The Classic Motor Show Sale results

 
Records tumble at the Classic Motor Show Sale
 
Hundreds of visitors to the NEC helped us achieve an 80% sales rate and total sales of £4.4 million in our two-day auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show.

The atmosphere at the sale was electric and we’re delighted we’ve been able to secure such great prices on behalf of our vendors, as well as breaking a few world records along the way!

The key sign of a successful auction is when you have both happy sellers and happy buyers and this time we are proud to have achieved both!
 
1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo Series 1 - Pre-sale estimate No Reserve: SOLD £60,188


 
A frenzied bidding war, including an amazing 18 phone bidders, resulted in an astonishing world record auction price for this stunning example.
 
With just over 5,000 miles on the clock and one owner from new, this car is believed to be the lowest mileage Series 1 RS turbo in existence and proved to be an unrepeatable opportunity for any Ford RS fan, collector or enthusiast.
 
1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 - Pre-sale estimate £70,000-£80,000: SOLD £90,000
 

A true time warp, 13,000 miles from new example, this amazing Sierra Cosworth had been fastidiously maintained throughout its life and once again proved the appeal of fast Fords.
 
1993 Ferrari 512 TR - Pre-sale estimate £110,000-£130,000: SOLD £185,625
 

Achieving a believed UK auction record, a right-hand drive 1993 Ferrari 512 TR sold for an amazing £75,000 over its lower estimate. Cosseted throughout its life, the bodywork and wheels were in fabulous condition.
 
1999 Ferrari F355 - Pre-sale estimate No Reserve: SOLD £103,500
 
 
Another Ferrari, a very special, last of the line and low mileage 1999 F355 F1 was hard fought over by bidders at the show. Offered at no reserve the car eventually sold for more than £103,000.
 
1991 Jaguar XJ220 - Pre-sale estimate £300,000-£350,000: SOLD £315,000
 
 
This stunning XJ220 was formerly part of the Brunei Royal family car collection before returning to the UK in September 2002. The car had covered just 5,782 miles and in August 2015 had £20,000 worth of expert work completed by probably the UK’s leading authority on XJ220s, renowned specialists Don Law Racing of Staffordshire.
 
1956 Porsche 356A T1 Cabriolet - Pre-sale estimate £170,000-£200,000: SOLD £196,875
 
 
This car presented a very rare opportunity to acquire an original UK delivered, right-hand drive Porsche 356A T1 Cabriolet. A genuine matching-numbers car, presented with a complete history dating back to 1956, this wonderful car was adored by Porsche enthusiasts at the show, selling for more than £26,000 over its lower estimate.
 
Ex-Peter Sellers 1966 Lotus Elan S2 - Pre-sale estimate £45,000-£50,000: SOLD £50,625
 

This car was delivered to Peter Sellers’ Haymarket home on 22nd June 1966 and was driven by Peter himself, with wife Britt Ekland in the passenger seat, until 29th February 1969. The car has since had two other owners before being purchased by the vendor.

With 65,611 miles on the clock this car was in fantastic original condition having been off the road in dry storage since August 2005.
 
1999 Bentley Continental Sedanca Coupe Auto - Pre-sale estimate £45,000-£55,000: SOLD £108,000
 
 
This very rare and distinctive Bentley cut a striking figure on the saleroom floor and was successfully hammered away for more than £50,000 over its lower estimate.
 
1979 Aston Martin V8 Volante - Pre-sale estimate £100,000-£115,000: SOLD £151,875
 
 
This beautiful Aston Martin had the distinction of being an early right-hand drive Volante in rare Tourmaline Blue with Fawn leather piped blue. When the owner purchased the car from Aston specialists Runnymeade in 2010 he started a comprehensive period of restoration and enhancement to his own exacting standards. The standard of work was clear to see and the car sold for more than £50,000 over its lower estimate.

It’s been another incredibly busy and successful year for our team and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those that have attended one of our sales during the year and bought and sold cars with us.
 
Our next sales take place at Race Retro at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire, on the 27th and 28th of February, and the Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show on the 6th of March back at the NEC, Birmingham.
