A COACH FROM THE ROYAL BRITISH
MEWS OFFERED AT BONHAMS SALE
An ex-Royal British Mews Landau Coach commissioned by King
William IV and once featured in a collection described by Prince Philip,
the Duke of Edinburgh, as “the pride of North America”, is among the
highlights of Bonhams Carriage Collection sale, taking place in Oxford
on 7 March.
Painstakingly assembled by a European industrialist, the privately
owned Carriage Collection contains more than 150 lots, with some dating
back to the 17th century. Never before exhibited, the Bonhams
Sale will be the first time the collection is available for public
view, with several lots coming to auction for the first time.
Built by prestigious coachbuilders Adams & Hooper, King William
IV’s coach leads the sale with an estimate of
£200,000-300,000.Travelling Landaus were used by the nobility on
extended tours throughout Britain and Continental Europe, and it is
believed that the carriage would have been used by trusted
representatives and possibly the King himself when undertaking long
journeys.
"During the past 30 years this fascinating collection has been
lovingly maintained and painstakingly restored - and occasionally used
in international carriage competition - by their Dutch owner,” said Rob
Hubbard, Bonhams Motoring Specialist. “It’s quite rare for such a vast
single-owner collection of this quality to come to market, so it has
attracted some great international attention.”

An ex-works Alfa Romeo 6c1500/1750 Grand Sport once raced by exiled
Russian Imperial Guardsman, Boris Ivanowski, is to star in Bonhams
Grand Palais Paris auction on 5 February.
Boris Ivanowski was an officer of the Russian Imperial Guard who,
exiled in Paris after the Russian revolution, went on to make his fame
in the 1920s as a racing driver. His career excelled when he became a
works driver for the British Alfa Romeo Team ‘Stiles’, leading him to
compete in several major events including the Brooklands Double Twelve,
in which he came 8th overall and was class winner - all while driving the Alfa Romeo 6C offered in Bonhams sale.
Under British ownership for 84 years, the short-chassis Alfa is
offered with an estimate of €1,200,000-1,600,000 (£930,000-1,200,000).
Philip Kantor, Head of the Continental European Motoring
Department, said: “This is a pristine and complete Alfa Romeo of the
1930s with a glorious race history, once driven by the world’s most
famous Russian racer. Sympathetically preserved and carefully restored,
it’s rare to find such an original Alfa.”
THE 1931 ALFA ROMEO 6C 1750 4TH SERIES SUPERCHARGED GRAN SPORT SPIDER:
Previously owned by Italian F1 hero Guiseppe Campari, the 1931 Alfa
Romeo 6C 1750 4th Series Supercharged Gran Sport Spider is another Alfa
Romeo starring in the Bonhams Paris sale, estimated at
€1,800,000-2,400,000 (£1,400,000-1,800,000).

Campari had begun working for Alfa Romeo as a teenager, and by the
outbreak of WWI had established himself as a formidable competitor on
the racetrack, finishing 4th in the 1914 Targa Florio. Post-war, his
first major victory was achieved at the 1924 French Grand Prix driving
an Alfa Romeo P2, and he would go on to win the Coppa Acerbo (1927 and
1930), Mille Miglia (1928 and 1929) and the Italian Grand Prix (1930).
Tragically, after joining Maserati for the 1933 season he was killed in
an accident at that year's Italian GP.
Campari didn’t own the 6C for very long, as by the 31st December
1931 the car was registered to one Mario Vanoni of Portoferraio, Elba.
Described by Michael Frostick (Alfa Romeo Milano) as, "Among
the finest ever made both from the point of view of engineering and
driver satisfaction," the 6C is among the rarest of pre-war Alfa Romeos.

1993 Jaguar XJ220
To say this is an incredibly special Jaguar is somewhat of an
understatement. We are told by the vendor that chassis no 2207773 was
built by TWR Jaguar in Oxford in 1992/3 before being dispatched to
Denmark, Jaguar Dealer Nellemann. The car covered very little mileage in
intervening years and is now ready to come back to the UK.
Reading a mileage of 24,000km, this car is as visual striking as it
is all about power and drivability. Presented in its original colour of
Jaguar Ice Blue this car has the looks to match the impressive drive.
The car benefits from upgrades all made by XJ220 specialists Don Law of
Staffordshire, who also serviced the car, including an engine upgrade
(now 680 bhp), upgraded brakes and upgraded suspension. The end result
is a car that drives and handles far better than the day it left the TWR
factory.
Sold more than ready to go, and tested by our consignor, the car
will pass any MOT/Tüv all over the world. Only 281 of these iconic
supercars were ever built and cut an impressively exciting figure when
compared with today's standard of supercar. With prices rising don't

1991 Porsche 911 964 Turbo 3.3
This stunning 3.3 Litre 964 Turbo is an original 'C16' UK
specification right-hand drive example that was sold new in April 1991
by Parkwood Porsche, at a cost of over £75,000.
Finished in its original colour of Polar Silver with Can Can Red
leather interior, the car has been maintained meticulously since new and
the history file on this particular 964 Turbo is one of the best we
have seen. Bills and receipts totalling over £30,000 can be found in the
folder, along with a fully stamped service booklet, original wallet,
all previous V5 documents, MOT certificates, tax discs and a full
condition report from 2005 by highly respected Porsche specialist Peter
Morgan Consulting Ltd.
Overall, this 964 Turbo is an original and highly collectible
example that is ready to use and enjoy. Buyers should be aware that the
number plate shown is not included in the sale.

1996 Porsche 911 993 Cabriolet
Introduced in September 1993, the 993 variant of the marque was
notable for being Porsche's last air-cooled 911, an honour which rewards
the driver of the extremely capable 993 today.
Purchased by our vendor in 2008, this August 1996 registered car
has been carefully stored and subjected to fewer than 3,000 miles during
his custodianship. Just prior to his purchase the car reportedly
received a replacement electrically-operated canvas soft-top hood in
Blue which still looks very fresh today.
Sold with UK V5C in the name of our privateer vendor and MOT until
mid-September 2015, this handsome and desirable 993 variant of the
iconic 911 has to be one of the finest and lowest mileage examples for
sale in the UK today.
