hussein of Jordan took a fancy for PKV 374 and whilst the other two cars head back to Coventry PKV 374 was sold to the King and left the circuit straight for Jordan in full Le Mans race trim. In 1956 the King brought the car back to the UK and at the time it was in the Jordanian colours of blue and white with luxurious upholstery. In November of that year, the King sold the car.
After changing hands several times, the car was purchased by the present owner in 1972 which was by now in a poor state and set about restoring the car over a long period of time to its original Le Mans specification.
In 2000 PKV 374 was finally finished and went on to successfully complete the London to Istanbul leg of the Around The World In 80 Days rally. This was the start of the car’s modern era of competition, as it took part in many HERO rally events before it was decided to return the car to Le Mans in 2005 for the One Hour Legends
Race and driven by Tony Dron and Nick Marsh where it suffered fuel issues and retired after 6 laps. Not to be outdone, it returned the following year and finished 5th in class and 23rd overall.
PKV 374 is now being offered with an amazing history, photographs, articles, magazines, race reports and it’s old FIA HTP papers which are now out of date. Offered at £100,000 to £140,000 this is a rare and significant car which is not just any Triumph, but an ex-works car and now offering a unique opportunity to own and compete in exclusive events such as Goodwood, Le Mans Classic and many more.
Adam Rutter Classic Car Specialist for Silverstone Auctions commented: “There is so much history with this car and after 47 years of private family ownership, the car is on the next stage of its adventure, of which it is no stranger.”
“It has been in storage for four years and is now up and running but may require some further fettling to prepare it for competition. The history file is massive there must be at least 6 box files plus folders and other boxes of articles. The car is now in our care and available for private viewings prior to the auction.”
This is the eighth year that Silverstone Auctions have been the official event partner of the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show. With consignments now being invited, Silverstone Auctions have a number of important cars already consigned with four different Aston Martins and an Evanta DBR1 Evocation alongside the ex-works Triumph TR2.
With Aston Martins always proving a popular choice, Silverstone Auctions are proud to be offering such a wide choice of cars including a 1950 DB2 Washboard one of the 49 three grilled examples estimated at £390,00 to £450,00, a 1965 DB5 that was the actual car featured on the Royal Mail Stamp in 2013 at £580,000 to £650,000, a 1966 DB6 at £250,000 to £3000,000, and a V8 Vantage Volante estimated at £170,000 to £190,000.
The Evanta DBR1 Evocation is estimated at £50,000 to £60,00 and was built by the Evanta Motor Company which at the time was owned by Ant Anstead of Wheelers Dealers fame.
Silverstone Auctions are accepting cars for their Classic Motor Show auction on the 9th and 10th November and can be contacted on 01926 691141 or email enquiries@silverstoneauctions.com and would be happy to talk with you and help you through the process of consigning your car, closing date is the 15th October.

ULTRA RARE BUGATTI LEADS BURNETT COLLECTION AT GOODWOOD REVIVAL SALE

ULTRA RARE BUGATTI LEADS BURNETT COLLECTION AT GOODWOOD REVIVAL SALE

From the collection of the late Barry Burnett
1935 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante
Coachwork by Bugatti

Registration no. DYF 4
Chassis no. 57252
An ultra-rare and exceptional 1935 Bugatti Type 57 Atalante Faux Cabriolet will lead a stunning sextet of cars collected by the late Barry Burnett, which will be offered in the Bonhams Goodwood Revival Sale on 14 September.
The Atalante is one of only very few surviving 'Atalante' fixed-head coupés. Having spent its early life in France, the Bugatti crossed the Atlantic in 1957, when purchased by an American collector, before returning to Europe in the 1980s.
Barry encountered the Atalante when it was in the possession of another notable collector, Peter Rae, who had had the car completely restored, although, unusually, it retains its original chassis, engine, gearbox and body, all with matching numbers. Barry acquired it as a straight swap for a Delage, adding its registration 'DYF 4' which once appeared on the Type 57S Atlantic of Sir Malcolm Campbell. The car, finished in striking black and cream coachwork, has an estimate of £1,000,000 – 1,500,000.
West Countryman Burnett was a renowned motor car collector, most famously possessing a Corsica-bodied 1931 Daimler Double Six – the first car he ever purchased – which in later life went on to win the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2006.
Bonhams had the privilege of handling a collection of 28 of Barry's 60 motor cars in the 2009 Beaulieu Sale, which was a huge success.
The other five cars being offered a decade later at Goodwood are an eclectic selection and line up as follows:
1938 Lagonda V12 'Le Mans Replica' Tourer
A pre-production prototype and factory press car which, with Earl Howe at the wheel, set a new national '100-miles-in-the-hour' record at Brooklands in 1938. The Lagonda has been in the Burnett family since 1989. Estimate: £200,000 – 300,000.

1963 Facel Vega Facel II, Estimate £200,000 – 300,000.
One of just 26 right-hand drive versions of the French luxury grand tourer, advertised at the time of production as the fastest 4-seater coupé in the world and driven by a host of notable owners including Pablo Picasso, Tony Curtis, Frank Sinatra, Ava Gardner, Princess Grace of Monaco and Stirling Moss.

1936 Lagonda LG45 Tourer. Estimate £120,000 – 160,000.
1936 Talbot-Lago T23 Le Mans Replica. Estimate £100,000 - 150,000.
Jaguar D-Type Replica. Estimate £40,000 – 70,000.
Sholto Gilbertson, Bonhams Motor Cars Department Director UK, commented: "We are delighted to have been entrusted to offer another bespoke selection from the Burnett stable at this year's Goodwood Revival Sale. It reflects Barry's expert eye for quality and his passion for classic and vintage motor cars."
One fine example of Barry's eye for quality is the opulent 1934 Duesenberg Model J Torpedo Phaeton, which he added to his collection in 2006, and which Bonhams will offer in its Quail Lodge Auction in California on 15 August. Featuring stylish coachwork by renowned Duesenberg restorer Fran Roxas, this is one of the most important models ever produced and has an estimate of $600,000 – 800,000 (£490,000 – 660,000).

A SALE OF FERRARI AND PORSCHE HEADS TO THE DALLAS BURSTON POLO CLUB ON 21ST SEPTEMBER

A SALE OF FERRARI AND PORSCHE HEADS TO THE DALLAS BURSTON POLO CLUB ON 21ST SEPTEMBER
1990 Ferrari 348 TB

Silverstone Auctions next sale will be held at The Dallas Burston Polo Club and will be for a Sale of Ferrari and Porsche on the 21st September.
Held in association with the Porsche Club GB and The Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain, this sale will be a selection of some of the finest sports cars from these German and Italian marques.
Already consigned is a 1990 Ferrari 348 TB. Launched in 1989 this is one of the 60 pre-production models with styling cues taken from the Testarossa, its side strakes and rectangular taillights. When production ceased in 1993, just 2,894 cars had been produced and with such a limited run of cars, this is a great opportunity to acquire 3.4 litre V8 Ferrari which has just 2,500 kilometres on the clock from new. This is one superb car, not only is it is Classiche certified, but it also comes with the completely original luggage set, tools, jack and leather book pack. Offered at £85,000 to £95,000 this left-hand-drive 348 is now UK registered and has been recently serviced by a Ferrari main dealer. This really is one for the collector.
The Porsche 911s from the 1980s are considered to be one of the best designs, with their big whale tails and flared wheel arches for a more sportier appearance. When you get to the level of a Carrera Supersport Cabriolet, well what a stunning car it becomes. It is revered as the ultimate development of the 911. This 1986 version with just over 50,000 miles really looks the part. Presented in black with a cream and black piped leather interior, this two-owner car has recently had a service totalling £5,500 by a marque specialist which also included a new clutch, exhaust, fuel tank and pump. Offered at £55,000 to £65,000 this black beauty comes with its tools and service book.
Harry Whale auction manager for Silverstone Auctions commented: “Our sale of Ferraris and Porsches gives a great opportunity to showcase these fine sportscars.”
“This year will be the first time that we hold the two sales on one day at the Dallas Burston Polo Club. The venue is also great for accessibility with parking very close to the auction and with food on offer from the on-site restaurant.”
“We are of course delighted to be working with our two clubs, this will be our fifth auction with Porsche Club GB and the second with The Ferraris Owners Club of Great Britain.”
Silverstone Auctions are accepting cars for their Sale of Ferraris and Porsche auction and can be contacted on 01926 691141 or email enquiries@silverstoneauctions.comand would be happy to talk with you and help you through the process of consigning your car.
Friday the 21st September will be a viewing day from 1pm to 6pm with the auction of automobilia and cars on the Saturday from 9am.

ENTRIES INVITED FOR BARONS’ JAGUAR HERITAGE, CLASSIC AND SPORTS CARS SALE - SANDOWN PARK, SEPTEMBER 20th

ENTRIES INVITED FOR BARONS’ JAGUAR HERITAGE, CLASSIC AND SPORTS CARS SALE - SANDOWN PARK, SEPTEMBER 20th

Entries are invited for Barons’ annual Jaguar Heritage, Classic and Sports Cars sale, at Sandown Park racecourse on Friday, September 20.
Early Jaguar entries already consigned include an absolutely immaculate and hugely collectable Opalescent silver-grey 1965 E-type Series 1 FHC with Webasto sliding roof. It has been subject to a well-documented professional restoration costing some £60,000 and including a bare metal respray. This stunning example of the most iconic 1960s sports car carries a guide price of £80,000-£95,000.
Non-Jaguar entries include a beautiful 1933 Alvis Firefly. This elegant pre-War British classic was fully restored many years ago and has been lovingly cared for ever since. The guide price for this stylish motor car is £40,000-£50,000.
One unusual early submission - and possibly not one for Jaguar purists but certainly one for lovers of head-turning cars - is the 1959 Challenger E-type replica Mk 1. This unique machine is one of the first-ever Challenger E-types, having been built in Cornwall in 1995 by the Triple C Company before the company moved to the Scottish borders and changed its name to Challenger. So why the 1959 date attribution? That comes from the donor car - a 1959 Rover 90 - and has resulted in the car’s logbook showing it as registered as a 1959 Jaguar E-type, making it the oldest registered ‘E-type’ in the world! In bright red with white hardtop and whitewall tyres, it’s certainly a looker and, with a guide price of £8,000-£12,000, it offers E-type looks combined with a 3.5-litre Rover V8 engine for a decidedly un-E-type price!

FULL HOUSE, ENTHUSIASTIC BIDDING AND GREAT RESULTS FOR CCA AUCTION

FULL HOUSE, ENTHUSIASTIC BIDDING AND GREAT RESULTS FOR CCA AUCTION

The Classic Car Auction on the 3rd August was a resounding success with modern classics coming to the fore and achieving excellent results.
A full house of cars and a healthy crowd of bidders helped CCA to achieve over £1.9 million in sales and a healthy sale rate of 60% cars sold.
The collection of carefully selected high-performance Japanese cars attracted lots of interest leading up to sale day and didn’t disappoint when it mattered. The Honda Integra was first off the block achieving £12,432 followed by Lot 562, the Honda NSX at £53,280, then came the first of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 2 Makkinen Editions Lot 604 at £27,750 with the other at £24,975. It didn’t stop there, the Subaru Impreza P1 achieved £22,755 and the WRX STi £15,762. Lot 619 the Mazda RX-7 came in at £41,625, but the big gun was the 2000 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec which after some fabulous and at the start furious bidding brought the hammer down at £62,715.
From the same collector of the Japanese cars, his astute knowledge paid off again with European cars, Lot 561 the Renault Clio Sport V6 sold for £34,410 and a 2005 BMW M5 Saloon selling for £26,085 and a little Peugeot 205 Rallye gathering £16,650.
Talking of Peugeots, there were a number of these hot hatches in the sale and they were right little crackers too. Lot 505, a 1988 1.9 GTi sold for £8,889, Lot 626 sold for £8,769, the 309 1.9 GTi sold for £12,432 and not to be left behind a 1.6 GTi sold for £9,102. With such a fantastic offering there would always be one for somebody.
Mercedes also proved a popular marque, with convertibles selling well as were some very popular classic designs from the 1970s and 80s. A 2004 SL600 sold for £36,075 and a 1984 230 CE which attracted some very strong bidding sold for £12,432. Lot 682, a 1970 450 SLC proved a popular choice with some fantastic bidding achieving £16,650.
Lot 620, a faithful reproduction of the Range Rover from the James Bond film Octopussy had lots of interest and for the new buyer would present plenty of marketing opportunities and a chance to recoup his investment at £57,720.
With a number of Minis on offer, Cilla Black’s car was always going to attract bidders hoping to own a part of British entertainment. With some lively bidding, it was no surprise the car fetched £20,535.
One of the largest rounds of applause went to the new owner of Lot 602, the 1972 Rover 3.5 Coupe P5B. Again, with lots of interest in this car, it sold for £39,405.
Gary Dunne, Classic Car Auctions auction manager commented: “What a wonderful day of sales! Fabulous to see the room so full of people and to have over 180 cars to choose from made for an exciting day.”
“I think this auction only proved that modern classics are a popular choice and like the Japanese collection will be a great investment in the future.”
“There was some great interaction between the bidders, consigners and the auctioneer who certainly got the room into a frenzy at times and helped us to achieve the results we got.”
