Saratoga Auto Auction - 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL!!! CONSIGNMENT OF THE WEEK
Consignment of the Week
1971 MERCEDES-BENZ
A very nice 1971 Mercedes Benz 280SL. The Car is a future classic and is a pleasure to drive.
The car was originally purchased from Helms Bros in Albany, NY. The car was painted about 10 years ago by the current owner. The current owner is hoping to find a home to enjoy the car as much as he did. This car was used for occasional cruises around The Great Sacandaga and other lakes in the Adirondacks and stored in a climate controlled garage when not being used.
-The car runs really well and sounds excellent.
-No strange noises or rear end whining which is common on 280SLs.
-The interior shows very well, as well as the paint.
-This is a beautiful 280SL that can be driven and enjoyed.
This is a fun vehicle guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone who sees it on the road. Called a "bubble car," the most entertaining aspect is trying to get in or out with the entire door swinging out and the steering wheel moving to the side.
BMW bought the Isetta from the original Italian manufacturer to have a low priced model while trying to recover financially from the war. This proved a brilliant move and some 200,000 Isettas were built over an 8-year period.
As with most enthusiast cars the engine is the heart of it. This right hand drive car sports a 1.6L I-4 engine with Webber Carbs and from the 1st crack of the engine you know this car wants to go! George Hartwell Ltd did all the engine tuning for Harrington at the time of the original build. As with the exceptional styling of the exterior, the engine also is something to behold with chrome accents throughout and those Webber carbs windup all motoring aficionados. The Harrington also has true wire wheels w/knockoffs to complete the ensemble.
