EXTREMELY RARE 1920S CROFT-CAMERON SUPER EIGHT THE STAR AT
£1.6 MILLION BONHAMS AUTUMN STAFFORD SALE
 
1924 Croft-Cameron 996cc Super Eight sold for £203,100

  • Bonhams Stafford Sale saw the 1924 Croft-Cameron 996cc Super Eight sell for £203,100.
  • The same day saw an outstanding result for a Vincent Black Shadow as the gavel came down at £113,500 for the 1948 Vincent 998cc Black Shadow Series-B.
The 1924 Croft-Cameron 996cc Super Eight sold for £203,100 at the bi-annual Bonhams Stafford Sale on Sunday 16 October. Among the super-sports big twins of the 1920s and ‘30s, this striking and powerful machine is the product of the short lived Coventry based Croft-Cameron company.

Meanwhile, an extremely rare 1948 Vincent 998cc Black Shadow Series-B smashed through its estimate of £50,000-60,000 to reach £113,500.
Among other Vincents on offer was the third oldest complete and original post-war Vincent – a 1946 998cc Rapide Series-B that sold for an impressive £68,700.
Other notable sales included a 1937 Brough Superior 1,096cc 11-50HP Motorcycle Combination (first owned by the Sheffield police) that went for £85,500 and an ex-works, NCR, Sports Motor Cycles, Roger Nicholls, Isle of Man TT Formula 1, 1977 Ducati 905cc Production Racing Motorcycle that made £59,740

Elsewhere, a limited edition 1997 Ducati 996cc 916 SPS sold for an exceptional £22,770.
The entire sale realised £1,572,712 with a sale rate of 94% of the lots offered, at 94% of estimated value.
Malcolm Barber, Co-Chairman of Bonhams and auctioneer at the sale said, “UK bidding was competitive from both the trade and private collectors – the pound taking on strong European and indeed international currencies.”
James Stensel, Head of Bonhams Motorcycle Department, said: “The Bonhams Stafford Sale continues to act as the international barometer for collectors’ motorcycle sales. The strong results at Stafford, including an industry leading percentage sale rate, were a welcome indication of the strength of the market. We look forward to welcoming the motorcycle community back to Stafford in April and in the meantime are inviting entries for our December Olympia and February Paris
