AUBURN, Indiana (July 6, 2016) –  Fresh on the heels of its successful Santa Monica sale last month, Auctions America is busy preparing for its flagship Auburn Fall Collector Car Weekend, August 31 – September 4 at Indiana’s historic Auburn Auction Park. A Labor Day tradition spanning more than 45 years, the multi-day event coincides with the world-famous Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, making for an ultimate celebration of the collector car hobby.

In a perfect match to the ACD Festival, this year’s Auburn Fall sale will once again be headlined by a superb ACD trifecta, with the company today announcing a highly original and well-documented 1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Phaeton as the latest feature attraction for the auction. The Cord joins the previously announced 1933 Duesenberg Model J Berline and the1929 Auburn 8–90 Cabriolet.

A striking Gordon Buehrig design, and one of only 196 supercharged phaetons built, the Cord 812 Supercharged Phaeton comes to market an incredibly original example having been lovingly preserved over the past 79 years, and sporting its original engine and mostly original paint. It is further differentiated from its peers by a host of desirable and rarely seen factory options, including custom designed folding trunk rack and auxiliary fog lights. Previously displayed at the ACD Museum in Auburn, the car comes to market an outstanding preservation class candidate, as already proven by a swag of accolades at recent CCCA Grand Classic meets, as well as at the Del Mar Concours d’Elegance, the Dana Point Concours d’Elegance and the San Marino Motor Car Classic. Most recently, it received its CCCA premier badge (Est. $250,000 - $300,000).

“Our Auburn Fall sale is a proven venue for offering some world’s finest Auburns, Cords and Duesenbergs - there’s something incredibly special and exciting about offering such cars at home in the Classic Car Capital of America during a the ACD Festival,” says Megan Boyd, Car Specialist, Auctions America. “We’re excited to continue the tradition this Fall with yet another great ACD trifecta. The Cord is a fantastic addition to the event; cars exhibiting such incredible originality are hard to find and are highly sought after by collectors. I expect it will perform very well come auction day.”

In addition to its strong track record for home-grown beauties, Auburn Fall is noted for its incredible diversity, appealing to enthusiasts of all stripes. In stark contrast to the classic, flowing lines of the aforementioned ACD cars comes a wild 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Restomod Coupe. Built by Jeff Haynes of Bloomington, Indiana, this striking example is based off an original 1963 Vette split-window coupe body, and features a C6 front end and C5 rear on a complete custom chassis. Powered by a LS3 V-8 delivering 500hp paired to a six-speed automatic transmission, it is finished in Gun Metal Gray and rides on slim redline tires mounted on Z06 Spyder wheels. Other striking exterior features include front and rear chrome bumpers and sidepipe exhausts, while inside, the car is completed in a distressed red leather interior with custom bolstered bucket seats. It is fitted with various special options including air-conditioning, power windows, AM/FM radio and backup camera.

“Restomods are particularly hot in today’s marketplace,” Boyd adds. “A definite show-stopper, this example truly encompasses the best of both worlds, with the classic looks of Corvette’s Sting Ray design coupled with the modern performance, reliability and comfort of a late-model Corvette.”

In keeping with past tradition, collectors visiting Auburn Fall can also expect a fantastic selection of other traditional favorites and in-demand classics, such as Ford Performance vehicles and iconic ‘50s GM convertibles. Notable early highlights from this segment include a 1969 Shelby GT 500 Fastback, freshly restored in Grabber Orange and featuring the rare combination of a Super Cobra Jet Drag Pack mated to a four-speed transmission (Est. $120,000 - $160,000). The docket also includes a high-quality 1954 Buick Skylark Convertible, the recipient of a frame-off restoration by well-known marque specialist, Gary Walker (Est. $130,000 - $150,000). For those with a penchant for more recent design, a 1999 Shelby Series 1 Roadster, a certain future classic and autographed by the legendary Carroll Shelby, is also poised for the auction block (Est. $110,000 - $130,000).

While the auction remains the focal point of the Auburn Fall weekend, Auctions America’s Labor Day Weekend tradition will also feature an exciting range of automotive-themed activities providing fun for the whole family. Beyond the traditional car corral and swap meet – always crowd favorites – thrill-seekers will enjoy Monster Truck shows and rides, as well asFreestyle Sportbike shows by athletes Kyle Sliger and Jesse Toller. In addition, Auctions America will welcome Bill Goldberg, professional athlete, former pro-wrestler, TV host and automobile aficionado to the Auburn Auction Park on September 3 for meet and greet opportunities and autograph signings. A complete schedule of ancillary events planned for this year’s Auburn Fall weekend will be published online at www.auctionsamerica.com in the coming weeks.
