Walworth, WI --
Mecum Monterey 2016 will offer a superb, specially-built 1980 Porsche Bisimoto 911BR (Lot S40) with all proceeds to benefit Boys Republic. The auction will take place on August 18-20 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa - Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey, California. The project came together with tremendous support from Southern California stalwarts Bisimoto Engineering and McKenna Porsche.

Extensively modified by Bisi Ezerioha of Bisimoto, the 1980 Porsche 911 has been back-dated to look like the previous generation 911 produced from 1969-1973. This is a car that it’s easy to imagine Steve McQueen—the “King of Cool”—commissioning as his personal Porsche 911 if he were still with us. Proceeds from the sale of this car will benefit Boys Republic, a non-profit treatment community for troubled youth. Boys Republic had a special place in the heart of McQueen. When he got into an altercation with his abusive stepfather, the young McQueen was sent off to Boys Republic. In his later years, he reflected back on his time at the Boys Republic and gave them their due credit for helping him turn his life around.

This is a no expense spared bespoke Porsche inspired by the legendary pop culture icon that reflects his personality and penchant for straight line performance, cornering prowess and understated appearance. Painted in McQueen’s favorite Porsche color of Slate Gray with Fuchs-inspired alloy wheels, the classic lowered stance—with the subtle 1 ½ degree of tilt toward the front—is something that stirs the soul. The engine is a 3.6 liter unit with a late model GT3 intake manifold, fully sequential fuel injection and a custom fabricated pulse chamber exhaust system that produces 316 horsepower—a lot of power for the featherweight 2,400 pound car.

The rear suspension has been updated with a custom made coilover arrangement – a transformative improvement over the original torsion bar configuration. McQueen was also a lover of all things mechanical—including aircraft and motorcycles—so the seats are of aircraft inspired design in hand formed bare aluminum. The interior also features his favorite steering wheel—the Momo Prototipo.

This is a serious car for a great cause. Boys Republic seeks to give adolescent youth with behavioral, educational, and emotional difficulties an opportunity to achieve their maximum potential. Since its founding in 1907, Boys Republic has guided more than 30,000 at-risk teenage boys and girls toward a more fulfilling and productive life.
