Celebrating a successful May Sale
Over 90 classic cars and nine historic motorcycles were offered in
this year’s May Sale, with many best of breed models attracting
significant interest, contributing to a sales rate of 80 per cent.
Returning to our spiritual home at Silverstone race circuit,
international collectors placed bids in the packed auction hall as well
as online, over the phone and by commission, resulting in total sales of
£3.4 million.

2010 Porsche 911 GT2 RS: Pre-sale estimate: £250,000 - £300,000: SOLD £281,250
One of only 16 UK supplied right hand drive cars, this rare
supercar is the fastest production 911 to ever lap the Nurburgring and
was presented at our May Sale in ‘turnkey’ condition. The modern classic
sold for a remarkable £281,250, more than £30,000 above its lower
estimate.

1961 Bentley S2 Continental 'Flying Spur': Pre-sale estimate: £75,000 - £90,000: SOLD £101,250
Another classic that proved popular was this 1961 Bentley S2
Continental 'Flying Spur'. Selling for £101,250, the car was one of just
52 left hand drive models ever made and amazingly, had been under the
same family’s ownership since new.

2009 Ferrari F430 Scuderia: Pre-sale estimate: £230,000 - £250,000: SOLD £247,500
This 2009 Ferrari F430 Scuderia was also subject to much interest
from collectors. The modern classic had covered just 85 kilometres from
new, and was presented in a unique colour combination of Grigio Medio
791 with an Alcantara red leather interior. Bidding was strong and the
car sold for £247,500, almost £30,000 higher than its lowest estimate.

1975 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI Coupe: Pre-sale estimate: £95,000 - 110,000: SOLD: £146,250

1977 Jaguar XJC: Pre-sale estimate: No Reserve: SOLD £34,875
Proving that low mileage and single ownership will always generate
significant interest, a 1977 Jaguar XJC with just 17,000 miles sold for
£34,875. Buyers in the packed out auction hall were joined by no less
than 14 phone bidders, as well as plenty of online bids and commission
interest.

1952 Land Rover Series I 80": Pre-sale estimate: £26,000 - £28,000: SOLD £39,375
Among the British classics on the lot list, this 1952 Land Rover
Series I 80” was particularly sought after. Restored by worldwide Land
Rover authority, Ken Wheelwright, the landmark classic was clearly
popular with buyers and the winning bid was more than £11,000 over its
lowest estimate, at £39,375.

1989 Porsche 911 Speedster 3.2 Turbo Body: Pre-sale estimate: £120,000 - £140,000: SOLD £144,000
This low mileage 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster 3.2 Turbo Body’s
paintwork and body was presented in superb condition, with a simply
faultless interior. One of just 139 Turbo-Bodied right-hand drive cars
manufactured for the worldwide market, the car sold for £24,000 more
than its lowest estimate.

2001 BMW Z3 M Coupe: Pre-sale estimate: £22,000 - £25,000
Collectors of modern BMW cars also fought to purchase a jaw
droppingly distinctive 2001 BMW Z3 M Coupe. Supplied in excellent
condition and ready to be driven away, the contemporary classic was set
to be a shrewd investment and fetched £36,563 at auction, an amazing
£11,563 more than its highest estimate.

1986 Mercedes 190E Coswort: Pre-sale estimate: £25,000 - £35,000: SOLD £38,250
An original example of the Mercedes 190E Cosworth having covered
only 17,514 kilometres, bidding whipped into a frenzy as buyers battled
to purchase this iconic 80s classic. Sure to prove a worthwhile
investment, the car was hammered away at £38,250.

This year the Silverstone Classic celebrates its 25th anniversary, and once again we will be holding an auction at the prestigious event.
Taking place at Silverstone race circuit on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July, we are now inviting quality consignments into the sale.
