A
1947 MG TC is one of a great selection of classic cars being sold by
Charterhouse in their classic car and automobilia auction on Sunday 2nd
November at The Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet.
“Our
auctions at the Bath & West Showground are in conjunction with the
Footman James Bristol Classic Car Shows. These shows are important dates
in car enthusiast’s diaries and always pull in a great attendance to
our sales.” Commented Matthew Whitney. “This combined with live internet
bidding at these auctions results in a large audience looking to buy
and provides spirited bidding with some fantastic hammer prices!”
After
the Second World War, American GI’s returning to their homeland who had
fallen in love with British sports cars, started to buy large numbers
of the imported MG TC’s into post war America, despite only being
produced in right hand drive. Although based on the pre-war MG TB, the
MG TC sold 10,001 cars, more than any previous MG car. Fitted with a
1250 cc engine, it recorded a 0-60 mph time of 22.7 seconds which was
considered respectable at the time.
The 1947 MG TC
going under the Charterhouse hammer originally cost £527. Today, having
previously been fully restored, it is estimated at £27,500-29,500.
Charterhouse is
now accepting entries for this auction of classic and vintage cars on
2nd November, which is closely followed by silver, jewellery, watches
and antiques with a special section of wine port & spirits on 20th
& 21st November
