BALLISTIC BMWS SPEED TO AUCTION AT CCA’S SEPTEMBER SALE
RM Sotheby's 2018 London Auction Digital Catalogue Now Available
RM Sotheby's is delighted to present the catalogue for its 12th annual London sale to take place on 5 September at Battersea Evolution, in Battersea Park. This annual highlight on the European auction calendar features more than 100 lots, including 95 of the world's finest motor cars and eight fantastic collectables.
This eclectic sale is headlined by the fabulous 1961 Aston Martin DB4GT driven by famed actor Peter Sellers on screen in the 1963 film, The Wrong Arm of the Law (view video here), whilst the 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 S, once owned by pop and rock legend Rod Stewart, is also attracting enormous attention. And if one ex-Rod Stewart car isn't enough, it will be joined by a 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, also purchased new by the iconic singer. With cars spanning values from £10,000 to £3,000,000 and eras from 1920 through 2018, London is once again a fantastic sale for collectors and enthusiasts of all fine collector automobiles.
A selection of stand-out lots is presented below, with all lots now available in the complete London digital catalogue. Please also note that the Rod Stewart Miura and the Ferrari 275 GTB Alloy, listed below, are now on view in Sotheby's New Bond Street London galleries until Friday, 31 August.

Chassis no. 08199 is one of a mere 60 alloy 275 GTBs produced and was previously owned by noted hot-rod enthusiast Don Orosco and actor Alex Cord. As a later long-nose example, the car was completed by the factory in January 1966 and boasts the rare and desirable aluminium bodywork and fitted triple Weber carburettors. Fully restored in its original colour combination, this matching-numbers example is, of course, Ferrari Classiche certified.

| |||
Delivered new to Rod Stewart, and still with just its second owner, the Gallardo was ordered new in stunning Celeste Phoebe over Blu Scylla and Avorio colour scheme and has currently covered just over 3,000 miles from new. Stewart's ownership of this particular Gallardo Spyder is confirmed by an accompanying copy of the original invoice and a letter from Lamborghini Edinburgh, which notes that the car was optioned with the E-Gear paddle shift transmission, the branding package, and a two-tone interior.
| |||
| |||
One of a mere 15 of the special 924 GTS Clubsport models originally produced. The car retains its original engine and is believed to have covered only 35,000 km from new. In excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition, this extremely rare and very quick 924 Carrera GTS Clubsport is a fine, track-capable Porsche that will certainly be the centre of attention at any club event and is capable of embarrassing many supposedly faster automobiles.
| |||
| |||
One of the most iconic supercars of all time, the Enzo on offer is a single ownership example with less than 6,100 km from new. Finished in the quintessential colour combination of Rosso Corsa over Nero, this Enzo has been properly cared for and regularly exercised and enjoyed all its life, presenting beautifully throughout.
| |||
| |||
One of just 190 examples built and offered by its first and only owner in highly original condition. The silver 911 GT2 offered has been carefully maintained throughout its life and retains its factory appearance, including its distinctive fender flares, two-tier fixed spoiler, and its wide alloy wheels. Delivered to 430 bhp specifications in 1996, the engine was upgraded to produce 450 bhp in 1998 by Porsche Zentrum MAHAG in Munich. Inside, its black and grey leather, two-tone fixed sports seats show limited wear, commensurate with the 136,000 km shown on its odometer.
| |||
| |||
Featuring exquisitely beautiful Pinin Farina coachwork on a rare LHD chassis, this car featured in period Ferrari literature. With decades of wonderful known history, the car benefits from a recent $500,000 Concours restoration by marque specialists Epifani Restorations and is Ferrari Classiche certified with original engine, gearbox and bodywork. Accompanied by an owner's manual, factory brochure and toolkit with jack.

Known to be the last kart driven by Senna, 10 per cent of the proceeds from this unique lot will benefit the Instituto Ayrton Senna. According to the consignor, a former mechanic and racing driver and a friend of Ayrton, the famed racing driver got behind the wheel of this kart on 19 March 1994 at his farm in the town of Tatui, São Paulo. Exceptionally well documented, the sale is accompanied by video footage of Senna driving the kart in March of 1994 as well as several photographs from the day.

RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to announce another headlining car for its Porsche 70th Anniversary auction, set for 27 October at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta (PEC). To the incredible Group B rally machine found in the previously announced 959 Paris-Dakar, RM Sotheby’s now adds what is perhaps the most original Porsche 956 Group C example.
Few race cars of the Porsche pantheon are as universally acclaimed as the 956. The car is a brilliantly engineered aesthetic wonder, born of another round of FISA changes that ultimately resulted in the emergence of several marque innovations. The 956 was the first Porsche race car to feature monocoque construction, as well as the first to feature so-called ground effects; the aerodynamic channeling body features that maximize cornering force. Hugely successful from the start, the model took a 1-2-3 finish at the 1982 24 Hours of Le Mans in just its second race and would go on to dominate the next few seasons.
This 1983 Porsche 956 Group C, chassis no. 956-110, is a true time-warp example. One of just nine privateer cars built by the factory to compete in the 1983 World Endurance Championship season, no. 110 was originally bound for the legendary Fitzpatrick racing team and debuted as their lead car at the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans with John Fitzpatrick, Dieter Quester, and David Hobbs at the wheel. Though the car retired due to fuel-pump failure, success was not far off. Just three races into its career, this 956 landed its first overall win at the Can-Am Road America in July 1983 at the hands of John Fitzpatrick, who secured a commanding 12-second lead over the second place Frisbee GR2 Chevrolet. Podium finishes were abundant from there, with chassis no. 110 achieving 3rd overall at Can-Am Mosport, 1st overall at the 1000 KM at Brands Hatch, 2nd overall at the 1000 KM Imola, 3rd overall at 1000 KM Mugello and Silverstone, and contending the 24 Hours of Le Mans one last time in 1984.
Hugely successful on the track and the only 956 to compete and win on American soil in period, the Porsche joined a private collection immediately following the 1984 24 Hours of Le Mans and has had just three private owners since this time. Offered from its current owner of 16 years, the 956 is presented in its 1983 Le Mans livery and is likely the most original example of the model in existence. With an excellent driver lineup that includes John Fitzpatrick, Derek Warwick, Thierry Boutsen, and Alain de Cadenet, as well as the well-known liveries of J David, Skoal Bandit, and Rollei, the Porsche is an ideal candidate for preservation class Concours entry or for vintage competition at the Le Mans Classic and 24 Hours of Daytona historic races. RM Sotheby’s estimates that the 956 will achieve $5,250,000 - $6,750,000* when it crosses the podium in Atlanta.
“The 956 is an important addition to our Porsche 70th Anniversary auction lineup,” says Alexander Weaver, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby’s. “The 956 model was a highly successful sports racing car and is considerably rarer and more user friendly than its Group 6 sister car, the iconic 917. Given that the car was raced by one of just two privateer teams to ever beat the Works Rothmans team with a 956 in a 1,000 KM championship race, and the only 956 to win in the U.S., it is especially fitting that the car be offered at the Porsche Experience Center Atlanta during the 70th anniversary year. This is a rare opportunity for Porsche racing enthusiasts that won’t soon repeat itself.”
The 956 Group C will be on advance display at RM Sotheby’s Monterey preview and auction, 22-25 August at the Monterey Conference Center in California.
Additional early highlights for the auction include:
- A very complete and matching-numbers barn-find 1958 Porsche 356 A ‘Super’ Speedster, recently unearthed after being put into storage in the mid-1980s (RM Sotheby’s Estimate: $125,000 - $150,000, offered without reserve);
- A 2011 Porsche 911 GT2 RS, one of just 33 lightweight specification examples and the only one finished in Guards Red (Estimate available upon request);
- A 2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0, the final example produced and built specifically for Jerry Seinfeld featuring numerous bespoke options (RM Sotheby’s Estimate: $850,000 - $1,000,000).
The RM Sotheby’s Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction is an exclusive, single-marque auction to be held at the home of Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) in Atlanta. Set for the weekend of 27 October, the sale will feature approximately 70 of the world’s most important and most sought-after, privately-owned collectible Porsche models, spanning the marque’s illustrious 70-year history as a sports car manufacturer. The PEC Atlanta will be open for RM Sotheby’s registered bidders to view auction cars, 26 and 27 October, all made easily accessible thanks to the facility’s location adjacent to the runways of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
