Mercedes 300 SLR recreation headlines Classic Race Aarhus Auction
We’re delighted to announce that a very special recreation of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, made famous by Sir Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson’s victory in the Mille Miglia in 1955, will headline our Classic Race Aarhus Auction in Denmark next month.
Hand-built by Jim Marland, the original founder of Proteus Sports & Racing Cars, the construction took place over a period of two years and was finished in 2010 to the exact dimensions of the original, using the highest quality components available.
The aluminium body hand was crafted by Clive Smart of Shapecraft, and the paintwork carried out by well-known Midlands specialist, XK Engineering Ltd.
Under the bonnet
Powered by a Mercedes-Benz 280E engine, mated to a four speed manual gearbox, rebuilt to the highest standard by Crewe Engines, and with the interior entirely handmade with hand painted dials and instruments, the car is visually as close to the original as possible.
Just one of five
This UK registered, left-hand drive car is the fifth and final recreation produced. With the other four examples all in private collections in the USA and Germany, this is an extremely rare and special opportunity to acquire an outstanding recreation of the legendary 300 SLR, quite simply one of the most famous race cars of all time.
