Derby
Day at Charterhouse Auction
The Charterhouse auction of vintage and classic cars on
Sunday 15th February includes a rare 1934 Derby Bentley estimated to
sell for £50,000.
“Ask any car enthusiast what is their dream vehicle and
there is a pretty good chance they will say a vintage Bentley.” Commented
Matthew Whitney. “Finished in Bentley red, this stunning looking vintage
Bentley has only come onto the auction market due to bereavement.”
The first owner of this1934 3.5 litre Derby Bentley was a
Harley Street Doctor, who sent the rolling chassis off to Park Ward for a coach
built four door sports salon body. He kept the Bentley until 1957, although he
stored the car during The Second World War. The second owner was also a Doctor,
but it was the third owner in the early 1960’s who took the four door body off
to replace it with an aluminium built body replicating the famous Bentley raced
by Eddie Hall.
Now offered for auction by only the 6th owner in
over 80 years, it has not been on the road for the nearly 10 years. Carefully
driven into its garage, it was put up on blocks and fully greased to preserve
it. When Matthew Whitney was asked by the family to value the car, it was
covered in a fine layer of dust, but with some fresh petrol and a battery the
car was soon started.
