1970s SUPERCAR WEEK AT ONLINE CLASSIC CAR AUCTION HOUSE, THE MARKET

1970s SUPERCAR WEEK AT ONLINE CLASSIC CAR AUCTION HOUSE, THE MARKET

Classic car auction disruptor, The Market, will auction a trio of exemplary 1970s supercars on its online-only bidding portal this week, where buyers pay only what they bid and sellers receive 95 per cent of the sale price.
The three supercars, a Ferrari 308 GTSi, De Tomaso Pantera L and Jensen Interceptor Mk III, offer classic car enthusiasts and collectors the opportunity to buy a magnificent example of an iconic car of the 1970s style and substance era, from the comfort and convenience of their own home.
“All three of these fantastic supercars are achingly beautiful and brutish to drive!” comments Tristan Judge, director at The Market. “Each car has been exceptionally well maintained, either by their owners or marque experts, and each offers both collectability and driveability. With three to choose from, buyers are really spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing their poison!”
The 1982 Ferrari 308 GTSi for sale was purchased by its current owner in 2013 as his ‘forever car’, which marked the start of a comprehensive restoration with renowned specialists, Italia Autosport, to turn a ‘good car’ into a ‘great car’. Having been driven just 400 miles since its completion to near concours standard and reading just 59,400 miles, the now fully fettled 308 GTSi has an estimated value of £44,000 - £50,000, with bidding already underway and ending on 25th September at 8:00pm GMT.
The second supercar is a 1974 De Tomaso Pantera L in highly original condition and finished in a striking orange, reminiscent of the era. Purchased by the current owner from a church which it was donated to, the Pantera has been treated to new suspension, rustproofing, carburettor rebuild and new engine coolant. Estimated at £65,000 - £75,000 with an odometer reading of just 34,000 miles, the online auction of this cult classic will start on 25th September and end on 2nd October at 8:00pm GMT, a timely purchase in the marque’s 60th anniversary year.
The British supercar of the trio, the 1973 Jensen Interceptor Mk III, is in fabulous condition, just a hair’s-breadth from concours condition. With a 7.2 litre Golden Commando V8 engine and a TorqueFlite automatic gearbox, it is as brutal as it is handsome with lashings of leather, wood and chrome. In the care of the same owner for the past four and a half years, the Interceptor has been treated to vast expenditure at marque experts Cropredy Bridge, where sensible upgrades to the brake system and air conditioning have been installed to allow the vendor to use the car regularly. Reading just 46,259 miles and estimated at £37,000 - £44,000, the online auction for the Interceptor starts on 23rd September and ends on 30th September at 8:00pm GMT.
“As an online auction house we believe strongly in transparency and honesty at the point of sale and purchase. I encourage anyone interested in these fabulous cars to make the most of our detailed online descriptions, large image galleries and videos on our website. Interested buyers can also communicate directly with the seller and even visit and inspect the cars before they bid online. If they are successful, they’ll own a stunning classic supercar by the end of the month,” concludes Tristan, “And if the sixties is more your thing, we have a couple of E-Types being auctioned very soon too.”

ONLINE CLASSIC CAR AUCTION DISRUPTOR THE MARKET ACHIEVES 89% SALES RATE IN AUGUST

ONLINE CLASSIC CAR AUCTION DISRUPTOR THE MARKET ACHIEVES 89% SALES RATE IN AUGUST
Online classic car auction platform, The Market, has achieved a sales rate of 89 per cent with total sales of over £418,000 during the month of August via its state-of-the-art online bidding platform and app.
Successfully selling 24 out of 27 classic cars offered, the online-only auction platform saw multiple cars sell over their pre-sale estimates, with a 1937 Rover P2 20hp Sports Saloon and period-correct 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk1 among the highlight lots.
Tristan Judge, director at The Market, commented: “Despite the holiday period, August has been another fantastic month which has seen our sales rate continue at the around 90 per cent level, reaffirming the power and popularity of a convenient, online-only format. As usual, we’ve seen a fine variety of classics, young and old, change hands via our platform, which offers the most comprehensive and honest lot descriptions around, giving buyers confidence and transparency in what they’re bidding on.”
Headlining August’s sales was a multi-award winning 1937 Rover P2 20hp Sports Saloon in outstanding restored condition. Rescued from a garage in 1996, the matching numbers example finished in Admiralty Blue won eight awards in the space of two years and was treated to three restorations during its life. Presented in its exact original specification, it reached a sale price of £22,000 at auction.
A lovely, period-correct 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk 1 from 27-year ownership attracted exceptionally high levels of bidding. Treated to a chassis-up restoration in 1993 and regularly driven, including on the school run, it was sold for an above-estimate £36,575 accompanied by a certificate confirming its original build specification from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.
Of the modern classics offered, a 2006 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti with a 5.7-litre V12 engine and semi-automatic ‘F1’ gearbox sold above its auction estimate for £57,000. Reading just 49,000 miles, the car was presented in nigh-on showroom-condition.
Other notable results from the August sales include a museum-quality 1991 BMW 850i Auto reading 57,000 miles sold for £19,500, a 1980 Porsche 911 SC project estimated at £12,000 to £16,000 that sold for £20,360 and 2000 Lotus Elise S1 Type 49 ‘Gold Leaf’ special edition, one of just 100 cars made, which sold for £16,500.
“The sales in August marked a key milestone for the company having now successfully sold more than 400 classic cars and returning 95 per cent of the sales prices to the vendors,” concludes Tristan.
Classic car owners looking to sell their classic benefit from just 5 per cent sellers’ commission and no entry fee, while buyers don’t pay any fees.
