140 Vehicles on offer all with NO RESERVE
On View: Tuesday 9th June 9am - 7pm Wednesday 10th June 9am onwards
Brightwells
are delighted to announce that they have been appointed to dispose of
the entire contents of the Stondon Motor Museum in Bedfordshire, one of
the largest private collections of classic vehicles in Britain. The
museum’s owner, John Saunders, began collecting about 25 years ago and
decided to open his collection to the public in 1994, regularly adding
to the stock as the years rolled by.
The incredibly diverse collection eventually filled eight halls
and comprises almost 150 cars from the 1920s to the 1990s, plus
numerous other vehicles ranging from buses, fire engines and armoured
cars to gyrocopters, invalid carriages and a giant Soviet rocket
launcher! Not to mention an extremely rare Romany caravan, a replica of
Stevenson’s Rocket, a Rolls-Royce jet turbine engine and a Saunders Roe
helicopter.
“We have spent many happy years amassing the collection,” said
John’s son, Chris Saunders, “but the care and maintenance of such a
large and diverse assortment of vehicles has become increasingly onerous
and we have now decided that the time has come to move on. We have
enjoyed a close working relationship with Brightwells over the last few
years, using their services to buy and sell on a regular basis, and we
have now appointed them to handle the dispersal of the entire
collection, all to be sold at no reserve.”
A fully illustrated catalogue, for the second Stondon Sale, to include over 140 vehicles is now available on brightwells.com, with full descriptions of all the vehicles plus multiple photos of each.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been entrusted with the
task of handling the dispersal of such a large and fascinating
collection of historic vehicles and motoring ephemera,” said
Brightwells’ Managing Director, Richard Binnersley. “A huge amount of
planning and logistical organisation has gone into the preparation for
the sales and we are confident that everyone who attends will have a
marvellous time, not only being able to see such a wonderful collection
all gathered in one place, but also having the opportunity to bid on
anything that catches their imagination. As all the vehicles are being
offered at no reserve, we urge everyone to put the dates in their
diaries now – everything will be sold, no matter what, so this is your
one and only chance to grab a slice of motoring history.”
