Worldwide Auctioneers is gearing up for its auction debut during Monterey car week, with an outstanding selection of racers and European pre-war classics, sports and supercars among the recent consignments to The Pacific Grove Auction on Thursday, August 17. Slated to cross the block is a singular and exceptionally well-documented 1937 Delahaye 135M Coupe by Dubos, with exciting one-off custom coachwork and spectacular bureau-style “rollback” roof. “We love the history of the car and it is such a gorgeous example from every angle. Some of the greatest automotive designs in history came about during the ‘30s and this Delahaye is a testament to the great coach builders of the period,” said Rod Egan, Principal and Auctioneer.
Another impressive motorcar lined up to go under the hammer is a stunning one of a kind early production 1938 BMW 328 MM Roadster with Coachwork by Touring. Also consigned to The Pacific Grove Auction is a wonderfully preserved and iconic example of early post-war French Grand Prix history, an unrestored and highly documented 1948 Simca-Gordini Grand Prix Monoposto, raced in top level European and Argentine events, with Jean-Pierre Wimille and Prince Bira among its legendary drivers. Another notable consignment with impeccable racing pedigree is a multiple award-winning 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 Sunray-DX Racing Car, built by Don Yenko with factory L-88 engine, raced at the 1968 24 Hours of Daytona with the GT-class lap record at the 1968 Sebring 12 hours. “Here is a thrilling piece of living American motorsports history that we’re delighted to offer for sale, expertly restored by Kevin McKay to 1968 Sebring Livery and complete with NCRS Heritage and Bloomington Gold® Special Collection Awards,” said John Kruse, Principal and Auctioneer.
Outstanding European sports cars in the sale include “The Lieutenant’s Speedster”, a never-before-offered 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster, with only one owner from new, a US officer stationed in Germany who purchased the car direct from Porsche in Stuttgart. An incredible array of correspondence between the lieutenant and the factory documents the relationship and sale. Also on offer is an exquisite numbers-matching 1934 Mercedes-Benz 380K Cabriolet with Coachwork by Sindelfingen, one of only 154 built during 1933 and 1934, beautifully restored and part of two prominent American collections over the past three decades, with build numbers and delivery details confirmed by a Mercedes-Benz Classic Zertifikat. Additionally included are a Ferrari Classiche certified 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Coupe with only 28,000 miles from new, documented by Ferrari historian Marcel Massini and an extraordinary 2013 Lamborghini 570-4 Super Trofeo Racer, the first example ever to be made available at auction and easily one of the hardest supercars to acquire today. Worldwide Auctioneers will present The Pacific Grove Auction at the start of Monterey Car Week at 5pm on Thursday, August 17th, 2017, making it the first scheduled catalogue format auction of that storied week.
