Top Marques at Charterhouse Summer Classic Car Auction

Top Marques at Charterhouse Summer Classic Car Auction

The Charterhouse auction of classic and vintage cars has a great selection of vehicles including seven Rolls Royce and Bentley motorcars.

“The auction, which is held in a marquee in the beautiful grounds of Sherborne Castle, is one of the highlights of the auction calendar for me.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “We already have a stunning selection of cars dating from the 1920’s onwards with restoration projects through to concours show cars. Porsche, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jensen, Mercedes-Benz, MG, VW, Morris, Edsel, Triumph, Volvo, Ford and many other manufacturers are well represented and it looks to be another auction set for strong bidding in this strong market.”

Rolls Royce and Bentley have always been sought after, and Charterhouse have amassed a good number of these great cars. Estimated at £130,000-140,000 is a 1922 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost. This imposing Rolls Royce was featured in the 1974 film The Great Gatsby starring Robert Redford. This is followed by a 1939 Rolls Royce Wraith form a client in Romford, Essex, for £40,000-50,000 and a 1935 Rolls Royce 20/25 tourer at £35,000-40,000.

In the Bentley section, there is a 1988 Bentley 8 previously owned by Mungo Jerry, famous for his 1970 chart hit In the Summertime, which is estimated at £5,500-6,500. However, it is a 1998 Bentley Turbo RT Mulliner which has already attracted good interest. Being a limited edition of just 100 made, this special Bentley was ordered by its owner when living in Monaco. He specified some very special extras including a speedometer inset into the back of the centre console to enable the back seat passenger to see how fast the car was going or maybe to frighten the Mother-in-Law as the speedo reads up to 260 km/h! Now the owner is back in the UK, and as the car has only covered less than 18,000 miles, the owner has decided now is the time to sell it.

Charterhouse is now accepting further entries for this specialist auction of classic cars and motorcycles on Sunday 19th July being held in conjunction with Classics at Sherborne Castle.
