Pictured below are some of the antique Buick's that we will be selling at our annual Fall Thursday Auction September 22, all indoors at Concord Arena & Events Center just north of the Charlotte Speedway on Highway 49 in Concord, NC. The Buicks are from prestigious collections as outlined in the descriptions.
541-1941 Buick 75 Series Limited Limousine- From the Charles Cawley collection. Mr. Cawley was the CEO of MBNA Credit Card Bank that ultimately was sold to NationsBank. Mr Cawley has a premium collection and he occasionally sells some cars, and this example was sold to a museum in eastern North Carolina until they sold it to a South Carolina collector in 2010. It only has 73K miles and is in great condition. Along with all of the standard amenities featured on Buick's top-of-the-line series for '41, it has optional fender skirts and dual carburation. This is quite an opportunity for any collector.
542-1938 Buick Special- Powered by a 248 ci inline 8, and a 3-speed manual transmission with a floor-mounted (last year) shifter. This example has had a frame-off restoration and has been on display in an eastern North Carolina museum for many years until April 2016. Gorgeous Black finish with newer correct interior. Wide whitewall tires mounted on red wheels with trim rings. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer example....
543-1932 Buick-1932 Buick 57S Special 5-Passenger Sedan- One of 9,766 "S"-Series upgrade Buicks built in 1932, and featured the first-year "Silent Second Sycro-Mesh" transmission. All S-Series models were richly appointed with stylish, chrome-trimmed instruments--speedometer, fuel, oil, water and ammeter--set in walnut woodgrained panels with mohair fabric throughout, in either gray, taupe or "grey whipcord of new design." An optional clock was set either in the rearview mirror or in the matching walnut glovebox door. Again, the 57S received added luxury items such as a rear seat assist cord, folding robe rail, ash receivers and a chrome folding rear footrest. Power is a "straight" 8 cylinder 230ci, 79HP engine.
This particular example is from the S. Truett Cathy Collection. The late Mr. Cathy was the founder and owner of the famous Chick-Fil-A Restaurants. According to his museum curator, Mr. Cathy loved this Buick and it was featured in the antique auto collection displayed in the foyer of the corporate headquarters in Atlanta until some of Mr. Cathy's cars were sold to benefit charity in May 2016. Mr. Cathy purchased this car from Mr. George Glass, who is also an Atlanta collector.
This striking Buick is correctly finished in Hawaiian Tan with dark Brown fenders and trim, and a dark maroon interior. It has the "artillery-style" wheels and dual side mounts. We think it should remain in a museum, but that will be the new owners' prerogative.
544-1928 Buick Master 6-The Buick Master Six was Buick's high-end offering for '28, above the Standard Six.
This example is all original unrestored and is also from the collection of the late S. Truett Cathy, founder and owner of Chick-Fil-A Restaurants. Mr. Cathy purchased the car from George Glass who is also an Atlanta collector. Mr. Glass relays the story as: The original owners, from Pennsylvania, only used the car sparingly as it only has 27K miles from new. Every time they drove it, it was washed, stored in a garage, and covered. Every September, it was stored covered on blocks until the next spring.
The car appears to be totally original including paint, wooden "military" wheels, and interior. Car starts and runs good.
This is an amazing opportunity for you to own a cars from the Cathy collection, and a pieces of Buick history.
We hope you can join us in Concord on September 22, or, if not, maybe sign up as a phone bidder? Some additional auction vehicles are pictured on our website atwww.tommackauctions.com.
